Nor Nev and Nor Cal meet 8/6
Yeah, I know, pictures are long overdue! No D/R like ForesterRanger, and I don't plan to do that in the future. I like AWD, and I have the AndyJo transfer clutch pack override, but I did it more than a year before Andy did. The lift is from SubaXtreme, and is just blocks on top of the struts. I also have the SubaXtreme front offroad Bullbar/bumper that provides a much better approach angle. I just completed some custom sway bar quick disconnects, and a custom rear bumper for better departure angle is in process. Hopefully the bumper will be done within a couple weeks, then I'll post some pics.

brake differences?
What type of rotor would you consider to be better, but not bigger? I don't get it.

Nor Nev and Nor Cal meet 8/6
Good point! Yes, even with the 2" lift, my Forester is quite comfy. And if it gets cold, I can always turn on the seat heaters! If we would meet up on Sunday, I'd probably head up on Saturday and camp out. Might even bring the mountain bike along and check out some new trails, although I've explored quite a few MTB trails around Tahoe, I'm sure I could find something new.

Replaacing the Duty C
There isn't any viscous material near the transfer clutch pack on an Automatic.

Manual Transmision Torque Binding???
Don't go back to that person! The VC unit is sealed, and a friction modifier will be a waste. If the torque bind is properly diagnosed, then you need a new center VC. Are you the only owner of the car? If so, then it is odd that this happened if you watch tire pressure and tire wear.

Tire Rotation Question
MountainBiker replied to hohieu's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXOn the other hand, most tire sales shops recommend doing cross rotations on non-directional tires. Take a look at tire rack for instance.

I sacraficed my wallet for you ..
MountainBiker replied to nipper's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYou can get a little better price by getting in on the ToyotaNation.com group buy. You don't have to own a Toyota, and in fact, you don't even have to join the forum: http://toyotanation.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1346493&postcount=217 I've had the ScangaugeII for a couple months now, and it is a good product. I still haven't found a good place to mount it either!

where to buy parts
MountainBiker replied to aldug's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXwww.SubaruGenuineParts.com for accessories Use this section of their website for OEM replacement parts: www.subarugenuineparts.com/oe_parts_cat.html Put your VIN in the appropriate place, and then you won't be subject to fees if it doesn't fit!

Oregon off-road tour. help needed!
I might be interested in tagging along! Sounds like you have a good trip planned out. I'm chomping at the bit to try out my recently installed lift and offroad front bumper! I just need to get my schedule figured out to see if I can take two weeks off, since I'd plan to visit some friends near Seattle after the show.

Thread size of rear diff breather?
Yep, that is what I'd like to do in order to get a secure attachment. It'll take more than removing the cover, because to get access to the top with the tap, the diff needs to be dropped 6" or so. A few weeks ago I looked at the differntial mounts and it shouldn't be too hard to do. An alternative would be to drill a hole through the sheet metal from the rear luggage area, to allow direct access to the top of the diff. Should be able to get a hole plug that would fit to seal it back up. Toyota has a diff breather extension with a hose fitting that is at 90 degree angle that should work. It is toyota part number 90404-51026 for about $4.

Bucking/hesitation when accelerating and uphill
Sounds like a knock sensor to me. That is what just went out in our '02 Forester with the same symptoms. Difference is that I get a CEL, and the code is P0325.

Thread size of rear diff breather?
I'm a little concerned about having a line attached to it, since it could easily pull out the fitting. I've gotta give it some thought, and see what else is available for a fitting.

Thread size of rear diff breather?
The breather isn't threaded at all, it is just a push in style. Here are the details: http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/forums/showpost.php?p=75169&postcount=7

Thread size of rear diff breather?
I can barely see the top of it, and once you spot it, you can reach up there to feel it. But it seemed impossible to get a wrench in there to take it off. On the Forester, it is visible from behind, and it is slightly to the left of center. It is the only thing sticking up on the top of the diff, directly in front of the rear cover.

Thread size of rear diff breather?
I figure that somebody here must have a rear differential sitting around on a workbench, in particular, one that will be similar to a Forester diff. If so, could you measure the thread size for the little breather that is mounted on top of the diff housing? The breather looks like a small thimble on top, with a hex base for using a wrench on it. I'm guessing it is a tapered pipe thread, but I need to know the thread size. Yes, I'm rigging a diff breather extension, and I have a line on a 90* angle fitting that I think might work. I'd like to just drop the diff once to install it, rather than twice (once to measure, and a 2nd time to install it).

bleeding clutch - speed bleeders?
MountainBiker replied to nickb21's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWhy mityvac with a speedbleeder? Waste of money. Just use the speedbleeder

Rotella synthetic oil
The Rotella T Synth is good stuff. Read it on BITOG as mentioned above. It isn't THAT much cheaper than Mobil1, because the Rotella is sold in 4 qt jugs for (from memory) $16, while Mobil1 is in a 5 qt jug for $21. That is just a $0.20/qt difference.

Mityvac for break fluid change
MountainBiker replied to Joe719's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYep, power vacs pull air around the bleed screw, and make things difficult. They perhaps even add more air than is removed! SpeedBleeders all the way. If you have a clutch, put a speedbleeder on there too. http://www.Oakos.com has great prices and great service.
