  1. What a fun toy! Nice finish work! ...so what was next?
  2. Driving with a welded diff on dry pavement is not that big of deal once you get used to it. A welded diff could be a bit of a problem cornering on snow. An LSD would probably be the best answer for mostly road and some deep snow driving. I have never been able to find an LSD. They don't exist in JY's around here. The ones I have seen on the board here are more than I wanted to spend. I welded my diff and now, I use it on off-road only. I have it easier than most, but I can remove/install an axle in less than a minute. (whack, whack, pull, pull, Done! 32 seconds)
  3. Your not alone most of us have had to deal with it at some point Here are some ideas... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=332 I ended up putting a new body on my old Hatch. It works great now! Good Luck Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester
  4. Great Pics Jared! You "wheel" like a true Marine. Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester
  5. I'm split on this one... If a car is beyond repair then I have no problem trashing it. However if you beat it up, you can't play with it any more. :-\ If you treat the car in such a way that it will last longer and enjoy it longer and keep the repair bills down... Looking at these pics, these look in pretty bad shape to begin with. My Hatch was in way better shape when I carved it up and I still treat it with respect. ....and it still runs great.... Like I said, I'm kinda up in the air on this one...
  6. Meet Mad Max! http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=7455&cat=500&ppuser=584 Max was a clean one owner... too bad it was the Road Warrier's personal vehicle...
  7. I thought this was kinda funny. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=14374&cat=500 I started Mad Max a little too close to the garage door. Max has a habit of running a little rich when first started.:-\ BAD MAX! Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester
  8. It's a Hatch...Just not a Subaru;)
  9. You'll have more traction pulling that truck if you turn your Soob around and pull from the back.
  10. Welcome to the club! I took, to never turning my control all the way over to hot, as it would stick and feel like it was going to break something... that worked fine and I never did fix the internal problem.
  11. I can bring 650 watts to bear in the front of my SubaruHummer. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=10339&cat=500&perpage=12&sort=3&ppuser=584 4 Rectangular driving lights 100w each 2 Round driving lights 100w each 2 Turn signals 15w each 3 clearance lights 15w each Like I really need all these lights... The rectangular ones are Harbor Freight $6.99 specials. They work great!
  12. Just one more... Happened to me too! 01 Forester drivers side, cooked socket for headlamp. I cleaned it and then put some of that electrical contact grease on it. Now it's on and working!
  13. Sorry to hear of your problems but... What a great story:lol: and why did you embark on this quest in the first place? Keep us posted on your where-abouts? Good Luck, Glenn
  14. More pics...? I've never heard of the extended Brat. Seems as though you'd flatten the springs if you put any load in the back? Hummm.....
  15. Just found this... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=9752&cat=500&ppuser=12484 Got to get me one...
  16. That is Brians red Hatch. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?p=491559#post491559 He got it to replace his gold EA82 wagon. Hatches make great wheelers. Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer--formerly a Hatch! 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester
  17. I'm thinking a trip to the HomeDepot lumber dept. and you'd have that Woody Wagon back to it's original glory in no time. My Hatch had the same floor "boards". My solution was... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=11732&cat=500&perpage=12&sort=3&ppuser=584 Put a new body on it and keep going...
  18. The body would be great but Tamiya has a habit of keeping those things high priced. You'd also need all the plastic that comes with the body, glass, bumpers, decals, roll bar. Those things may or may not come as part of the body kit? However it comes with two bodys! One ABS and one Lexan--one for show and one that can take abuse and not show it? I paid $49.95 for a replacement BlackFoot body back when it was in production. Most lexan bodys are $20-30. I'd bet you'd be paying half the price of the kit just for the bodys. I still have those tires from yesteryear but, I'd bet they would run you $15-20 per axle when they start producing them again. The Brat sold for about 129.00 years ago. They are keeping the re-release prices fairly close to the old retail prices. Pay no attention to the Tamiya web site prices! Tower Hobby may do a group buy? Way Cool!
  19. It's true! http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/item.php?product-id=58384 Ok, it's an R/C version but it's still way cool! Tamiya is re-releasing the original Mud Blaster. It looks as though it is a new frame and running gear on the original Brat Body I consider this quite a complement to the Subaru enthusiasts, that Tamiya would re-engineer and re-release such an old Body style. Time to start saving my pennys:rolleyes:
  20. I've been looking for a truck like that! They all rusted away in SLC. Nice Score!
  21. Sk'o is out there in L.A. land. Rooinator is down in Yuma. Keep us updated on your travels... Good Luck:cool:
  22. http://www.subarudrive.com/fall06_attic2.htm Link!
  23. I reinforced my hanger, it was fairly simple to do. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=2384&cat=500&size=medium http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=2383&cat=500&size=medium I ran a piece of metal along the bottom edge and welded it forming an inverted "T" shape. The idea being it's almost an "I" beam without interfearing with the gas tank.
  24. Take the on-line tour, it's as good as your going to get. I wouldn't call it a museum. It seems more like a warehouse For a handfull of old Subies. Take the on-line tour.
