How to Adjust Idle Speed
TheSubaruJunkie replied to 2K4 STI's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah a pic would be 1000 words in this case. The screw your looking for doesnt really look like a screw at all. Its not apart of the throttle body linkages like a normal idle adjust screw would be. If you look down at the intake manifold, what your looking for is a flat tip head that is threaded into the intake manifold itself (been so long, i cant remember exactly where). Anyhow, with the car running if you give it a 1/4 turn counterclockwise the engines idle speed should react immediatly. -Brian -
Reno-Tahoe Wrenchfest...

I finally got some decent tires on the Legacy. I gotta come up to see Jibs to grab some parts. But I hear he works weekends? -Brian -
I dont care what Wikipedia has to say about it. Im still going to refer to it as predetonation. -Brian

The only thing about that buggy that isnt Subaru is the Tubing and the Wheels. I dont see why it would be moved? -Brian
-
Yeah it worked out quite well. Turbohoses.com sells the silicone couplers, and I bought two 180 degree mandrel bent U bends in 2 3/8" inside diameter, then cut them both in half to give me four 90 degree bends. The brackets were just angle and strap I got from Home Depot. The hardest part was adapting the turbo outlet which is 1 3/4" outside diameter i believe. Sure wish the intercooler install on my Legacy was that neat and easy -Brian
-
Definatly if you are running a high comp block, get an intercooler! The Saab 900 IC is almost a direct bolt in: The inlet and outlet are both 2 3/8" outside diameter, which is the same size as the intake manifolds outside diameter. The difference with and without are night and day. -Brian

question on trans.
TheSubaruJunkie replied to dragonfire's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Should be no difference between the two. -Brian -
Wow this is kinda shocking. I know tony, he built bumpers and racks for me and i never had any trouble. I've met him a few times and he's a standup guy. I havent talked to him in a while, didnt even know he was still in the fabricating business. Im sure you will get your other $400 back. If I lived any closer, i'd be happy to help you, just so this would be settled and clear his name. Did you do the transaction over e-mail or what? As far as I know, he hasnt even been an active member in months. -Brian

Just installed a ...Stuck Turbo???
TheSubaruJunkie replied to Joey Joe's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Take your downpipe off, and grab the turbine. See if there is any free play in the shaft at all. Move it in and out, up and down. The thing should be rock solid. If its not, the turbo is bad. Do you have a boost gauge? Dont rely on the turbo light... i'd get a gauge. -Brian -
Noob here just saying hi.
TheSubaruJunkie replied to turbo-baron's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
That turbo Legacy is beautiful. Welcome to the club. The guys over at bbs.legacycentral.org cater to us Turbo Legacy owners. If you get it, you should stop over there and say hi too. -Brian -

Timing belts are simple. I would offer him $900 cash and spend $40 on a ebay timing kit (i think thats what i paid for one). Dont let that thing get parted. -Brian -
Check your timing. I believe I had mine set at 22 degree's in the RX with no problems. Any higher and I got horrible pinging. -Brian
-
It should. If you got a wagon, you'll need to use Wagon struts & springs. If you got a sedan then you gotta use sedan parts. If your Legacy is FWD you need FWD parts, and if yours is AWD you need AWD parts. -Brian

TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
That doesn't mean it wont pass the sniffer. Which is the real hurdle. Of course You can pull one over the eyes of the stupid tech... but, its the computer thats hard to fool. -Brian -

It already doesnt pass smog, so adding a weber will only help keep it idling and running good. I havent figured out how to get tags for it just yet. -Brian -
I used zip ties when I rebuilt my EA82T. -Brian

Nitrous and Turbo EA81T EA82T
TheSubaruJunkie replied to Myxalplyx's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
hey welcome back man. I miss my RX too But I dont miss the EA82T. I replaced the car with a Legacy Turbo wagon and needless to say Im not kicking myself. I have never heard of anyone running Nitrus on their EA series. I have always dreamed of building a EA81 using the EA81T heads, and replacing the fuel injectors with nitrus injectors. -Brian -
