  1. I cant plan that far ahead. Maybe at the end of june we can start planning things for July.
  2. I would stick with the smaller 13" alloys. You can find them for sale in our marketplace, or in the junkyard. Dont worry about backspacing, anything with a 4x140mm bolt pattern will work. -Brian
  3. I think this would be better suited as an announcement instead of just a sticky. Something like this relates to EVERY subaru owner, not just those who chose to off-road em. We all own 4 wheel drive subarus (except the few with FWD only) See my reply in the OT thread.
  4. One other thing to consider... if your car has the stock 13" steel wheels, maybe look for a set of lighter alluminum rims. You'd be surprised how much sportier a car can feel with less rotating mass on each corner.
  5. Do you know if it has a single barrel carburator or a 2bbl carb? The suggestion these guys listed are not practical. There are a few things you can do. If you have a 2bbl carb, you can modify it to manually open the 2nd throat. see: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=49976 Advance your timing a few degree's. I think the stock EA81 is supposed to be 8 degree's, I found that running at 12 degree's gives you alittle more gettyup off the line. However, Im thinking your car, being a 1981 DL, is a 1600cc. If that is the case, no matter what you do to it, its still gonna be slow
  6. it was an option in 1983. I found that alot of California cars got them. -Brian
  7. Bring a bike and lets go! Not much wheelin for me this year... the legacy doesnt have the clearance or the tires for it.
  8. Actin like an old guy all the time out rallyin and wrenchin!!! Happy Birthday Ed!!! -Brian
  9. Your right, my bad. so what disease does your mechanic got that allows him to trade services for marijuana? Im sure your prescription doesnt authorize you to use your medicine like food stamps either. back on topic, your tranny is fuct. I'd suggest taking it to a shop if you want to have it fixed. Or if you want to bandaid it, refill the fluids and drive it. Chances are it will last another 20 to 75,000 miles. I would also recommend checking the oil in the engine to make sure theres some there as well.
  10. Just the type of person I want working on my car. Some half witted stoner who works on farm equipment.
  11. I say you weld the center diff, run only rear axles in a stock EA82 Diff, and have a 2.2 liter RWD RX
  12. Charter member means Ive been here since Day one. Actually, the USMB is 10 years old this year, but thats another subject for another day. If you ask me, I say you need to find a new mechanic.
  13. Yup. Sounds like the dude did a SPFI conversion on your EA81. Thats pretty cool, not many have accomplished that here. This is the cone filter & adapter I was using on my Turbo EA82. Someone will have to verify wether the MPFI and SPFI MAF's have the same bolt pattern. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/91-99-Nissan-Sentra-200SX-SE-MAF-Adapter-Red-Filter_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33659QQihZ009QQitemZ190215856133QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW Should work better than a sock anyhow.
  14. Okay i stand corrected, it is the original motor, but it should be carburated. I suggest removing the section that sais "Subaru F.I" and seeing if there isnt a carburator under there after all. It maybe that someone removed the stock air box and replaced it with the Subaru F.I. plentum instead. Here is a picture of a EA81 with a carburator on it: a SPFI intake will look completely different. -Brian
  15. MAF adapters for a Nissan will work. I think i used a nissan sentra adapter for my EA82 that was MPFI. if the SPFI MAF is the same, then the adapter will work. The engine is not original and was put into that car. in 1983 there were no subarus offered as fuel injected unless it was turbocharged. And they never turbocharged a hatchback from the factory. If you live in CA, best of luck getting it smogged. -Brian p.s. might want to do something about your avatar as this is a family friendly forum.

  17. Thanks for the offer, but It wouldnt bother me at all if you just tagged along. Sorry, but the back seat will be folded down and packed full of stuff. Jeremy, Dave, Jibs & I are planning a return trip that will most likely take us an additional 3 to 4 days. -Brian
  18. Wow, you think with questions like this we would have an entire forum dedicated to Subaru Retrofitting. -Brian *hint* click on the link
  19. the 1600 redlines alot sooner than the 1800. IIRC the tach in my 78 GL redlined at 4.5k (not the 78 i sold and bought from you, my 1st car). Maybe someone in the historic forum can verify. -Brian
  20. Better start saving your money now then Jeremy!!! If you cant afford the gas, you are welcome to ride along with me. I swear, I wont freak out and yell at anyone (unless I get flipped off again) -Brian
  21. That too. REason I would sell the truck to get the brat. As it is, the truck is a project. I just moved one project out of the driveway. Dont wanna replace it with another. -Brian
  22. Okay. I am going to give him some time to think about it. I haven't really got the money or the space right now for another brat. And I really, really, REALLY don't want another project car.
  23. Were there ever 4 speed FWD's for the EA81 series? I thought all 2WD Tranny's were 5 speed?
  24. Going to prepare the Toyota for sale. And I dont have a lifted subaru (yet) -Brian
