05 OB has had the 0420 for the last 60K miles. I changed both O2 sensors and then called it a day. I went through the whole workup with Cardoc and was determined to be a bad cat. Gas mileage is fine. I live in an emissions state. Bought a cheap Autel $20 code reader and I clear the code and allow the systems to reset then scoot over for the emissions test and I'm good for another 2 years. Eastern Catalytics sells some cheap cats. Probably only last a few years as the cost is a function of how much precious metal is in the cat. So, if you need to sell, try this bandage and leave no forwarding address.

You didn't say whether the recent squeaking is affected by tapping the brakes. Had squeaking from what I thought was the brake pad wear indicators tweeting against the rotor. Turned out that when I went to replace what I thought was worn brake pads, the pads still had plenty of meat on them. The pads had a bunch of rust and crud on the tabs and caused the pads to get hung up. Filed the tabs down so the pads moved freely and noise is gone.

Never got the check engine code on my 08 but, according to the Great Oracle Google, this appears a somewhat common issue from 02 to 2013 Oct 6 Japan's Fuji Heavy Industries said on Thursday it was recalling about 100,000 of its Subaru-branded vehicles in Japan to fix a problem with an air pump switch located in the main fuse box. The recall covers models including the Legacy and Imprezza, along with XC and Forrester crossover SUVs produced in 2006-2013. The Japanese automaker said it was also planning to recall models overseas, but declined to give further details.

I think you mean motor oil?? From the Great Oracle Google: Rust is another name for iron oxide, which occurs when iron or an alloy that contains iron, like steel, is exposed to oxygen and moisture for a long period of time. Over time, the oxygen combines with the metal at an atomic level, forming a new compound called anoxide and weakening the bonds of the metal itself. I've seen some pretty old cars with inferior metal sprayed with old motor oil and it seems to inhibit further oxidation. If the air can't reach the metal, no more rust.

checked again. silicone sprayed all bushings and it still appears to be coming from the top of the rear shock. Is there any easy way to access that mounting area for silicone spraying to at least verify the source. Are there any bushings internal to the shock that could squeak? never did shocks before.
