  1. No it was never designed for a dist. nipper

  3. in this case its not the engines fault. good luck. The only way to tell whats going on is to throw a timing belt on it and do a compression teste and pray. nipper
  4. Well for me, when i go to shoot film, garmin just doesnt cut it. i have to use Microsoft streets with GPS. nipper
  5. Not to mention that is force directly applied to 50-100 lbs worth of mass, plus the viscocity of the rear diff lube. Its not the same as having a 200 lb passenger in the car. My guess would be 3-4 mpg improvement, but like i said get a honda. If your not using the RWD part, then there is no reason for all the extra supporting structure in the body either. nipper
  6. Have you replaced the pcv valve recently? Also if you can get a pair of calipers on there, check to make sure that there is not a groove worn in the shaft where the seal sits. It happens sometimes and requires technique to get it right. Where are you getting the seals from? nipper
  7. Yes and no, it can be functioning fine technically, but be cracked or loose in its bas and give a false reading. If you have a code for a knock sensor, it is almost always a bad knock sensor. It is possible to have a bad one without a code. nipper PS next time you get that low remove the gas cap or loosen it and see if it goes away
  8. It will be like water and oil, they will seperate in a bottle, and you will see two layers. Are you sure its not your knock sensor? nipper
  9. That would be a new one on me, but anything is possible. Like i said, hope for the best. Does the car crank? (do not go out and crank it to find out without checking the voltage first). if no voltage, it may be what he said, if full voltage, wait for the mechanic. nipper

  11. AH my mistake, its a 2.5. i sort of wished it was a 2.2. I bet a timing belt component failed. its actually 106,000 miles or 106 months. The idlers dont like going to the second belt change. nipper
  12. There was something about a UGLY subaru cross over maybe hitting the market, and they said that subaru was dropping the 6 cylinder, but upping the power of the 4. I cant find it now nipper
  13. it was supposed to be done at every 60K. I don't know what help I cam provide right now, but it sounds like you snapped the timing belt. Do not crank the engine to try to start it, as you may may hurt things. Good luck. nipper
  14. Are you asking about what do you pack for a raod trip, or what you pack in the emergency kit? They are two different subjects. In my emergency kit (And kits differ upon where you live) Flares Real size spare tire. (i use the subaru jack) Wheel Chock Two hand crank flashlights AAA Card X type lug nut wrench Cell Phone charger What we call an "equilizer" (long heavy pipe or large wrench) Spare bulbs 1 spare headlight First Aid Kit Tow Strap Jumper Cables Pliers Screwdrivers analog multi meter. Now on a road trip what i carry is much more extensive.
  15. Man this does not sound good. An accessory belt failing will light up the dash board like a christmass tree, but wont stall the car (unless you were not paying attention). What WILL stall the car is a failed timing belt, tension, or idler. You may have a very hideous problem here, hidden by the timing belt covers. A subaru engine will run without the accessory drive belts, it wont run if there is timing belt failure (or related componenet). Which leads to the next question, when was the last time the belt was changed. nipper
  16. I'm not sure what your asking, but the folowing parts take the beating: Piston Rings Connecting rod Engine block or Cylinder head depending upon where the hole is. The engine is scrap, once you put a hole in it. nipper
  17. But you have mechanical skills, i am assuming that the poster knows nothing of how AC works. i may be wrong... nipper
  18. i am interested in this tool, and not some stupid ebay kit that is made from black pipe. nipper
  19. Many many many many times. You want better gas mileage, get a honda. (odd how we always suggest a honda). nipper
  20. Some things really need to be done by a professional, and this is one of them. You can waste a lot of time trying to chase down things you dont understand, and make things worse. AC is not like radiator fluid, it needs to be diagnosed before you just throw a can of coolant in it. That requires a gauge set at the very least. The gauges on the cans are usless and should never be used. Before those dump gauges the cans would be weighed to know when they are empty. You may have a leak and have lost far more refrigerant then you realize, then your just throwing good money after bad without fixing the leak. nipper
