  1. HIt it harder cant break it anymore than you already are gonna.
  2. Yeah it usually takes me a good 5 or 6 whacks to get that thing to break loose. Watch your feet, cause when it does go the cup becomes a missle and the ball bearings are projectiles. Keep at it, and i think you'll get better results by hitting the cup itself and not the inner race -Brian
  3. If you use my method you will break stuff. So, reassembly is not recommended. This is the crude version, i usually do this when im on the trail and broke an axle and have to limp home. -Brian
  4. Hold the CV in your left hand by the shaft. Hold a 10lb mini sledge in your right hand. With the tranny side of the CV pointed up, and the knuckle side pointed down, strike down on the cup hard with the sledge. Repeat until the shaft comes apart from the CV cup. And no, you wont be able to put it back together -Brian p.s. Its a whole lot cleaner if the CV boot is missing and youve cleaned all the grease out of the CV Bearings
  5. If i cant get mine to pass smog i might be forced to turn it into a trailer queen. However, i cant afford a trailer or a tow rig so I better get tags for it -Brian
  6. Yeah my controller is made by Go Fast Bits, but its the same exact thing as shown in that ebay add. Even boxed the same. I only say this cause the problem you are having is the reason I dumped my home depot controller and spent the money on a real one. The real one builds boost alot faster and holds it steady where-as the home depot would run at 7psi sometimes 9psi, and i was affraid it would reach 12+ if I really pushed it. It was also real slow at producing boost. Cant explain why. -Brian
  7. Yeah I saw two off the ground, but I didnt wanna raz him too hard. I still love that hatch, always will
  8. I see a tire off the ground back there
  9. Yeah, i never could do this in the Sube: -Brian
  10. This is what i got: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/OBX-Manual-Boost-Controller-Acura-Integra-RSX-TSX-TL-CL_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33742QQihZ007QQitemZ170117243530QQrdZ1 I still say its your MBC. But what do i know
  11. Thats harder for us up here in Nor-Cal to do. Nevada is close, but their smog is probably just as bad. -Brian
  12. I would have loved to keep both my Lifted Sube and get a Toyota. But it was the death of my 2nd lifted subaru to push me to get the toyota. And then the parts I sold from said Subaru funded the Toyota. Living in California, only about 2% of the trails here are Subaru trails. The other 98% are extreme granite rock covered hills, crevases and slabs. The 2% i spoke of are mostly forest service roads, and its cool and all but its like driving down a dirt road. most trails I'd take the Subaru on I would end up turning around 3/4 the way through. That, and I have 0 off-road Subaru friends near me. My closest off-road Subaru buddies live 2hrs away in Reno Nevada, Jeremy (subieman) and Jibs. Even though I have a blast everytime I go wheeling with them, I cant afford to drive 2hrs each way everytime I want to get my rig dirty. On the other hand, I work with 3 people who have trail rigs. 1 jeeper and 2 toyota's. My parents neigbor is a jeeper, and he has a few friends with Toyota's. The company I work for, our other stores have a handfull of Toyota owners and I just got sick of hearing about their weekend trips while I listen in knowing full well my Subaru could never hang where they go. So The natural progression would be to join them. You know the saying, "if you cant beat them, join them". When an affordable Toyota showed up on craigslist, i did what I had to do to get it and I got it. So... sorry if your sick of the Toyota talk, just remember. We all still have Subarus and much love for em. Its just now, we wont break one when we spend a weekend in the woods -Brian
  13. Sounds to me like you forgot to reconnect a vacuum hose somewhere. Although, if you disconnected the hose to the wastegate, your turbo would be making TOO MUCH boost instead of not enough. Is your car push-button 4WD? -Brian
  14. Good oil. Good PCV system. A carburator that doesnt leak air, and is tuned properly is a sure fire way to pass. The catalytic converter of course is going to help, however I had a 1983 GL Wagon that I spent $300 for a brand new exhaust... cat and everything, and it still did not pass. Even after running a can of that "garanteed to pass" stuff you buy at Kragens.
  15. When I had my RX i also got one of those cheap homedepot built MBC's. The thing didnt work for crap. Boost was all over the place, and was extremly difficult to fine tune. I think i installed it and took it off the next day. I found a MBC on ebay from GoFastBits and this thing is SWEET. Same concept, just made with good parts and machined, not made from brass fittings. Ive never had a problem with boost spikes or fluctuation. I sold the RX but kept the MBC and soon it will be on my Legacy Turbo. I say get rid of the cheap crap, and buy a real MBC. Do you want a $4 MBC to cost you $200 in gaskets and pistons? -Brian
  16. Your county's smog is probably alittle more laid back. Depending on how far from the bay you are. Regardless, i dont expect that brat to pass with flying colors, but its been known to happen.
  17. I have yet to succesfully smog any EA81 here in Sacramento. OUr smog laws in the capitol city are kinda strict, not sure if they are as bad where you are. But it sure does suck, ive had to retire plenty of subaru's because i didnt want to soak money into getting them past smog. As far as bringing it out of state, it doesnt really matter where it comes from. Doesnt matter if it has CA emissions controls either. It just has to pass the visual and the sniffer. Good Luck, -Brian
  18. The dieseling can be solved if you buy the fuel shutoff solenoid. Cant remember the part number, i believe Mick has gotten it. The timing may help as well, but it is not the cause. Also, a fuel pressure regulator may help things as well. I believe the Weber only requires 3.5psi of fuel pressure. -Brian
  19. Yotatech is a cool place, but it reminds me alittle like Nasioc in their layout. THey have forums for EVERYTHING, and it seems no one posts much in any forum. ALthough the guys at yotatech are far nicer than Pirate. -Brian
  20. I wish i knew ken. The truck is as it was when i bought it, and I still dont know much about what it has. I do know the rear end is locked up, most likely welded. It probably looks like alot of drop cause of the lift and small tires. Mods I have in mind are front ARB, onboard air, hysteer conversion, and rear chevy springs. Just like always, money is the deciding factor with all my projects and we all know these things arent as cheap as subarus to modify. -Brian
  21. Just recently did I decided to give up on the Subaru and move to something alittle more capable. Found this on craigslist and couldnt resist. After the 1st trip, im sold!!
  22. Here are all the ones I have hosted on You Tube. And here is one I made of me and my buddy with our Toyota's playin on some rocks: -Brian
  23. HAHAHA Thanks This time I will be in the Legacy so there will be no mudpit action for me. Looks like the boss just aproved my vacation request, however I could only get the Friday and the Monday off. So looks like Im going to be driving all night and day to make it there and back. -Brian
  24. ARGH!! Its so hard to go with gas being $3.59 a gallon. But this venue is such a great place I dont know if I can pass it up. Would really like to see some of those familiar faces i only get to see once a year. -Brian
