  1. Wrong Brooklyn
  2. I've driven earlier CVT's. Since the engine wasnt well isolated from the car, the drone of the engine would drive you batty. Since thne, its been relaized that the engine has to be really isolated fomr the car to keep the driver from going nuts. Thats why subaru has a new engine subframe. nipper

  4. I've heard nightmares about CA emission inspection. To be that pickey is just insane, stupid, and a few other choice words. nipper
  5. Well i told my partner i was not thrilled with diriving 8 hrs for a brunch. So we can still keep our fingers crossed. When Blu goes in for inspection in Aug (while he is distracted) I may take a 2010 for a test drive. I just hope I can get that new car smell off me.
  6. There are several style of CVT's, subarus is the first to use a chain. As an engineer i find it fascinating, but I also wonder about wear, since chains, well, do wear out. I also noticed in the cut-aways there is a cansiter type filter in the transmission. If I had the money I would go make a deal on a 2009, but they can be had for a song right now. nipper
  7. I've been thinking actually, by the time i get to buying a sparkly new subaru, a Imp may be the same size as my outback nipper
  8. Thats such a false comparison. Your "old ones" do not hvae to deal with 2010 crash standards (including the new roof standards), nor meet the same consumer demands that there are today. nipper
  9. Neither do I, and the new outback is actually shorter then the old outback. nipper
  10. I am not sure if i am reading this correctly, but if your using a sooby LSD, it is not a clutch type, it is a viscous coupling. nipper
  11. You need to put the pump back in and use a pressure gauge. What was the initial prblm that got you to the fuel pump? nipper
  12. Get your car the hell out of there. General rule of thumb, If you were not complaing about a leak, it wasnt affecting performance, there is no rush or need to do anything. That wet spot could have been there for many many miles. I would just monitor the leak as it may be such a slow leak there is no reason to touch it. The tranny pans whenever they are removed, if not done right, can leak far worse then the original leak ever was. Try tightening the valve covers first, as they can work loose over time and cause leaks. Do the valve covers yourself. You may want to do plugs at the same time. For the vavle covers use subaru parts and bucket gromits. nipper
  13. Join this group http://groups.yahoo.com/group/subaruvanagon In the files section they have many many work arounds for the VSS. nipper
  14. MAke sure its a OBDII-CAN ready, otherwise its can only be used on pre 2007 cars. If you just want one for that purpose, they should be some good cheap ones out there since they are outdated. nipper
  15. Even though normal practice recomends resurfacing the heads to get the proper sealing finish on them? nipper
  16. How many miles? Check the obvious things first, like loose vacume lines. Does it idle at all? The exhaust sound like rotten eggs? How old is the timing belt? When was the last tune-up? nipper
  17. COuld be an exhaust manifold leak, can also be the front sensor. The easiest thing to do is check the electrical connections at the sensors to make sure they are tight. Unplug them then plug them back in. Make sure nothing is broken. I lost a rear o2 sensor to road debree, so it happens. nipper
  18. Remove the access panel, then below it is the tank. Don't loose the very itsybitsy bolts. You need to wiggle the passenger side out and rotate it 90 debrees to get it out. Its not fragile, but be nice to it. and no nipper
  19. Is it possible that your gastank is getting pressurized, and the only place for the gas to go is out the canister? If this is so (and I think it is) this is a dangerous thing. Check your vacume line routing. I dont know this year well enough to know the vac diagram off hand. nipper
  20. It's where I get all my parts that arent needed ASAP. nipper
