  1. Ah yeah those types. I used one of those back in the day. It was my ex-girlfriends and it worked great for haulin the bikes to the trail and back... but it was a hassle to put on and take off everytime. That, and the front wheel was free to move and bounce around... plus, it would hide my new decals
  2. Alot of vehicles in the US use the tow hitch racks, however my legacy does not have a tow hitch and I have no desire to install one. The cost of the hitch assembly itself would be more than the two trays together, and then add in the cost of the rack assembly... its just way too much to be spending. Besides, i think it looks better with the bike on top My bike is real light, i can lift it ontop of the roof with one hand. The bike is a 2000 Specialized FSR Enduro Comp. It has Manitou Black Elite front fork, adjustable from 80mm to 100mm with adjustable rebound & dampening. Everything else is pretty much stock. Shimano XT derailers. It has Hayes HFX-9 front and rear disc brakes. Im about to purchase a new rear shock and im either getting the Fox Float RP2 or the RP23.
  3. Since I got the mountain bike and have been using the piss out of it, time to dress up the car alittle. I ordered up some bike trays from Rocky Mounts. These things are awesome, they fit on the stock luggage rack and dont cost an arm and a leg ($85 per tray). The tray didnt quite fit right... it sat too far back and kept me from opening my rear hatch. I had to reverse the top mount to scoot the tray forward a couple inches. That still didnt give me enough room so I had to slightly modify the front rail in order to move it 2" farther forward. That gave me just enough room to open the rear hatch without a bike on the tray, which is good enough for me I got a second tray I will install this weekend incase I need to tote a friend with me. Well now that the bike trays are there, I gotta have something that sais I use it, even if there isn't a bike in it. So I got me some more decals to help fill in the blank window space on my car Got them in the mail yesterday and quickly went out to see what would look best. This is what I came up with: -Brian
  4. As if there already isnt enough to do at the show, I wanna do a short bike ride. Im planning on bringing my Mt. Bike with me, and I know a couple others are as well. I am going to start researching the area and maybe find a simple trail to play on. Maybe something 5miles out and 5miles back. I know its real early to be planning stuff, but realisticly we got like 3 months before the show. So who all is in? -Brian
  5. a decal remover works great. http://www.menintools.com/ast1208a.html
  6. Yup, seeing if we're gonna have anyone else tagging along with us. I think I'm going to have to call jibs via telephone (GASP) cause his internet seems to be limited these days.
  7. Marvels Mystery Oil is the Seafoam for your crankcase. ATF works too.
  8. Including you Nevada guys too! Who all is planning on driving to the WCSS this year from California? -Brian
  9. As long as they didnt scratch your rims. Those things are BEAUTIFUL!! WoW! -Brian
  10. Yeah please disregard all that. ontop of it, the gallery software is bugged and I can no longer edit or remove comments.
  11. If the car is still in your name (title and registration) then I suggest you go get it and do with it what you please. If he has already started transfering it into your name, you may want to be cautious as it could be considered theft by trying to "repo" it.
  12. They are from a chevy luv. 14" steels. Here are some pictures from the painting process: http://gallery.usmb.net/album56
  13. I wouldn't go that far... there aren't many like GD around. However, you cant treat your Subaru like you did your DSM. They are 2 completely different vehicles, with completely different technology. In order to locate a vacuum leak, spray around your engine in spots with carburator cleaner. Do this with the engine running at idle, while warmed up to operational temp's. If you spray somewhere, and the engine idle smooths out or picks up, there is a vacuum leak in that area and deserves some further investigation. Ripping out emissions stuff and plugging off vacuum lines will NOT fix your problems, it will only cause more. -Brian
  14. I changed it today becuase there is evidence i had at least 13,000 posts before it was reset to 0.
  15. The weber 32/36 will be the simplest swap. You will need a EA82 carb manifold. It will bolt right on. You will do away with most the vacuum lines. However, i doubt the problem you are experiencing is the SPFI, and its possible you will still have the same problem with a carb.
  16. I cant think of any special tools that you would need. Can you elaborate on what the manual asks for?
  17. Here is my hatchback the day I bought it. And shortly thereafter: And in action: And hundreds more pictures are here if you'd like to see them: http://gallery.usmb.net/hatch -Brian
  18. Adjusting the timing is done by rotating the distributor either clockwise or counterclockwise. I would pull and check all your spark plugs. If you do not know the last time they have been changed, then I would change them. Even if they look good, they could be faulty. You'd be suprised how many times Ive solved this kind of problem with new plugs. That, or the coil is on its last leg. No real way to test the coil. They could work great at low RPM however at a higher RPM the system can become weak and cause a misfire which would result in your poor performance past 3k. Both are cheap repairs. -Brian
  19. 5 years and i only got 680 posts. cant get any more anti-post-whore than that can you? Just alittle history, this was the first post on the new USMB when we rolled out the VBulletin software. Jeremy has no job or life and spends his days reading every thread on the USMB starting at #1.
  20. ROFL Jeremy you are gonna get in trouble. This isnt subaru related :-p
  21. When I rebuilt my LSD i used some Castrol LSD Additive with regular Diff Gear Oil. I did some research and found many who have done the same. I found both at my local autozone. -Brian
  22. When smog shops run your vehicle through the tester, it logs your vehicle information and the shops information. It then forwards this info to the DMV. If later on down the road, you get pulled over by a cop. And he visually inspects your car and notices its not smog worthy, the DMV will then contact the shop who passed you, and they will most likely do an investigation. For this reason, most smog shops will not just "smog" your car. Ive had a couple places refuse to test my RX because the engine code did not match the VIN. They don't even want to risk the chance of anything comming back on them. Its a pretty messed up scenario. Its not just the emissions we gotta deal with anylonger. -Brian
  23. I just setup tent away from party central. Seems to have worked for me the past few years.
