  1. Is it more apt to do thjis with the ac on? HG is easy, remove the raditor cap let the car spit up a bit whne the tstat opens up, and look for bubbles in the coolant. I am not seeing a new raditor cap on the list. ALso what is your altenator output? nipper
  2. Yes they are very good, but the ones from harbor freight i wouldnt trust. in tools you get what you pay for. nipper
  3. ill do this tomorrow, i bookmarked. Just on top of everything else i have a fever and want to curl. nipper
  4. It sounds like its time for a new exhaust system, Save your pennies *you can install it yourself). I know from exp once you start patching holes in an exhaust system, only a meter of time to replace the entire thing (from the cat back). Who knew you guys had noise laws. nipper
  5. damn it why am i always the one to deliver bad news. You got rooked. I bet you have a bent chassis. There is no reason in the world for a car to be tough to align (aside from uncoperative bolts) except one thing. A bent chassis. Another possability is a bent steering rack, either way it takes a hell of hit to upset these parts. This car is unsafe. DOnt let the dealership do any work on the car as it may be a waste of money. Find a front end shop or a body shop and let them check it out. Also a fast check. Get a freind (not the one who sold you the car). Have him drive car away from you just at idle. You stand behind the car and see if it tracks straight. Are all the door hood rtrunk grill gapes even. Do all the doors close easily. SUbarus are bullit proof, and it sounds like yours found a bullit. nipper
  6. ah ok, you have to forgive me im not feeling well these days. Some muscles and nerves are coming back on line and im miserable. i was supposed to send you a scan? email me at nipper@optonline.net with AC scan in the topic nipper
  7. they are rubber hoses that are connected to boxes called traffic counters nipper
  8. er um why isnt this one under warrnety like the other one? nipper
  9. first thing first, what in hell did you hit to throw out the front end. Get the car to a front end shop asap. You can damage your AWD unit with bald tires in the front and good ones in the rear, aside from that entire "your going to die in a rainstorm" thing. 100,oo alighnment (or less) vs an 800.00 awd repair, or worse. How many miles are on this car. Never ignore a flashing angry cel light. Its telling you that something is terribly wrong and you can fry your converter You need the codes pulled, but first get the front end fixed. You have a series of problems here that can cost a little, or if you let them go, alot. Catalyst effeciency is an 02 sensor. I wonder if your timing belt jumped. DOuble check codes and let me know on how many miles
  10. see if you had power windows this wouldnt have happened. Open up the door, you can see relativly quickly whats wrong. nipper
  11. yes you can do this yoursself. You may have some studs break on the exhaust flange, but thats easiy fixable and avoidable. Just soak all the bolts in nutbuster, and dont forget new gaskets.ALso a new o2 sensor nipper
  12. ok repeat after me M I D A S B A D. If midas cant sell you an complete exhaust system they dont want you. They didnt want to work on the car. Is thear noisey? You can find a cat on the net http://www.discountconverter.com/ is one source. I always got mine from the JC whitney catalog. nipper
  13. forester guys are twisted . This should be easy enough to do, as people do ti all the time in other cars (or used to) Going to be a lot of work. As long your tearing into the transmission inspect the synchros and make sure they are good. That would be the time to change them nipper
  14. but are we ever both logged in at the same time? hrmmmmmmmmmmmmmm nipper
  15. thanks for explaining it. It doesnt have to be just high voltage to get mutual inductance. http://www.ndt-ed.org/EducationResources/CommunityCollege/EddyCurrents/Physics/inductance.htm Inductance is how your coil and transformers work. ONce my boss bought a used 100 ton h frame press. It had a handel on top the change the height of the press. The press had a 240 volt heater on it. Instead of wiring this porperly, he taped into a box and coiled all the extra wire on the handle on top the press. I started blowing out solid state relays and other control items. Then we started getting zapped. I fioinally figured out that coil of wire was inducing a charge in the press. Once we moved the coil it stoped (and i wired it properly ... bosses shouldnt be allowed to play with tools). High Voltage Electricity can do really weird things. nipper
  16. that 1/2 inch of play will give you a torque bind kind of feeling. It will aslo give you weird noises and vibrations. You need to get that fixed. This may be your bad noises. nipper
  17. nope its a magnetic thing, not an physical thing. Google basic electricty or right hand rule, that ill explain it more
  18. not necassarily scamed, he may be un educated in the simple fixes of TB. i still wouldnt take my car back to him again. nipper
