  1. i saw that mistake in a prewss kit about the BRZ, as that isnt the first subaru convertable either. They have some awfully hideous convertables. They may have taken some inspiration from Top Gear
  2. and no its not that convertable http://newportconvertible.com/subaru-sti-convertible/
  3. You cant really swap from a Viscous coupling to a clutch type as there isnt enough room there I think. Clutch type LSD rock, but they are heavy and with small engines can be a power robber. Viscous couplings work by having plates with multiple holes and are filled with silicon. Silicon is a funny fluid as when it heats up it gets thicker and acts like a clutch. It is lighter ans simplier then a clutch type, but does have a delayed reaction time, which is not always a bad thing. The reaction time is set by the plates and holes in the plates. As soon as everything catches up to speed the fluid cools off and flows again. There is a mechanical diff that can be swapped in (housing and all) but it is a very rare find.
  4. Did it flare at all or just shift up and down. Usually when a transmission is dying you will loose the upper gears first. The TCU may have dropped it a gear because something failed, or s solenoid got stuck. Hard to tell without it happening again. You have the delated shift again? TransX will fix it, but if it is beyond daving (bad seal) even TransX wont help.
  5. OK its in, fairly easy except for one minor detail. If anyone orders this, before you start just make sure all the washers fit the bolts supplied. Mine did not (74 cent fix) but can be annoying if you don't have them lying around or another car to make the parts run
  6. Not to mention the required knowledge of swear word in foreign tounges. Yes you can do it quickly if you have done it more then twice on your own car where all the bolts and rust are broken.
  7. http://owensclassicinternational.com/ph48107.html sorry about the link
  8. lots have happened since the last run/gathering... some of us lost so much during last years storm, then the holidays were kinda blah, then the winter came... and oh boy it was cold... so its time to lift our mood a bit and get together for a nice day out in the woods... i realize its a bit too early for this post but it will give us time to prepare.... so here it is: Saturday, April 13th 2013 meeting at 1030 am at the Atsion rangers station.... on rt 206 just south of rt 70 circle. Directions here most of us that are going know eachothers phone numbers... newbies please PM me for number exchange remember this is a "at your own risk run", use common sense and dont abuse your car bring a shovel... tow rope... lunch and beverages as we usually stop in the woods for a picnic
  9. I received the hitch in three days by fed ex! It is built like a tank. All for 78.00 . I made an earlier post that it wouldnt work, but I was wrong, I thought the receiver was welded but I was mistaken
  10. Those plugs are fairly standard parts as far as sizes. If you measure the diameter of one you can usually find them on line or from a speed shop. I can't imagine Subaru using many different sizes.
  11. really the first question should be, what does your state inspection require be on the car. Stripping things off can fail you. No reason to strip off the EVAP stuff if it works, as it robs no power. PCV have been around since the 60's leave it be. Early EGR valves had some effect on performance, but it was debatable how much since those engines were chocked by many things. Newer EGR valves actually improve performance of the engine (keep in mind performance means the operations of the engine and not necassarily HP or torque) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exhaust_gas_recirculation
  12. Gullwing doors rarely make it to production, they are best on show cars to show the interior of the car. I wouldnt worry about the doors. These things will ruin my record of never buying a subaru that hasnt been broken in (120K or more). I dont think I would trust hybrid with that mileage.
  13. HISTORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOoooooooooooooooooooo make it go away ... wait .. no thats math. Please continue. Automotive speaking there really hasnt been anything truly new for a while now, just perfected and refined.
  14. I ordered one since I can return it. Going to be a steal at 73.00 shipped.
  15. When was the last time the timing belts were replaced and what else was replaced at the same time? What condition are the CV boots in?
  16. The micorcar museum just closde down and held an auction. Quite a few went for stupid silly money catching everyone off guard. http://www.sportscardigest.com/wp-content/uploads/RM-Auctions-The-Bruce-Weiner-Microcar-Museum-Official-Results.pdf
  17. TB test. Go to a parking lot. Drive the car in as tight a circle as you can. With almost no throttle the car should be able to do this with no learching or jerking, and the steering wheel not fighting you. Under the hood will be a small fuse holder pass side by firewall. It should be empty. Place a fuse in there and see if the issue goes away. The FWD lamp should light on the dashboard. How to fix? 1st try a full tranny flush. If not a new awd clutch pack is in order.
  18. Yes subarus are classics, Honda's are the beaters we use to protect our precous babies from the evils of salt.
  19. National Public Radio makes piston rings, who knew? Anyway ... They get great reviews on other forums. I found out that they Are Nippon Piston Rings. Nippon is OE for many Japanese engines so they should be just as good as OE
  20. Well what else does the car need in the near future, like in the next year? seals? Timing Belt? Any oil leaks?
  21. I say do it, but do use a real boost gauge so you know what is going on before and after. Even with boost limited to 7psi cool air is always better then hot air.
