Blu2, which has no personality yet except for a grumpy starter drive, will soon start becoming "my"car. For the 2005 - 2009, I would like to keep from reinventing the wheel. Has anyone made a cutoff switch for the ABS, If so, where did you tap to put a switch. The 2005 does not have a FWD fuse. It actually usses the wheel speed sensors to make sure all the tires match, etc, to keep from damaging things. Has anyone installed a AWD loc switch. I am not sure If i need one yet or not (will find out soon) but I know the AWD has a different curve then Ol Blu did. i just want to keep my options open.

Basic sound system install
nipper replied to sjschlag's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
What is your budget? A din wont fit as DIN didnt exist then. http://www.vintagecarradio.com/store/index.php?cPath=20_68&osCsid=3b014d528d72e8eafca53abac2db6ef3 may not fit. They have great fitting system. I know others have put real radios in these cars, Can we have a pic of the dash please? -
Change the T-stat, use one from subaru, as even the most expensive aftermarket one wont be as good as subaru's. http://opposedforces.com/parts/legacy/us_b11/type_7/climate/heater_system/ Thats the heater system. The heater core box http://opposedforces.com/parts/legacy/us_b11/type_7/climate/heater_unit/illustration_1/ When you switch between fresh air and recirculate do you see a flap moving anywhere? Since I can see leaves and such, drop your blower motos and vacume it out and as much as you can inside the heater box. That may help. And yes your running a little cool, and a little cool on a 4 cyl can make all the difference in the amount of heat available inside the car.

If you need it ASAP order it online someplace. If you found what you think is a OE replacement, just compare it to the one you have. if it is an original it will look alike. If it is better it should have a wider openining then aftermarket. If your really pressed for wheel just take out the T-stat till a suitable replacement arrives. Your heat will suffer and so will MPG, but for a few days it wont hurt.

Bypassing the vapor canister in the bedside?
nipper replied to Tweek's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
I sense autocorrect at work here If your dripping fumes bedside, something is seriously wrong someplace. You can try JB weld. However you shouldnt be dripping liquid out of the chrarcoal canisiter cracked or not. Somehow liquid fuel is getting sucked into the canister where it is just supposed to be fumes. -
driving tip?
nipper replied to Uberoo's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
I have something like this, its called a CVT. The transmission does almost all the work, engine RPM rarely raises over 3800 RPM on WOT. -
driving tip?

Keep in mind that is all in a test lab with no wind drag on an engine Dyno. There is some truth to this. If you open the throttle wide and climb in the gears as quickly as possible yes you will get the best MPG. However screaming around in 2nd gear because the speed limit is 30 mph will hurt your mpg and engine life. Lab tests are great, but the real world has 100's of vairiables and everything on a car is compromise to work within these variables. -
2005 Headliner
nipper replied to nipper's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
It is a limited so it is on timer. The car had a Auto Dimm mirror as an option and the connector is there under the headliner. I am just not sure where it is located and there is no obvious way the dome lights come down, though they probably just snap in. Thank you though. -
I am installing a aftermarket autodim mirror in Blu2. Looking at the wiring diagram all the connections are there in the roof, but I am not sure how to go about getting access to the plug. My gut tells me it is behind the roof light - sunroof switch. I havent looked at the FSM yet as I was just wondering if anyone has gone there before me.

This doesnt look good. I was hoping for an oil leak, a large one. YOu can buy an oil pressure gauge for less then 20 bucks, but if an engine is failing from poor oil pressure, that burning smell is what you get. The engine being hot, is that a observation or from the engine temp gauge on the dashbaord? What does the coolant in the radiator look like? What noises are the engine making?
-
I tripped over this, don't know if it will help anyone http://www.alcyone.org.uk/ssm/

You would be surprised how many people do not think of checking the oil. Did the oil look and smell ok? You can get a cheap mechanical oil pressure gauge for testing purposes, or you can mount it on the dash someplace if you want. Oil pressure right now trumps all other issues. Is there any sign of oil leaking at the front of the engine?
