'70 FF1 Coupe JY N/E Calif.
TheSubaruJunkie replied to worknwood's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Steve lets see if i can make room in the garage for a '79 Wagon been thinking alot about it lately. But do i really need another project? If anything, it shouldnt be hard to get it in good enough condition to drive to a potential buyer in the surrounding states. Anyhow, let me know what you find out about the JY up there. Susanville is a couple hour drive, the extraction will take a full day. -Brian -

Wow. worknwood, did you talk to the yard owner about purchasing the car complete? alot of private junk yards in CA arent willing to do the paperwork required to sell a junked car. Whoever is interested, i can assist in recovering the vehicle and getting it down the hill to Sacramento. Just need to find a 3/4 ton pickup and i have access to car trailers at work. This is definatly a car that needs to be restored. -
Sure do... only in the rear but i love mine. Its welded

I woulda liked my smittybuilt better if the prev owner didnt hack it. Ive seen a few of them on craigslist for under $100 and was thinking of getting another to replace the old one. But then i bought steel and decided to come up with my own bumper. When i can afford it, i wanna buy another 40' of steel and finish the cage. Right now, the toyota is on hold while I get some stuff for the Legacy (GR2's, Tires, brakes). Next up for the Yota will be the 4.7:1 transfercase gears. -Brian

Trademe NZ $1 GSR!!!
TheSubaruJunkie replied to cubastreet's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
IT'S NOT FAIR!!! Just wanted to get that off my chest That thing is awesome. I think that is enough to make me want to move to NZ. -Brian -
Your boost light is ran off of manifold pressure. There is a switch on the passenger fender, with a vaccum line running to it, and a couple wires leading away. When the manifold reaches positive pressure, the light comes on. So, it only comes on while making boost. Its a good spot to plumb a boost gauge into. This is where I mounted my gauge in my RX:

Hey Danny, whatsup!? We hung out at the WCSS when you were there. I sold my RX and bought a toyota, so dont feel bad. Except, i sold my RX to buy a Legacy Turbo... then later I bought the toyota So im not a complete traitor like you That hatchback looks great and all.. but i wouldnt pay $3000 for it. If you are looking for a daily driver, you may want to look elsewhere. But if you wanna tool around in the woods, it would work. I think $1700 is a more fair asking price.

'74 - '75 2 door coupes?
TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
76 is out of the date range anyway. I'd have to restore to spec. I want something I can toss a built EA81 into. -
Subarus, bigger/heavier.... QUICK STOP... NO?
TheSubaruJunkie replied to Knichol's topic in Off Road
EA82's have a larger front disc than EA81's. IF you have an older EA81 with solid rotors, you can convert to slotted rotors. Other than that, there's not many options out there. -Brian -

Hey guys. Ive been out of the loop for some time, and my Subaru Knowledge seems to be diminishing. I've been dreamin of Gen1 2 door coupes, and I think im going to set out and find me one. Being in CA, if I can find something from '74 - '75 it will be smog excempt and my efforts in restoring (modifying) will be alot easier. But... did they offer the 2dr in '74-75? Can anyone post up some pix? thanks guys, -Brian

MikeW used a radiator for a porsche when he mounted it above his engine. I cant remember which porsche model it came from, but from the factory thats how they are used. The filler was at a 90 degree angle pointed up, and the hose routing was designed for a horizontal installation. That buggy looks real sweet. I bet if you did that with a EA82 Turbo model, that thing would flat out COOK! -Brian

If you want to haul stuff, you cant beat the Toyota. When I was in the market, i was torn between the Sami & a yota. Both have solid axles, both have plenty of aftermarket parts available... but the deciding factor was the 'yota is a TRUCK. I can throw a weekends worth of gear in the back, or if I want I can tow a trailer or boat (albeit a small boat). The 2.4 in the Toy will have plenty of power for anything. And the Mods are priced just the same as any sami mod. The Sami has a 1.6 liter, and no cargo room. They are EXTREMLY Capable off-road. I wouldn't doubt a bone stock Sami could out-wheel a bone stock toyota. But go on a camping trip with a buddy with his Samarai and chances are you'll be carrying his gear. Forget about the sidekick/tracker. From what I've seen, they are all IFS and you never see any mods for em. -Brian

cant get the struts out!!!!!
TheSubaruJunkie replied to crazy D's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Struts with the block on them are a pain in the rump roast. You should have removed them when you had the engine crossmember unbolted. Remove the struts from the steering knuckles, lower the engine crossmember. Then unbolt the struts (the blocks from the body) and remove the strut/block as a combo. Remove the block from the strut, re-install the strut minus block. -Brian -
And since im super bored at work: -Brian

These look great. Very high detail, they look alot like the real cars. I was browsing through, and they even have animals. The funny thing is, check out how detailed these are: Kabutogani: http://rocket-craft.com/works_other03.html Dragon: http://rocket-craft.com/works_other07.html Osidori: http://rocket-craft.com/works_other16.html Then look at this Cat: http://rocket-craft.com/works_other05.html Dog: http://rocket-craft.com/works_other06.html I wouldnt mind having a Brat one made. -Brian
