  1. thats an ugly noise. Its def something in the timing belts. Can be the tensioner, can be an idler, either way its better that you findo out before the car shows you for itself what it is. nipper PS sound file helped alot, wish more people would do that
  2. thats in theory. Tires arent round, they are flat on the bottom. Tis will explain exactly what you are saying. sorry im too tired to discuss this one myself. http://draco.acs.uci.edu/rbfaq/FAQ/8b.14.html http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/techpage.jsp?techid=29 i love tirerack nipper
  3. Japan have weird emission laws and car inspection requirements, i dont really understand them, but the older the car gets, the more it costs to register it every year. After 4-5 years its cheaper to buy a new car. Also they have no used car market. http://www.masterseek.com/p/13/67/Japanese-Import.htm nipper
  4. http://www.pge.com/microsite/PGE_dgz/body/hp.html http://www.electricbob.com/page1.htm maybe that will help explain it nipper
  5. takes voltage and amperage to start the car. You have the voltage, you may even have 20-30 amps in the battery, but not the few 100 it takes to start the car. nipper
  6. sorry i didnt realize it had dead links http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/techpage.jsp?techid=29
  7. that was going to be a guess, but it seemd like the variation on how often it happened seemed too far apart. I had it go in my GL and it drove me up the wall but it would happen withing a few blocks to a mile, would stutter, miss cough. nipper
  8. Jump start the car (thank GOD this one is simple). i bet your altenator is dead. It sounds like mom was driving off the battery for a while and didnt know it. The battery will build up a charge again if it is allowed to sit. She didnt totally kill the battery, hence why you have some juice. Jump start the car then check the voltage. nipper
  9. do NOT reuse the timing belt otherwise the next time in chicago i will personally hunt you down . It can be streteched out or have broken/weakened/striped teeth. Yes you are getting a new tensioner (i always bought the assembly myself as the spring can be tired too), but others may have a differnt opinion Along with the main seal also do the cam seals and waterpump. il let somone else with more exp describe how to remove the crank gear (im just tired and the dilaudid is kicking in). But i will tell you MAKE SURE you properly torque that bolt when you reinstall it. That can come back and make your life truly miserable later. Odd i usually go through minisota at 100, but thats on a crotch rocket so i guess they dont bother me. good luck. nipper
  10. https://www.subarugenuineparts.com/oe_parts_cat.html try here. If you need to call ask for Jamie, shes on this board. nipper
  11. i think there is a TSB about wind noise, i just forget what 200X year it is. Do a search here you may find it. nipper
  12. hey im supplying the keg, not the pizza. i like my pizza plain. Ok a little comic relief When i lived in SLC about 15 years ago, i had a big old oldsmobile of 60's vintage. The timing chain jumped. We decided to replace the timing chain back at the condo i was staying at. (whoever said utah is a dry state should live there). Well i can atest that is possible to get timing gears and a chain on backwards. A nice summer day, some beer, some tequila (ok lots of tequila), a fairly simple project. Well we started the car and it ran fine, drove it 15 feet and all hell broke loose. In our "elated" state, we managed to get the gears on backwards (we wondered why they didnt just slip on ... more tequilla will solve that problem). We decided tequila and car repairs werent a good thing and let it go a few hours before we attacked it again. Man can those mormens drink. now back to your regularly schedualed puzzle. Either we do a road trip to chicago to get his car running or all chip in for a tow truck:lol: nipper
  13. this keeps up im going to start a new thread, this is getting too long for everyone. For a 1995 you need a code reader OBDII (or scanner) to read the codes. The car is acting as it should when you plug those two plugs together. You can rent a scanner from autozone. It may be time to hand it over to shop. It will cost some money, but atleast the car will get running without you driving yourself nuts (meant in a supportive way). Haynes manual explains it in chapter six nipper
  14. i tried AC pulley:banana: that and i still have no life and im pigheaded:grin: nipper
  15. leave the car on and it not running, can damage the ignition system. interesting, it doesnt mention it in the owners manual (my bad). I have seen it in others. It does say it in the repair manuals (dont leave the car in the on position and not running for any length of time). Maybe we can sue everytime we burn a coil out nipper

  17. there was a link on here not too long ago about that same thing. You just replace the bearing (hopefully). Sadly it may be compressor that is making the death wale. Do a search and you should be able to find it. nipper
  18. there are warnings in the haynes manual, the owners manual, and chiltons not to do this (on any car). if everything is lined up, it can deliver power to the coil and have that one plug zapping, and it will over heat the ignitor or coil and fry it.
  19. this is a very simple car. There a couple of things that can kill the fuel. A bad fuel pump relay, or a bad fuel shut off solenoid. Now is a good time to learn about cars. FOund this on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chiltons-85-92-Subaru-Legacy-Brat-Justy-Repair-Manual_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6762QQihZ019QQitemZ8073859625QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW you may want to get one. I have a few tests you can do but it requires a second person. next time it happens, remove the air cleaner and find the accelerator cable. Pull the cable or push and watch the carb. If there is a stream of fuel its not a fuel problem. If there isnt its an ignition problem. nipper
  20. dont hurt me, i was going to say the fuel pump relay after i realized that there are both carberated and FI justys. I dont think carberated justies had a feed back loop with the ecu, im not sure (need a manual). When it happens wil the car immediatly restart? nipper
