no it wont, as your not going to do it 10 times in a row. Try to take off and see what happens. No matter what you do the car should stall if the clutch is good. This test can be done in any high gear, but third and 4th are the most realistic. Also check under the hood and look at the levle of fluid in your clutch cylinder. You will have two resivoirs, one is the brake and one closest to the drivers side of the car is the clutch. The clutch resivoir is the smaller one. nipper

WOrn clutch test is trying to start from a dead stop in 3rd or 4th gear. if you can do it the clucth is on its way out. if you can't the clutch is fine. First gear isnt a true test since its minimal load. Also since she is moving when it happens she wont smell the clutch, for the same reason you dont smell oil dripping on the exhaust manifold when the car is moving. nipper

We will be more then happy to teach. You do know its important to make sure all 4 tires are wearing equally and properly inflated? nipper

i figured you werent a car person. I assumed it was an automatic. Sounds like a clutch. The flairing is the clutch slipping, it will slowly get worse. When you had the timing belt fixed do you remeber what else was done. If they didnt do all the seals at that time, it sounds like you are going to need to have them done in the future some time. Hi you have a 2.5L 4 cylinder double over head cam engine. How many miles are on this car and when was the last time it had a timing belt change. When the car is accelerating, it feels like it is going into neutral between shifts? First thing to do is check the fluid levels in the oil and the tranny fluid. Tranny fluid is done with the car warm and running. The shifter should be moved through all the gears before you check the fluid. It should also be read and not brown. let me know what you find and i can help you from there. nipper

This is coming up more and more (more then head gaskets and torque bind). I would say do asearch, instead ill just tell you to replace the front o2 sensor. Even if it is the cat (99% its not) you most likely have elderly o2 sensors that need a change anyway. Cheaper to replace the sensors then to replace the cat and find out it was the sensor. nipper

I think your looking in the wrong place. You may think its the tranny, but its the engine when its under load at idle. There really isnt anything in the tranny spinning when the car is stopped in drive, as opposed to being in neutral. in fact there are a few more things spinning in neutral. In drive with the car stoped you have the torque converter and the front pump moving. COuld be the transmission mount, but i think its someplace else. When was the last time this car had a plugs wires done. nipper

It can be the bearing in the fan motor is going, causing the motor to use a lot of current to spin the fan, and not doing a good job at it. I had one go on 87 GL drove me nuts til one day i noticed all the slop in the bearing. nipper -
Generally with TB you first make sure the tires match (and are properly inflated), next you do a tranny flush, Then you try the fuse thing. AFter all that you go to the dealer to let them look at it. you dont immediatly go to the dealer. There are a few modes of failure, which lead to a rebuild. Not all of them blow the seals. (mine was just age). nipper

if its a manual you can slowly apply the ebrake. if its a automatic you can slowly apply the service break. If its a manual and your really stuck, you can apply the service brake (or grow a third foot) VW (beetle based) bajas beetles (and dune buggy)had a directional ebrake, where you could apply just one brake for the same reason. nipper

if you think i am going to research the 1000's of differnt cars on the road your nuts. Automatics i am fairly sure you cant do it unless the car is in park. Manuals on the other hand, i can see you doing it. Also dont forget, if the key is worn in a panic its possible for the key to fall out when switched to the "key release" or "locked" position (ever see how many keys are on some peoples key rings? then you get a locked wheel. Also does anyone want to be responsible for a malfunctioning interlock and having the steering wheel lock if wrong? i know i dont. There is also another option, which is hard on the engine. Pop the car into neutral, stop it quickly and safely, then shut it off. The operator just has to be warned the engine is going to scream, but better a bent rod then a bent human. nipper

Subaru is not the only car that people drive. This is not a safe thing. When you describing emergency procedures they should be as one-siaze-fits-all as possible. Any car can have a stuck pedal. turning the key farther then off in a subaru may lock a wheel in 1984 ford escort. So no some of us dont need our engineering skills updated. nipper
