  1. Your a little under my limit for a replacement rebuild. I use 180K on a subaru as after that you will generally start to develop blow-by. http://www.ssisubiespecialists.com/ have a real storefront, so thats a plus. hehe they even passed zoning http://www.blairtownship.org/TB_minutes_feb_14_2012.pdf
  2. You dont need test switches, just a meter and the ability to adjust them. Usually they just need a tweaking.
  3. Never said they didnt exist, just nthat not all of them have it. Head gaskets do weep with time, it is old age. We leak with old age too. Just due to subarus boxer design whatever leaks usually falls on the exhaust system and becomes quite noticable. Funny how I see more people upset over head gaskets then 1999 transmission failures which seem to happen with more regularity then HG for that year. Now Suzuki Sammis ... they dont have HG issues unless they get old enough, but do seem to like to get belly rubs.
  4. It is. For instance if they all have it then both of mine should and never did. I know countless of others that did not. You do not see 100 of 1000's of complaints on the net or in the news about it the way you do about GM or Neons. the best guestimat put out is about 20% of the 1996-2001 suffer from it and even a smaller amount of the newer ones (external weeping leaks). Using your logic all cars have bad head gaskets as if any car lives long enough it should need one. be careful with blanket statements. Thats the last I will respond to this misinformation and will go back to the topic at hand.
  5. There is a lot of lift stuff out there for the Samari. I would actually lean towards the Sammi for very rough trails. There must be a way to get more power out of it. http://www.lowrangeoffroad.com/index.php/suzuki/samurai.html I know I know I didnt say subaru, Just may be more economical if there are a ton of bolt on parts out there instead of heavily modifying a sooby that may be not quite up to the task.
  6. If the larger filter fits and meets the same criteria go with it. It helps to add some capacity. And yes fram hate is justified as pointed out by many of the studies on fram construction and performance, not including the recent recall of filters made for sunaru by fram.
  7. It is one of the pedal switches, a fairly common failure mode on this generation, otherwise the cruise just works till the doors fall off.
  8. U joints. if there is knocing coming from there check it NOW. You do not want to drop a driveshaft at any speed. Very ugly. First look for any freeplay by hand. Rotata the shaft and loof ro any delayed movement in the yokes. Next unbolt the drive shaft and check the universal joints to see if they are seized. This can be a potentially dangerous situation which needs to be investigated.
  9. http://www.indysworld.com/vehicles/1980-skiwag/skisoob.html Just as a refernce
  10. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Subaru_transmissions There is a list of gear ratios to get you started. OOOh do i get one free name calling?
  11. Isnt sort of hard to drive with all those jumper cables laying about?
  12. but it is not all about hp, but also weight. That will make the car very nose heavy.
  13. Too much heat/vibartion/ozone there to have any epoxy hold it togehter, and really whay take the chance on being in the middle of no where and have the starter fail.
  14. Pull the bulbs out and check them with a meter. Dual filament bulbs may look like they are ok but can be internally shorted.
  15. http://www.autoblog.com/2013/02/12/woman-finds-live-owl-trapped-inside-grille-of-her-ford/ I checked, I dont have this problem, and yes I still have them.
  16. Thats actually can happen. WHen I boughtg Blu2 his rear struts were so bad he was almost bouncing that badly. I considered him dangerous.
  17. I buy Pureone or Mobile One filters for Blu. I buy a standard Ford Truuck Purolator filter for the Justy. Fram, the only thing I get from them are air filters, and only if I have no choice.
  18. http://www.fram.com/sites/default/f/uploads/en/recall_notice_02052013_for_distribution.pdf
  19. Check your coolant level. If the leak is coming out of the HVAC drain hose, then your hosed, so to speak. You have a leaking heater core.
