  1. Try www.cars101.com. The only thing I would recomend doing after sitting for a year is chainging the oil, tranny and coolant and closely inspect the tires. As much as i love a deal, times are a little hard, so dont beat her down too much
  2. Yes the two pullies are differnt from each other. http://endwrench.com/images/pdfs/TBeltEWWin05.pdf try that one. It shows the timing mark on the solid pulley.
  3. That was wht came to my mind too. Someone tried to reuse the HGs nipper
  4. Are you sure they are plastic? They are usually a metal alloy that breaks easily (On purpose)
  5. Go with a used rack, they arent that hard to replace and they dont have a high failure rate. nipper
  6. "I looked down at the gauge and it was on hot" thats always a good one. What caused them to look at the gauge, usually the answer is "the car was runing funny". Thats like cooking using the smoke alarm and wondering why the steak is tough. nipper
  7. Have you checked to make sure the ECU is grounding out the coils (thats part of how they make spark) and work backwards from there. Are the coils getting power? Is the ignitor good? I would look at the ignitor next. nipper
  8. http://www.dieselnet.com/standards/us/ld_t2.php Diesel had has issues meeting NOx and particulate, thats why they have been off the market for a while. They are sloly coming back thanks to things like computer controls, new catalysts, pee (yes pee ) and direct injection. And if you are really bored http://www.osti.gov/bridge/purl.cover.jsp;jsessionid=C1E1DB4869827A97AB1D653A1C263589?purl=/829815-D2pRKp/native/ click on the view documnet. nipper
  9. rear just checks the effeciency of the Cat, nothing else. Gas smell can be the evao smell can be the source of the gas, or, a leaky FI hose. You should look into that a bit more. POOF can ruin ones day. nipper
  10. "still having problems" refresh our memories. How many miles? How old is the timing belt? Yes plugs should be replaced if old. What is it doing ? Is there spark? Check the engine temp sensor.
  11. Almost any transplant from one mfg to another requires having an adapter plade made. The Rotary would be a neat fit. But rotarys are oil burners and pigs when it comes to fuel. What is redline on a rotary, that would be my one concern, if the tranny (that is elderly) can deal with that high an RPM. nipper
  12. I never worked on an EA engine, so ill plead ignorance, but could have the heads being on the wrong side of the engine had anything to do with it? I cant tell if it was overtorqued since I wasnt the one to take it apart, but could you tell, or was it a case that since you werent looking for it you didnt notice. nipper
  13. That hesitation may be a dosftware glitch or growing pains in the drive-by-wire. CTS doesnt make the gas pedal. SUbaru tends to cheap out on material waulity, not on the mechainicals or driver interfaces (fancy speak for switches and pedals). Talk to a dealer to see if there has been a software upgrade for the ECU/TCU. nipper
  14. Ok this has me concerned. This is coming up a lot lately on the outback list as well. There have been a couple of fixes: 1- Check to make sure the doors in the HVAC system are all working. If it is actually moving air through the passenger side footwell the door is working. 2-flush the heater core. Flush it repeatedly. No need to flush the entire cooling system. 3- the nuclear option - the heater core is clogged and needs to be replaced. nipper
  15. It sort of makes sense. The O2 snesor is the nose so to speak for the ECU, so it knows what it is smelling. It is interesting data. Cars run fairly clean if well maintaned, the O2 sensor just dials things in. nipper
  16. OBDII code readers only read OBDII codes. They do not read transmission, airbag, or ABS codes. There is a procedure to pull the codes, but if the light wasnt there before the wheel bearing, i would inspect the tone ring for a crack and the wheel speed sensor. nipper
  17. The car hadnt been driven enough since the CEL reset. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=99980
