  1. I had this and I had to get a rebuilt carb. The float was stuck. Mine sat for 3-4 years. Between the (vile) old gas and other stuff, it had to be rebuilt. I have a source if needed.
  2. see if thereis a OEM kit. You have to replace the spark plug bucket seals at the same time and they must be form subaru as aftermarket leak.
  3. Accident? One of those minor details people tend to leave out
  4. Well i was right With all the data base errors i just been reading the lead posts since only God knows when it will go poof on me
  5. Mine only gets 15 INhg on the vac gauge, so it needs to have the TB changed. I may farm that out as it is an easy job. The car sat too long I will wait someone else fight it.
  6. FYI Headgasket sealant is completly useless, unless your the MFG and find people who want to beleive it solves the invetable.
  7. This is what happend to Blu before a rather impressive and spectacular rod failure. nipper
  8. Flush the cooling system completly. There is way too much oil there for a blown HG. I think someone put oil in the coolant. nipper
  9. Just in case: http://www.driveshaftspecialist.com/
  10. I'm not a big fan as cutting/resurfacing subaru flywheels. Make sure you replace the throwout bearing clips.
  11. Lets see... NEVER EVER EVER go to a Midas for anything ...same for a chain transmission shop of any kind. 10,000 miles on brakes can be your driving habits, where you live, stuck or sticking calipers, collased brake line. A sticking barke rotor can make this noise. everything on that front end flexes a tiny bit in turns (really tiny) or else things would break. Making a turn can be enough flex to make something make noise. Is there a ally or parking garage you can drive in to hear if there is any noise at other times that you can not hear. When you drove in a circle was there any grabing in the drivetrain.
  12. If I ever EVER talk about putting central locking in a small car ever again chop my hands off.....
  13. Maybe Keep an eye on your coolant level for a while, otherwise... Thats just condensation in the exhaust system burnig off. Depending upon the driving condtions humidity alignment of the planets and the gnome population in your area, it may happen.

    Details please
  15. Faulting an engine for blowing a head gasket after 150K is sort of silly. The more mialege a car gets on *the more thermal cycles and possibly unheard pinging) the more possible it is to blow a head gasket. It is akin to saying at the funeral of a 95 yo man that he died because he did not take care of himself. if you buy a used engine, you should reseal it, including replacing the head gaskets. you never know what you are getting with a used engine, so may as well do it all while it is out of the car. And you are correct. If a sooby engine overheats and the oil is not changed while the cause is fixed it does increase the likelyhood of thrown rod. Also extended oil change intervals do not help either. The older the used car, the more likely it is that you will have put money in it in the first year fro maint and hidden repairs.
  16. Front diffs whine. Tis may the begings of wheel bearing failure, allowing just enough play to rub something or sideload the bearing. Jack up that tired and check for play. SPin the tire and listen for grinding noise
  17. I think dodge Neons along with quite a few others are far more effecient at overheating then subarus are. You NEVER keep driving in an overheat unless you are in a dangerous place to pull over, then you keep going. A car is cheaper then a human...though i know a few who may not be worth that much
  18. NO. I know quite a few 2.5 that are just running fine with the original HG thank you. you do not pverheat aluminum engines as a rule. you may get away with it once, but if you cook the engine you will warp the heads and cook the oil. Running low on oil on modern engines is a bad idea as they do not have large pans anymore. SUbarus tend to get very unhappy if down more then 1 qt and even 1 qt is pushing it. nipper
  19. Check your brakes again, it could be a rubbing backing plate. Spray rubber parts with wd 40 and see if the noise goes away to rule out bushings.
  20. Really need to get him finished the next two weeks Check list Finish power door locks Finish alarm (yes an insurance break and operates doors) finish cruise control (low priority) May do timing belt myself, may be more effecient to farm it out then set the carb and timing Have an exhaust system built Tires Low priority Fuel sender, it works but full is 1/4 of tank Roof paint Window Tint (no ac) Would LOVE a subaru weatherband cd player, just watching ebay for it. He is getting close, better be with 4.15 gas.
