Old Subaru press photos
I would be that Brian Glad to see you made it over here. Your page is awesome, i spent some time last night surfing through it. However, the navigation is alittle difficult. I had to type in http://www.oldjapanesecar.com to get to your main page, which is where i found your links page. But from the links page, there is no way back to the main page. And from the main page, i was unable to find the subaru page, or any other page that may contain old japanese car pix. -Brian

Should I put a Toyota build thread on a Subaru message Board?
Yeah my subaru would have rolled all the way over, in both cases. Regardless, it would have been fun -Brian

Should I put a Toyota build thread on a Subaru message Board?
Well the 1st time i put it on its side was an accident. Was trying to straddle a pretty deep rut, had my passenger side tires on a wall, rut under me, and my drivers tires on the edge of the rut. I drove into the rut, drivers side tires fell in, and the truck went onto its side: It was so much fun, i had to do it again! The 2nd time was on purpose. I found a good spot, the camera man was rollin tape, so I picked my line and braced myself. The footage is in the video's forum. The rubicon trip is on hold. This weekend (Aug 18/19) we were planning to do it. But the FOTR (Friends of the Rubicon) are planning a trail cleanup that weekend... and they will be cleaning the Wentworth Springs Campground entrance. THe very campground we planned on staying at. So then we planned on running Deer Valley, but it turns out the Sierra Hi/Lo's are doing their annual Poker Run there this weekend... so we are going to run another local trail in Strawberry instead. Hoping to have pictures, maybe even footage. I got my Hysteer kit today and started installing it. Tomorrow I have to mount the IFS box and weld the bracket in place. Then if i can find the time I'd like to mount my onboard air, but other than that im itchin and (almost) ready to go! -Brian

Crashed the loyale...
I did that to my wagon, and I replaced the lower control arm to make it straight. But, it also bent the sway bar, and i didnt get an extra. So i ended up forcing the sway bar into place, and even tho it looked good from the outside, the car had a horrible pull to the right when i was done. When you get your parts. Get a new sway bar too. -Brian

i got it! crazy D scores again ***now with pics!!!!!!***
Dalton. The wagon carcass i have up at Jibs had a rear disc setup on it. I believe they are still up there. The rotors and Caliper and backing plate are all you need. If you can get it off of there, they are yours. -Brian

New(er) tires on the Toyota
Who is greg? ive been reading all day about Trail-Gear's stuff, and have heard nothing of the sort. I also emailed them about their flat pitman arm and they said it was only for use with the samarai. If greg is running rear springs up front, then he will have problems like that. -Brian

Should I put a Toyota build thread on a Subaru message Board?
Yeah, okay... you talked me into it! So, im making progress. Figured I would share with some friends here. This is what it looked like the day I bought it: Its a 1986 Toyota SR5 Cab on a 1984 4WD Frame. It has the carburated 22R, solid front and rear axles. 5 speed dual range manual 4WD transmission. 3" lift, and came with 29" Super Swamper TSL/SX. A few wheelin trips, and I realized even tho they are swampers, the tiny 29" (hah... 29" being tiny... woah, reality check) Swampers just weren't going to hang. I was having trouble climbing some rocks and ledges, using more clutch than I'd like to. So I was surfing Pirate4X4 and found a set of used (very used) 33" tires for $50. Couldnt pass up the price, and they have enough tread on them to last at least this season... if not next. I put the truck on its side a couple times. And I got tired of putting the shell back on over and over again, so I removed the shell and kept it off. The front bumper is some smittybuilt piece of crap. Looks like 3" tubing, and the previous owner cut about 6" off each end to keep it from protecting the side of my truck. A co-worker/buddy of mine with a '82 Yota bought a tube bender, and he has a welder and only lives 1/2 a mile from me. He had a section of 2x4 square tube left as scrap steel, so I took 2 sections and welded them together to create the bumper itself. Then it was a matter of bending some tube and comming up with something that looked like it would help protect me on the trail. This is just a 1st step. The next step is to come off the hoop and go over the headlights, then I will follow the fender down to the nerf bars. Hoping to have that taken care of in the next week. Then Modifications in chronological order: 1) 63" Chevy Rear Springs (got em, just waiting to finish the bumper) 2) HySteer Conversion 3) Dual Transfercases (already have the case, just need the kit) 4) uhm... probably something really expensive. -Brian

New(er) tires on the Toyota
I think the marlin kit comes with the pitman arm. I think maybe I will buy tires and/or suspension for the legacy first. Kinda torn between the legacy and the toyota. -Brian

New(er) tires on the Toyota
I think im going to do the hysteer 1st. Was talking it over today with my buddy, and we agree'd... The dual cases would be nice, however the steering will leave me stranded on the trail whereas the clutch would just make it difficult on the trail. That and it will be easier to buy the hysteer kit and install it, rather than peice together the dual case setup week after week and finally get it installed whenever. I started working on my front bumper today too Its going to be sweet. I gotta clean up the main bumper beam at work with the grinder, then i'll snap some shots and post them up for everyone to see. -Brian

New(er) tires on the Toyota
Jared, im already toasting my clutch as it is. I see a replacement in the very near future. I have access to a welder and a steel supplier through work. My co-worker (the one with the welder, and only lives like 1/2 mile from me) built square driveshafts for his toyota, and they turned out real beefy and cheap. But his rig is a trailer queen and I still want to drive mine to the trails and back. My steering is dinky and i can see it will fail soon, if given the chance. The hysteer kit is pretty much bolt on and i dont need any extra accessories, where-as the t-case kit just starts at the t-cases then i gotta do drivelines and x-members... kit might be $350, but i can see myself getting into the $500-$600 range real quick. -Brian

New(er) tires on the Toyota
Its the 4, and it has plenty of torque for the 33's. If they were 37's or 40's i would be sweatin the 6cyl. Jared. Ive been lookin at dual t-case adapters all day cause man I could really use the gearing. I have another t-case sitting in the garage just waiting for the kit to put it in. BUt it just starts at the kit, then i need drivelines. So im at a standstill... do I do the hysteer kit or the Dual t-cases??? Both are about the same, and both are equally important. Tomorrow I fab my front bumper -Brian

New(er) tires on the Toyota
I found a set of 33's on Pirate4x4 for $50. Local, so I couldnt pass em up. My brother-in-law is in town with my sister so I decided to take the day off, get my new tires mounted and take him to the local ORV park with a jeepin buddy of mine and tool around. Great fun was had! These 33's sure do float over rocks alot better than my old 29's ever did. Now I just have to work on my gearing in order to save my clutch! -Brian
