  1. Congrats! Your old pictures make it look nice. It's always good to get a project to the down hill side!
  2. This all sounds so hauntingly familiar:rolleyes: Your not building a Rhino are you?
  3. Slighly oversized tires shouldn't do anything to your tranny. Impreza's and Foresters are the same platform. Many a Impreza and Forester has had larger tires put on it. How big of tires were you thinking?
  4. Some times they are kinda stubborn to remove even when the bolt is removed. Even if it's not the cure, it's the first thing to try and it's definately the cheapest thing to try?
  5. Welcome to the board! Has the car had a history of smog problems? If the cat is still usable, I'd still use it, replace the pipes and put on a muffler. If you find you really do have some problems, try doing a search and see what other folks have done. The SubaruJunkie (lives near you) had a few problems getting his wagon passed the smog police a while back. He may have some insight as to getting it to pass, if it has problems. My 82 has CA emissions on it and never had a problem with smog. Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--Never a problem 84 GL Mad Max--Needed an air suction valve to pass emissions. 01 Forester--Cleaner than clean
  6. Seems to me, it would be hard to go wrong at that price. Do you need a spare car? Do you have the $ to spare? I'd say buy it if you can.
  7. Welcome to the Board! Rust, Rust and more Rust. Short of that, it's a Subaru--nothing to worry about! Ok, what I'd really look for are the expensive things to replace. I'd look for warn or noisy CV joints, a corroded exhaust system the same tires all the way around with tread, a motor that sounds good and mileage under 300,000. Good Luck, Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester
  8. Welcome to the board! I'm not an XT guy but rust would be my first concern. Good Luck, Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester
  9. So which is which? They look identical:grin: ......Way to pretentious for me!
  10. Truely a car anyone would be proud to drive! They don't make-um like that anymore. Keep good care of that little gem! Score!
  11. How can we be sure if it really has all the rust and other exciting options with out pics? You could have purchased a non-perfect wagon and are trying to deceive us by claming its perfect? We need pics!
  12. Great pics, So do you always take the doors off? Are they pinned or are you bolting and unbolting? Looks Great! Glenn
  13. What? You went through Utah and didn't stop and bum some antifreeze? You better stop next time. Did you loose my number? Good Luck next time, Sorry I didn't read this sooner. Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester
  14. What part of the hill holder is leaking? You may have a "dual diagonal" braking system depending on the year. Be careful what you seal off you may loose part of your braking system?
  15. I'll cast one vote for... If it's not broke...Don't fix it! Do the water pump and be happy. It's easy...at least on my EA81... My bolts were stiff and I broke one (Hint: always turn the right direction). Fix it and be gone...
  16. Your car is fine! Keep it that way! Stay off Dry pavement in 4WD. You might also check to make sure your tires are all inflated correctly and that they are all same size?
  17. Complete heart & lung transplant from a Forester STI Oh ya, got to get the Austrailian D/R tranny in there somewhere. A mild lift the accomidate some beefy tires. Pimp-my-ride gets to come visit Mad Max for a little facelift. Summer gets a more powerful Subie motor and custom lower gears with the drive components to back it up!
  18. Do we have to limit this to just one of the Subarus we own? I think most of us have this problem:lol:
  19. Checking the antifreeze level is not as easy as you may think. There are high points in the cooling system that allow air to get trapped. You have to "burp" your system to get all the air out. Keep monitoring it over time and it will eventually work it's way out. Don't let your overflow reservoir go dry. Keep it up to get the bubble out of the system.
  20. I have a tranny whinne but road noise is not bad? I also have a wind noise ever since my door was hit. But as for just general interior noise, I can't complain too much. If you have too much interior noise, I'd suspect tires... If your on I-15 with the concrete lanes you'll get more noise than on asphault no matter what tire you have.
  21. Your low on antifreeze. Check your antifreeze level. My 01 Forester did the same thing. I noticed it most when I first started the car. It eventually did some intermittant minor overheating. Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester L
  22. My Forester drives me NUTS! I'm constantly trying to quiet down the back end. Here is what I have found. Upper side plastic trim on the hatch squeeks--rubber insert, foam weather seal would not stay quiet. Hatch bottom trim squeeks--shimed it with thin cardboard between metal & plastic. Black switch on both sides of hatch frame knock/rattle.--jamed switch in closed position. Rear seats knock/rattle--I leave them down when not in use. This Forester is the noisiest vehicle I've owned yet!
  23. I think WHITE with MUD splashes is the only way to go! Looks good as is! The only way to improve it is to get it Dirty:brow: White, Glenn
  24. Can you make the top spinner flash RED & BLUE?
  25. Rust, rust and more rust! If your going to swap engines rust is your only major concern. Rather than list the spots that are a problem, I'd suggest lifting it up or crawling under and looking at any/all rust spots. I had 8" holes in my floor boards. Rocker panels were rotten. At the base of the front fenders rust collects. Rust along the frame rails could be a problem depending on the rust. I'd look at every inch of the underbody and make your assesment. Don't buy a Utah car! Good Luck Glenn
