Reno-Tahoe Wrenchfest...
Yup, i know all too well. I once drove the 2 hour trip from Sacramento to Reno on a sunday to find the Sparks location was closed. Then drove from Sparks to Carson City to find they were also closed. Then drove another 2 hours home. But me and NV Zeno did have a decent lunch in Tahoe that day... guess the trip wasnt an entire waste of time. Looks like you already grabbed the part I was after (your LSD thread in the Gen. Forum). But I gotta head up to Jibs house and grab some stuff... also wanna help him with his new project. Just gotta wait until one of my vehicles is up for the trip: Legacy: Needs new tires BAD Truck: No tags, not a comfortable drive for 2 hours '78 Wagon: Doesnt run quite right, no way I can trust it to get me there and back. -Brian

A day spent with the Legacy (new exhaust and car wash)
I feel lately I have been neglecting my Turbo Legacy, so this morning when I woke up, I decided to spend the day with it. I got a cat-back exhaust from a buddy of mine. Aparently it came from a WRX or a STi or something... its just a straight pipe with a tip on it. But it sounds better than the stock muffler. So I installed it, then decided to wash the crud off my Legacy. Looks so much better, however removing the dirt and grime revealed all the flaws in my paint and all the scratches and dents Ive forgotten about. Regardless, here's some pictures The New Exhaust I took the digital camcorder out and recorded it leaving the driveway and passing the house. I edited the clips together so you guys could hear the new exhaust: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KItyJur07c Alittle loud. Kinda sounds like the car has a massive exhaust leak, but I like it better than the grandma exhaust it had on it before. -Brian

Trans and Diff Fluid.... What Kind
how much fluid is needed???

Trans and Diff Fluid.... What Kind
it was LSD additive. I read carefully to make sure it was compatible with the gear oil i was using. -Brian

rear diff question
Damn seems like LSD's grow up there in Carson City. I myself have pulled 2 from that yard, and a buddy of mine has gotten 3 or 4 from that yard. Now there's another??? You better get it this weekend or I might have to drive up there and snatch it Oh yeah, and the rear diff will match all EA series subaru rear diffs, as far as CV's are concerned. Just the 3.7 that sucks cause most EA subaru's are 3.9. -Brian

Trans and Diff Fluid.... What Kind
I didnt do any transmission oil on my RX, but i did flush the LSD in it. And I used Castrol 85/90wt gear oil with LSD addative. Its extremly important you use gear oil that is for LSD differentials. I bought the addative because I couldnt find LSD specific oil, and the addative was all i could find. -Brian

Photo Shoot!!!!!! :)
Dude your license plate is 420 WUS THATS FREAKIN AWESOME!!! -Brian

CV Axles?
If your GL10 is a turbo (which it most likely is) then they will be different than the GL, if the GL is non-turbo (which it most likely is). -Brian

LSD or Not
Yes, all RX's came with LSD. Unless someone swiped yours, it has it. -Brian

LSD or Not
Or there will be a big LSD marked on the rear tag with the diff ration. -Brian

Weber on the 1600.
Im pretty sure the 32/36 Im getting has the electric choke, and will be tuned for a EA81. Its comming from Cameron in Australia. -Brian

Hello and what do you think of my 79?
Did they mention why they went from the 5 lug to the 4 lug pattern?

Hello and what do you think of my 79?
Ah, 136mm... i knew it was close. -Brian

Ea81t as core for n/a rebuild
Well that could be ANY EA81 LOL The solid lifter and hydraulic lifter motors are no different in terms of reliability and economy. I think you'll be happy with any rebuilt EA81. -Brian

Weber on the 1600.
Thats another thing i was curious about. Will the 32/36 be too much carburator for the 1600? -Brian

EA82 5spd into a '78 Wagon?
Good idea stumpy but i think the overall size is larger and moving it forward wouldnt help, unless i moved it forward the length of the tranny If I do tackle the problem, i think cutting the tunnel and replacing with a EA82 would be the easiest way to do it. That way I could custom fab the tranny x-member as well. -Brian

Ea81t as core for n/a rebuild
You could use that block just fine, as long as you replaced the pistons with N/A pistons. I think the EA82's have the same stroke and bore as the EA81, so it maybe possible to use EA82 pistons as well. The heads are different, and the pistons are different. The intake manifold is also different. If you get the motor and want to get rid of the heads, let me know. I have been looking for a set of (uncracked!!) heads for a long time. If you were closer, i would have a EA81 for you... got one in the garage unused and could use a fresh build. However, Sacramento is alittle far to go to just trade motors. -Brian

Weber on the 1600.
So... instead of stuffin a EA81 into the car and doin the weber swap to it... how about I just put the weber straight onto the 1600? Anyone here running a Weber 32/36 on their EA71? I havent taken a look at the carburator on mine, but I dont think it has the same bolt pattern as the 2BBL Hitachi's. If I dont have the adapter for a EA71, can I bolt a EA81 manifold to my 1600? -Brian

Hello and what do you think of my 79?
I think i heard something that the Subaru WRC car used 4x140 4 lug BBS rims, like those pictured in his Photoshop. If that is the case, good luck scoring them for $500. Good luck even finding a set cause im sure they are special made just for Subaru to use in their WRC cars. That Brat looks like its in real good condition. Too bad someone put that horrid decal on the side. I like your idea better, but because the decal is larger and kinda uniform to the Brat itself. The rollbars still exist and can be found. Keep an eye open or post in the wanted section of this board. Depending on what side of the country you live on, determines your ease of locating one and the condition it is in. ALthough they are everywhere. -Brian

EA82 5spd into a '78 Wagon?
Was thinking that as well. Could run a 4spd with like 4.11's in the rear and forget the front (RWD). But i still think a 5spd RWD Wagon would be way cool. -Brian

Brought the RX home today...
Wierd, sounds like the switch is wired wrong or there is a short somewhere. I do not advise driving the car with the diff lock on. That locks the center diff 50/50 front and rear, and you will cause damage to the diff or the transmission. Its like driving an old school subaru in 4WD on pavement. Not a good idea.

Brought the RX home today...
Here is the dash on my old '87 RX: Above the "LO" light is a 4WD label, but that never lights up. -Brian

Brought the RX home today...
4WD Light wont light up, its always in 4WD. There is a LO light that will light up when you are in low range. On my RX, the DIFF LOCK light would flicker all the time, but whenever I had the diff lock enganged the light would stay solid and bright. -Brian

Brought the RX home today...
Man that is such an awesome car, i sure do miss mine Those motors are easy to rebuild. You will have fun with it. -Brian

Is the S/R 4wd on my 94 Loyale capable of driving on pavement?
I do not believe the transmission has an oil filter on it. And the rear diff plug should have a square input for a standard 1/2 ratchet or breaker bar. I usually use a breaker bar because they have more leverage. -Brian
