rear disc conversion ... interchange alert

You need to find out what car those came from. There is no reason to modify anything on your car as long as you got the right parts. I believe the 2WD and 4WD backing plates are the same. Are you sure those are from a Subaru?? maybe a Legacy or something. -Brian -

Should I get another sube??
TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
THe raffle is a good idea. But if I get it, i want to make it fast. Ive never had a EFI motor let alone a turbo, and im very eager to make some power. But SHawn is right, its a waste of time to have 3 cars. Expecially since i dont even have 2 parking spots let alone 3. Shawn. I had that exact same idea today on my way home from work. I bought the brat so I can have the best of both worlds... slow for the woods, and a faster brat for the street. My goal was to make the Brat EFI but I could just lift the brat and use the GL10 as a racer. Another Idea i had was to buy it, get it running and take it to Oregon and sell it. I know someone will buy it after the 1st snowfall. And if I could get it running the way it was when it was bought, i know I could get $1,500 for it and not even have to smog it -Brian -
I put rear disc brakes on my lifted wagon. It stops better than my brat. It will still lock up all 4 and if I do, its hard to control it. But with the 4wheel disc's, you can control your braking alittle better than with rear drums 90mph is fun tho with a Subaru thats 6" higher than stock -Brian

Should I get another sube??
TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Insurance isnt really that expensive. My brat and wagon averages about $400ea for 6months of insurance. Of course the GL10 would be different being its a different engine, and its a faster car. But it does have AWD and thats a big safety factor. It probably wouldnt be insured or re-registered until its running to my standards (FAST!!) -Brian -

saaaaaaaafety glasses
TheSubaruJunkie replied to baccaruda's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I know this shouldnt be said, it should be common... but ALWAYS wear them around power tools. Even something as small as a Dremel Tool. one time I was cutting some metal with my dremel and a small cuttoff disk. At about 15,000 to 20,000rpm, and the disc broke. Pieces of cuttof disc went everywhere, and i could feel 2 pieces bounce off my safety glasses. Luckily I was wearing them. if not, i would have had 10,000rpm chunks of heavy duty cuttoff disc reaking havoc on my retna. So yeah. Keep a spare, and get the GOOD kind. -Brian -

You guys are right. I will talk to my landlord and see if I can park one of the cars in the backyard while its being worked on. I'll keep everyone updated. SOOBME! If you are reading this... i will need to contact you. Im very interested in one of those downpipes you made. -Brian -
Miles, i have nothing but the utmost respect for what you've done. Lord knows there's no way in hell i can fabricate a lift. expecially a 6" lift. But i was just letting it be known, that if he buys a PK lift, and installs it properly, he will not experience any of the problems you described. No bag intended. -Brian

Should I get another sube??
TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thats another reason why I want it. It would be the newest Subaru I've owned. Its a 1989 GL10, and its pretty roomy compared to my wagon and brat. It would be a perfect road trip car. If you have a brand new car, you get reamed on taxes. When I bought my brat, i had the owner write $300 on the title when sold, instaed of $1,500. That way tax isnt that much. When I bought my '84 Wagon, the dealer i bought it from tried to charge me $280 in tax when he was asking $1400 for the car. I told him i would give him $1,100 cash that same day, including what ever tax came to, and he would have to figure out the rest. Anyhow. A $30,000 car, you'd pay ALOT in tax's. Thats why cali sucks. But a $300 '89 GL10 Turbo Wagon with FT4WD 5spd.... its hard to pass up. -Brian -
Not to bag on Miles lift, but if you purchase your lift from PK and install it properly, it will handle like a stock rig. -Brian

Should I get another sube??
TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah, i think i could get it running, and with alittle tweaking i could make it fast. The FT4WD works great. The car belongs to my roomate, and i went with him for the test drive. Miles, my Brat will cost $44 for this year, and i just paid $62 to register my wagon for another year. Next year is smog year (yay) and it will almost be double after total tests and fee's. To have a 3rd wagon will kill me. I could use $300 (the value of the computer) more than another sube. But your right, when will i ever get another offer like this. -Brian -

The lawn is where my roomate parks his truck. I think i might do it. -Brian -
Ok. ive been offered a EA82T GL10 TurboWagon. Touring wagon with raised roof, EA82T, full time 4WD 5spd with diff lock (single range). Power everything. Its got all the options but the sunroof. Body is rough, engine may need a new turbo, or could be as bad as new heads (havent determined yet). The owner offered to trade me straight across for a computer. I have the spare computer I can get rid of, but the problem I have is i already have a lifted wagon and a brat. I have no room to park and no money to register another car. But I would love to hop up a EA82T and tear it around on the pavement and gravel. Should I? Or should I sell the computer, and build a better and faster one? -Brian

I hope your talking about cat fish Moosens. -Brian -
Yeah, ken brought up a valid point. Handling characteristics will depend alot on which tire/rim combination. The tires I chose are 205/75R14 Cooper Discoverer STT's mounted to 14" Puegeot Alloy Rims. I built the car with highway driving in mind, as at the time, it was still my daily driver. Im sure if I replaced my rims with 15" steels and got some 29" Swampers, the characteristic's would change alot. -Brian

Yeah, funny story regarding 13" street tires and airing down. My father's answer to everything off-road related is airing down your tires. everytime I explain a story about me and off-road, he always asks "did you air down your tires?" One time I was off-road with my Wagon, before the lift, before the tires. I was running 175/70R13's, bald street tires and i was stuck in the mud. Picture: Anyhow. when my father came to pull me out, the 1st thing he asked was "did you air down your tires?" After I said no, i explained why. So, he came with his '94 Jeep Cherokee, with a 4" lift and some larger tires with mud tread. came to the hole, aired down his tires. After he got stuck in the mud, with the aired down tires and all... he started to rock the jeep back and forth. Until the front axle snapped. picture: -Brian

Would you like me to delete this thread? Or are we waiting for Skip to respond to it? Im working on a new style for the USMB that is the same as the default style, but acts differently. Like taking the "new thread" button out of the thread view, so you can only reply while reading a thread. Anyhow. -Brian

Its not an ea82, but my EA81 drives GREAT on the highway. I have a '84 GL Wagon with a 3/3 Lift and 26" Cooper Discoverer STT's (mud tread). The car actually cruises more comfortably because my rev's are lower at high speeds (due to the larger tires). Acceleration is almost non-existant, but on long trips its nice. The handling is good as well. Not as good as stock, but very very smooth. Even with the loud tires. The ride is alot smoother on my wagon than my brat. -Brian
