You may be one of the rare ones that have a bad thermistor (level light sensor) This is easy to dig into. Another possability is a bent fuel sender assembly. All this good stuff is easily accessed by the passenger side cover behind the rear seat in the floor. There is another sender on the drivers side, but it doesnt have a light. nipper

damndamndamn i can't drive a stick anymore (yet) due to the car accident. Otherwise this would be such a tempting thing to look deeper into. nipper

I've been watching this thread, and the site isnt that helpful, or i am not seeing what i want to see. So excuse the dumb questions (yes i do make them on occasion) What can this box be used on (transmissions years etc). This box basically is a far more agressive, controlable, and basically a plug in device? nipper

Exc pet for when you loose a belt, the water pump starts leaking, your low on coolant, the thermostat gets stuck open or closed. That reasoning doesnt fly. It is totally necessary as catching a 100.00 failure can save you from a 7000.00 engine replacement. It is just foolish to think nothing ever breaks, thats how you get into far more danger then taking measures to monitor conditions and stop them before they happen. nipper

2000 is a phase II. At that high a mileage, I would go for a (much) lower mileage engine. The engine may have good compression, but ... When you do the HG, you will be resurfacing the heads. this may increase compression, and add stress to the old rings. Its like giving a 90yo man a 22yo nympho girlfreind. He may enjoy it, but you just know something is going to have give. Usually what happens is the rings have a problem dealing with the new tighter heads, and you will develop blowby. BTW your compression is about 15-20psi too high, which is a bad thing. On a new engine I would expect 180-190 MAX. You have something else going on too. nipper

Lazy O2 snesors wont always throw codes, they are working just slow to respond. Loose plugs, you are so lucky they were caught. usually a loose plug sint found untill a loud PING followed by a loss of power is discovered. The plugs come flying out and take the threads with them. It is rare but it happens from time to time. nipper

Autos dont really need a low range, that is what the torque converter is for (though its nice to have). nipper

A 1998 anything has a increased chance of having a bad HG. Interestingly it is also more likely to have a replaced HG then any other 98 on the road. Pay close attention to the color of the coolant in the overflow tank, looking for debree or oil residue. TB really is just mileage (over 200,000 things dont last for ever) or unknowledgable owners. Look for mismtached tires, burnt tranny fluid (on autos). Take it for a test drive, drive in tight circles. The car should be able to make the circle with little or no gas. If it has TB it will be very obvious. A slight lurch initially when makeing the tight turn is normal (as the computer sorts everything out). This is common for most real AWD vehicals. nipper
