  1. if the angle is different now, the U-joint could start acting up....
  2. I was also thinking the cams were installed on the wrong side... to diagnose, take the valve covers off and make sure the valves are opening/cosing in the proper sequence....
  3. I will have a Gen1 available. others on the board have asked.
  4. Rob, I sent you an email with the 3 different RX decals I have set-up already....
  5. if we were in OZ it would be the MY we generally refer to the 80-84 body style as the "ea81" style, even though they also came with the ea71 engine occasionally. so the 5 speed swap still holds true for an 80 wagon...
  6. actually, all the '80 4WD's were 1600.... mine is the fastest soob I have ! not the quickest, but I can peg the speedo at 85.
  7. I had the exact same thing happen on my Brat. it was because the snorkle I had on was restricting the airflow at high RPM's to test this, take the air cleaner off, and take it out with the carb open and see what it does. mine ran awesome, so I went and got a round chrome air filter that worked with my snorkle base. problem solved. if you run okay open, then your filter probably needs a cleanin'
  8. there's only 1 guy who commercially makes a lift for a Gen1: mudrat79 on the board.... Mark, whatcha putting it in?
  9. have a peek under the rear to see if it has a rear diff...
  10. that sounds about right.... shipping is usually about 25-35 half way across the country.
  11. there were 31 rigs total. 2 of them were soobies yeah, body damage was minimal. all the rigs were spread out in different groups. Morgan and I had our own group yes, the welded rear was awesome. and power wise, I was prefect except for a couple times where it sputtered because I had the snorkel on, and I couldn't get enough air, but it didn't die, and I still had enough power to get to the top. the steps area (three stage) has 4 risers. from the bottom, they are 27 deg, 25 deg, 30 deg, 27 deg. I forgot to turn my fans off the first time through one of the bigger mud holes, and I blew a fuse. replaced it and off we went... spent $19.50 at the power car wash getting all the mud off
  12. Pics thread.... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=22414
  13. the pics thread is in the GEneral Discussion Forum......
  14. MorganM came down for the TImber Ridge Trail Ride. 31 rigs. 2 subarus. it was awesome. my weber performed great. plenty of power, and the welded rear was great. no breakage, but a little bit 'o body damage. pics are here. click on thumbnails for larger versions... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/offroad/castana/Castana.html
  15. okay.... 504 - have only seen steel wheels in 14". they take the special nuts with centering washers (washers are oval shaped, and wedge into the groove between the center and the side as seen in the pic on the wheels page) 604 - these is the "limo" type Peugeot. have never seen one, but know they also used the 4 x 140mm pattern. 505 - most commonly found. 14" & 15" Steels, can use the soobie nuts without any problems. 14" Alloys, have seen these with both style of lug nuts pictured on the wheels page (steel and alloys types) the nuts have a more rounded bottom. regular soob nuts may work with these. 15" Alloys, need the type of nuts that have a wide rounded base, instead of the standard V acorn style. (see the pic on the wheels page) Some "Tuner" lug nuts can and will work. all pug lug nuts are the same size/pitch as the soob ones 12 x 1.25

  19. 1980 GL 4x4 wagon w/1600 (EA71): speedo pegs at 85. had it pegged, and could have done more. it's faster than my 2 ea81's, but those are both lifted with bigger tires and/or heavier....
  20. strap it to the top gives it character... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/offroad/august2002/PDC_0151.JPG http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/offroad/august2002/PDC_0182.JPG http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/offroad/august2002/PDC_0145.JPG
  21. yes, he did have to do some re-inforcing inside the body cavities....
  22. you may want to crank the torsion bar up all the way, or adjust it up a notch. will let it carry a better load...... I'm thinking with an ATV up there, it would sag pretty good....
  23. yeah, he's a member here... Mike_W I think. doesn't come around too often, but stops in now and then.
