how in heck did he get on a second set of headgaskets? thats unheard of. unless he over heated the car then blew the gaskets. just get a 2.2L form the same year and yould be good to go. Personally i love my 2.5, but with that track record even i would switch to a 2.2 of the same year or generation nipper (and yes there is alway somone around to say its happened to me so hush...)

We always say to use a subaru thermostat (aftermarkets cause headaches). Now the 2.2 is a reverse flow (thermostat on the bottom). Since the temp gauge isnt saying anything (and they are a reliable place to get info). im a bit puzzled. Your not showing the typical symptons of an air buble in the cooling system, but thats the first thing i would check. Is the car full of coolant after its been run? Check the raditor for flow after you put in the new OE thermostat, replace the cap too since your there (its not expensive). For the hell of it check the physical condition of the radiator and make sure its ok. nipper

the engine (motors are electrical devices, sorry pet peeeve) wil last as long as its maintained and not overheated. We have lots of soobies here crossing over into thw 200,000 mile range, and some over 300,000 miles. 1.8L is 110hp/110 ftlbs of torque (not bad by the numbers) 2,2 is 135/140 2.5 is 165/162 (1997 year of my car)) 2.2L turbo is 160/181, i cant find numbers for a 2L turbo. If its an automatic no matter what you do your going to lose alot through that pre 95 gearbox. nipper

i vote for the strut mount (the thing on top of the strut). It has a bearing in it that may be seized. nipper

nothing, unless you want to throw a turbo on it. You didnt say if its a manual or automatic. SUbarus have no hidden HP or torque anywhere, as they are free flowing engines as they are. nipper

This is the first i heard of this (not saying its not true). You car is real young to have an oil leak. As long as its not hemorging out the bottom of the car, your fine. Most the times these things get fixed early cause the oil drips on the exhaust and makes smoke. nipper

Can you adjust a hyd clutch, yes. SHould it be adjusted, no. By adjusting it you are taking out the lash adjustment that is there for heat expansion, and can fuin the clutch. Sometimes you luck out, others time you dont at all. nipper

when you downshift or upshift and keep the same road speed does it go away? Try starting off from a dead stop in 4th gear. If you can do it your clutch is getting tired, if the car stalls your good. My other theory, which the mileage is to low for, is the center carrier bearing on the driveshaft or the universal joints. I am ruling out the mechanical stuff before we get to the electronics (my weak spot but im getting better at it). nipper

There are few things that when you get a failure code, it truly is that part, especially when it is just a single code. VSS crank position sensor cam postion sesnor o2 sensor No one has ever rpelaced one of these when its failed and said that wasnt the problem. so go ahead and replace it nipper
