  1. If its a roar its the differential, and will probably make less noise in reverse. If its a wheel bearing it will be there all the time and change speed on hard left hand or right hand turns. Also a differntial will seem to come from the ceneter of the car, as opposed to the sides. nipper
  2. Lesson 1 grasshoper, autozone and most other autostores will pull the codes for free. Lesson 2 multiple codes usually have a cause and effect, or chain reaction. Lesson 3, whats the mileage, then we can answer better nipper lesson 4, welcome we dont bite
  3. For some reason missfire #3 cylinder seems to be the death wale of an ignition coil on subarus. I suspect the actual prblem is #4 side of the coil, and the #3 side is getting the higher voltage at the wrong time Just an idea, but i would try a coil nipper
  4. My 97 OBW doesnt do it either, lets go beat him up:D nipper i think it was an option
  5. OK so after the first tank of gas, fuel gauge took 250 miles to get to E. before treatment it was 100 miles (usually 280 for the light to come on). It seems ive picked up 2mpg (keeping in mind my car had 184K on it and probably never got an injector cleaning) and the idle has smothed out. nipper
  6. It keeps tires cooler. Unless your pullin a load, or if they are giving it away for free, anything will do. http://www.tommcmahon.net/2004/11/fill_your_tires.html nipper
  7. yes because the awd needs the VSS sensors to operate. Also there is a readline limiter nipper
  8. i have no idea, but the entire assembly is bolted on and can be replaced. nipper
  9. are we talking about the climate control fan? Check the fuse, check the relay, check the switch. my guess is the fuse or the relay nipper
  10. Actually double clutching is becoming a lost art. Learn how to double clutch and there isn't a thing you cant drive. It's handy whem armageden comes, your the only one left, and thay out of town is a 1971 deisel school bus or a 153 john deere farm tractor nipper
  11. thats possible on an engine with lots of miles (sorry if i didnt make that clear) but i really dont by that from gm on a 1 year old engine. nipper
  12. Subaru ignitors are what Chrysler ballast resistors used to be. Fairly simple part can keep the car from running. i keep one in the car just to escape murphies law after having them go bad in the past. nipper
  13. its a bolt on. i wonder what the shipping charges are. Just i dont rerally thnk they are worth it, in 14 years of owning soobies never got one stuck yet (and ive tried). nipper
  14. GM is also facing a lot of lawsuits on piston slap, so i really wouldnt trust GM on this explination. Carbon buildup after 15,000 miles is prettymuch BS. GM's pisotn slap is rather loud and doesnt always go away. Subarus has been explained and most the time can be lived with (everyone with over 150K on thier enigens and with slap raise your hand). Subaru if you stand your ground will fix it, where as GM seems to be telling its customers to take a hike. the only thing i can think of is that the thread here is that he truly has ping, not slap, then the water method woprks well to get rid of carbon nipper
  15. yes the temp sessor can make weird things happe. If tou are positive the transmission is over filed, what color is the fluid. there are two ways for it to be over filled. the first is, well, somone over filled it. The second is that the coller inside the radiator is leaking. Usually the fluid gets pumped into the radiator since the tranny pressure is higher then the radiator pressure. My bet is that it was overfilled, and all the fluid you see under the car is the excess fluid being puished out. Have the tranny oil changed and the temp sensor replaced and we will see what happens. Soobys dont usually leak fluuid by the seals. It is also possible you have a pan leak. nipper
  16. The car has two VSS sensors and a tachmoeter. The limiter can read any combination of those three items and figure out how fast you are going. nipper
  17. i tend to replace the oil pump at 200,00 miles or whatever timing belt change is close to that number nipper
