  1. Thats what I was thinking. I am still pondeing the possabilities. There is also a hack to cut the board and solder the broken connection so you can lay down the radio part of the board, but I dont fully understand the directions.
  2. Lets hope it is the pump. I wouldnt run it anymore untill it is properly diagnosed and resolved.
  3. I have a module that plugs into the stock unit (GROM) but it isnt a true interface. It doesnt automatically interupt a music source on a call (or when the GPS is running), it doesnt fully list the song info, it doesnt break down the music into playlists (its a subaru head unit program issue, not a grom issue). It is limited in what it can do for a subaru due to subarus hardware configuration. A fm module would be even more lacking.
  4. While playing around with places to install my gauges (still a work in progress folks), I made a discovery. If I completlly gut the upper cubby in the center of the dash, with minimal modification I can fit a DIN radio in the hole that is left. I have to check behind that spot to see If it is physically workable. The 2005 Limited has that nasty auto HVAC unit built into the radio. I already have one patch module so it sort of works with bluetooth and ipod, but it is clunky. I can not get rid of the factory radio. The factory radio is a 6 disck changer that plays MP3 (updated from a 2009). IN Blu and the Justy I have a nice media player that works very well with everything. I freely admit that my electronics skills are a bit lacking. I was wondering..... Is it possible to have two stereos wired in parallel to the speakers and such? I would use the stock unit just for discs, I would use the DIN mount for everything else. Thoughts?
  5. I'm going to sit back and listen on this one, as it has been a while since I have a turbo to diagnose. Intermittent can be a pain. to diagnose. But lets get a real vac gauge on there just to check out the basics. No need to drive with it connected as we are looking for responses with the car just running in the driveway.
  6. Never mind. My 2005 outback was built in 2004, so ANNOYINGLY it has a 2004 fuseblock. No wonder the fuse block sticker, the 2005 FSM and the haynes manual were all wrong! Only the owners manual was correct on which fuse was blown. Anyone have a 2004 FSM around? All I need is the electrical section
  7. I was poking around under the headliner looking for the power feeds for the auto dim mirror so I can instally my aftermarket one. I found them, I tested them, and dead circuit. Put the car back together and noticed something odd. The vanity mirrors stopped working along with the heated seats. Ok I blew a fuse. I looked at the FB fuses, and the were fine. The SB fuses (under the hood) arent well marked. The way that wiring diagrams are now done in Hayes (almost useless) and the FSM (annoying) are no help. All I have lost are those two things, everything else works, but I can't swear for the rear power outlet. Where should I be looking.
  8. So your the reason i replied to this .. bad bad no subaru for you.
  9. Change your pcv valve. This is just condensation from biproducts of combustion. Never ever second guess an oil pressure light. Get a cheap oil pressure gauge and check your oil pressure. It may be a bad sender, but why risk it for the cost of 20 bucks. You never rebuild 1/2 an engine, that is really odd.
  10. Check now, and I mean now, to see if you are consuming any oil from a blown oil seal in the turbo.
  11. That would be cool, we could use something to tow out of the much when it gets stuck. However the Xterra may get a scratched roof as sometimes the tunnels made by the shruggery flora and fauna can be a little low.
  12. How truly odd. Yes the FWD fuse only does that one thing, deactivate the AWD system.
  13. It can be a wheel vearing starting to go, at this mileage you are over due. When they first start they like to tease you a bit. Throw-out Bearings are fairly consistant on when they make noises. You can try spinning the wheel and listening with a stethescope to the hub or wait it out to get more pronounced. Luckily as long as your not planning a long trip, the weather is getting nicer so waiting it out a bit may have an up side.
  14. Look at the link I posted, it tells you how to use a vac gauge to test for a clogged cat among other things Being down on power and running poorly, is your turbo operating? IS your turbo gauge in PSI or BAR. The vac gauge is really under appreciated as a diagnostic tool, so simple and very informative.
  15. Lets get a cheap vac gauge from autozone of pep boys, as I don't know what that -8 means. Normal should be 18-20 IN Hg at idle. http://www.classictruckshop.com/clubs/earlyburbs/projects/vac/uum.htm I don't know why your mapper shut off the second O2 sensor (or did he just clear the code?) as it monitors the performance of the cat, unless the mapping was actually pissing off the cat and got you where you are today? For all you know you may be getting a code and it is the 2nd O2 sensor, but since it was shut off, who knows. I would suggest some mechanical things too, like one or more brakes dragging, a huge vacum leak?
  16. Most the cars that come are stock. We even had a stock imp. Your underestimaiting your car
  17. Im thinking a brake pad. The brake wear indicator doesnt make noise then the brakes are applied. It is possible that the wear indicator to make noises at odd times when it is just starting to make contact with the disc. The wheel bearings and rotors do flex a tiny bit normally as part of the nature of the parts, so it may very well be as simple as a brake pad issue.
  18. Washer motor is probably tired. A universal one from an autoparts store will replace it. Is the seat completly dead. do you hear any relays or anything?
  19. Hrmmm this is hard without more clues. can be a motor mount. COuld be a belt. How old is your timing belt. Is it a squeek or a creak? does it happen warm cold or all the time? Does it happen straight or turning or all the time? Why am i tempted to make this a Dr Zeuss rhyme? What happens when the AC compressior is engaged?
