  1. soory my mind goes between legacys and loyalesmodels in those years. Still there should be no spark leakage at the coil towers even with the wires removed, cap or no cap., especially on a waste spark system, since two plugs fire together. The voltage will find the path of least resistance, and if it is finfing the coil tower the easiest path, that indicates a hairline crack. Put the wires on with the car running and wet the coils and wires. There should be no sparking. best done in the early evening. nipper
  2. Actually there should be no arcing at the cap if the wires are fully away from the cap. You need a new cap and rotor, you cant tell just by looking at them sometimes that they are good. If you dont replace it and still have issues, its, well, your doing 1/2 a tuneup. Youll just be chasing your tail. nipper
  3. Which ring ? and dont say the one with the timing marks Where is it on the engine? The only things i can think of, well, that has to be one hell of a dent in the front end. nipper
  4. 120 PSI is low. You need to do a wet and dry compression test. The numbers being even at least makes me think the timing is OK. You wont really have any CEL codes unless the engine runs. CHeck the engine temp sensor Check the Crank Position Sensor Check the Cam Position Sensor nipper
  5. thats a hard one, as you can either have a cable or en electronic spedo. 1995 is when they switched. Look under the hood, at the firewall around the master cylinder. You will see one cable, for the gas pedal. Do you see a second cable that loops down to the transmission? Do you have any CEL lights? nipper
  6. If it wont hold water, the velve stem or valve face is bent, most likely the stem. Either way you need to replace the valve. Damage can be from nothing to looking like a bent mushroom. nipper
  7. welcome. we cant tell you a thing without knowing year, model, mileage transmiision and if it is 2wd or 4wd. nipper
  8. Is it possible that it is in two gears at the same time? It does happen rarely on soobies, but it happens. nipper
  9. Got o self service car wash and do the same thing. Also check to makeure the drain hoses are not loose on the sunroof drains.
  10. HI, i did not even know this feature existed.

Describe for me a bit better the slipping out of gear. Does it feel like it popped into neutral or like a slipping clutch?

  11. Right now its a maybe for me, i will know as we get closer. nipper
  12. Even if it is your time, your time is still valuble, so get OE parts and do it once, right, the first time. It still amazes me how people want to cheap out (I can understand if they have no choice) when the OE parts were trouble free for 106,000 miles. Those parts work hard, and are key to the engines survival. its possibel that 80.00 in savings can sot you a replacement engine. Just go OE and have peace of mind (and dont forget to do the cam seals, main seal, waterpump and re-seal the oil pump). nipper
  13. Never replace just one strut, at the very least you do them in pairs. Replacing just one can make for very bizzare handling (that goes for any car). You car is old enough that you will need four of them. You can usually get a great price on KYB GR-2 struts if you search the net. nipper
  14. And there are people who barely made it past 106,000 miles before they bent valves. Its not worth the hassel to risk the expense (and as far as i am concerned stupidity to let it go). Considering OE parts last 106,000 miles trouble free, i always go with OE. Bearings themselves all come from the same source, as they really are not worht the effort to counterfit or make poorly (even for China). However for the belt, that should really be from OE or a known supllier. That belt just works too hard to be anything less. nipper
  15. Wasnt there also something about using too much sealant someplace causing a cam bearing to become oil starved?
  16. Just go buy a new thermostat. replace the radiator cap and make sure the cooling fans arent on all the time. Check your ignition timing and the EGR valve operation, otherwise it is what it is. If you want you can buy a cheap gauge and wire it in just to test the cooling system. You can also stick a meat thermometer in the rad filler neck and wait for the thermostat to open up and read the temp. Check your altenator output too. If it is putting out too much voltage it can make the gauge read off. nipper
  17. They are finding 20 plus yearold air bags still work, so dont worry about it. nipper
  18. you need to check the oil pup specs. You use a feeler gauge to check the specs. if it is in spec it is in good condition. nipper
  19. At 167,000 miles do a compression test, wet and dry first. Yes one of the cylinders may fail, even two. What you want to see is the other bank of cylinders. If the numbers are good thej you are good to go on a HG job. if the numbers are low then you may want to thik about a used engine. nipper
