Convertable anyone ...
nipper replied to nipper's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXi saw that mistake in a prewss kit about the BRZ, as that isnt the first subaru convertable either. They have some awfully hideous convertables. They may have taken some inspiration from Top Gear

How exactly does the LSD work?
nipper replied to springer-'s topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYou cant really swap from a Viscous coupling to a clutch type as there isnt enough room there I think. Clutch type LSD rock, but they are heavy and with small engines can be a power robber. Viscous couplings work by having plates with multiple holes and are filled with silicon. Silicon is a funny fluid as when it heats up it gets thicker and acts like a clutch. It is lighter ans simplier then a clutch type, but does have a delayed reaction time, which is not always a bad thing. The reaction time is set by the plates and holes in the plates. As soon as everything catches up to speed the fluid cools off and flows again. There is a mechanical diff that can be swapped in (housing and all) but it is a very rare find.

'00 lego auto trans, unneeded downshifting, flashing AT Temp light
nipper replied to johnceggleston's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXDid it flare at all or just shift up and down. Usually when a transmission is dying you will loose the upper gears first. The TCU may have dropped it a gear because something failed, or s solenoid got stuck. Hard to tell without it happening again. You have the delated shift again? TransX will fix it, but if it is beyond daving (bad seal) even TransX wont help.

Putnam Trailer Hitches
nipper replied to nipper's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXOK its in, fairly easy except for one minor detail. If anyone orders this, before you start just make sure all the washers fit the bolts supplied. Mine did not (74 cent fix) but can be annoying if you don't have them lying around or another car to make the parts run

Clutch job- remove engine or tranny?!?
nipper replied to aartod's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXNot to mention the required knowledge of swear word in foreign tounges. Yes you can do it quickly if you have done it more then twice on your own car where all the bolts and rust are broken.

HELP PLEASE!
nipper replied to gothiccowboy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThose plugs are fairly standard parts as far as sizes. If you measure the diameter of one you can usually find them on line or from a speed shop. I can't imagine Subaru using many different sizes.

EGR or Not, emission canister or not, other things too
really the first question should be, what does your state inspection require be on the car. Stripping things off can fail you. No reason to strip off the EVAP stuff if it works, as it robs no power. PCV have been around since the 60's leave it be. Early EGR valves had some effect on performance, but it was debatable how much since those engines were chocked by many things. Newer EGR valves actually improve performance of the engine (keep in mind performance means the operations of the engine and not necassarily HP or torque) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exhaust_gas_recirculation

Hybrid?! Didn't think Subaru would ever do it but here's a concept car.
nipper replied to ShawnW's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXGullwing doors rarely make it to production, they are best on show cars to show the interior of the car. I wouldnt worry about the doors. These things will ruin my record of never buying a subaru that hasnt been broken in (120K or more). I dont think I would trust hybrid with that mileage.

'Juddering' while turning; new steering rack installed.
nipper replied to 211's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXTB test. Go to a parking lot. Drive the car in as tight a circle as you can. With almost no throttle the car should be able to do this with no learching or jerking, and the steering wheel not fighting you. Under the hood will be a small fuse holder pass side by firewall. It should be empty. Place a fuse in there and see if the issue goes away. The FWD lamp should light on the dashboard. How to fix? 1st try a full tranny flush. If not a new awd clutch pack is in order.

NPR versus OEM Piston Rings?
nipper replied to donbarnes's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXNational Public Radio makes piston rings, who knew? Anyway ... They get great reviews on other forums. I found out that they Are Nippon Piston Rings. Nippon is OE for many Japanese engines so they should be just as good as OE
