  1. I am not sure of the igntion black box without seeing the manual, but usually they are signal amplifiers. How exactly did you "test" the alt. Bench testing isnt worth the time it takes to remove a fanbelt.
  2. Under powered under braked and not made for it. I would not do it to a old small car i really liked.
  3. How many miles on this. Have you looked for a vacume leak, eiyher a line valve, or maybe a shaft through the carb?
  4. There is one huge cat right under the exhaust manifold, that is the only cat. What you may have cut off was the resonator. There is really no replacement exhausts system for this car (do NOT beleive what they advertise as OE replacements). The system has to be fabricated and the rear muffle pipes are weak. How did you "rebuild" the carb. Without a rebuild kit all you did was cleab up the carb. I havent heard of these ever clogging up so i doubt it is the cat. The engine revs freely so it is not the cat. Did you flush out the fuel system by draining the tank, adding good fuel, and runnning the pump and driuaing it at the carb feed line? Have you heard of Dusty's Justy's ? the site does have quite a few diagrams. Also there is the Justy proboard. a little justy community.
  5. It depends. I would do a tranny fluid change, or at least a drain and fill. How does the car feel in a tight circle, with the circle gradually gettinf bigger. YOu will wipe out the AWD clutches, but on a 97 they probably need repplacing anyway.

Give me your email and i will ask why you cant post or anything.

  6. I had this and I had to get a rebuilt carb. The float was stuck. Mine sat for 3-4 years. Between the (vile) old gas and other stuff, it had to be rebuilt. I have a source if needed.
  7. see if thereis a OEM kit. You have to replace the spark plug bucket seals at the same time and they must be form subaru as aftermarket leak.
  8. Well i was right With all the data base errors i just been reading the lead posts since only God knows when it will go poof on me
  9. Mine only gets 15 INhg on the vac gauge, so it needs to have the TB changed. I may farm that out as it is an easy job. The car sat too long I will wait someone else fight it.
  10. FYI Headgasket sealant is completly useless, unless your the MFG and find people who want to beleive it solves the invetable.
  11. This is what happend to Blu before a rather impressive and spectacular rod failure. nipper
  12. Flush the cooling system completly. There is way too much oil there for a blown HG. I think someone put oil in the coolant. nipper
  13. I'm not a big fan as cutting/resurfacing subaru flywheels. Make sure you replace the throwout bearing clips.
  14. Lets see... NEVER EVER EVER go to a Midas for anything ...same for a chain transmission shop of any kind. 10,000 miles on brakes can be your driving habits, where you live, stuck or sticking calipers, collased brake line. A sticking barke rotor can make this noise. everything on that front end flexes a tiny bit in turns (really tiny) or else things would break. Making a turn can be enough flex to make something make noise. Is there a ally or parking garage you can drive in to hear if there is any noise at other times that you can not hear. When you drove in a circle was there any grabing in the drivetrain.
  15. If I ever EVER talk about putting central locking in a small car ever again chop my hands off.....
  16. Maybe Keep an eye on your coolant level for a while, otherwise... Thats just condensation in the exhaust system burnig off. Depending upon the driving condtions humidity alignment of the planets and the gnome population in your area, it may happen.

    Details please
  18. Faulting an engine for blowing a head gasket after 150K is sort of silly. The more mialege a car gets on *the more thermal cycles and possibly unheard pinging) the more possible it is to blow a head gasket. It is akin to saying at the funeral of a 95 yo man that he died because he did not take care of himself. if you buy a used engine, you should reseal it, including replacing the head gaskets. you never know what you are getting with a used engine, so may as well do it all while it is out of the car. And you are correct. If a sooby engine overheats and the oil is not changed while the cause is fixed it does increase the likelyhood of thrown rod. Also extended oil change intervals do not help either. The older the used car, the more likely it is that you will have put money in it in the first year fro maint and hidden repairs.
  19. Has mike responded?

  20. Front diffs whine. Tis may the begings of wheel bearing failure, allowing just enough play to rub something or sideload the bearing. Jack up that tired and check for play. SPin the tire and listen for grinding noise
