  1. definatly go ahead and replace your rear main while your doing the clutch since its only like 6 more bolts from where you are gonna be at for the clutch. i had to change my flywheel and clutch stuff to the motor i had dropped in a month ago, and after a little submerging in a mudd puddle my rear seal is now pissing out oil. even if it looks good do it anyways. i thought mine looked real good and found out i was wrong. i would say to prob get the front tranny seal while you are at it. i know thats what im gonna be doing since ill have my motor out
  2. ok first off i did actually do a search this time before i posted(im so proud of myself lol) i found this thread on camber adjustment http://http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=16098&highlight=camber+adjustment not sure if that link worked or not, hopefully it did. now i might just be a little too numb to understand it right now or maybe i might a little. its saying to adjust the camber you would crank on the nut in the middle top of the strut, am i correct on this? if so what way would i probably need to turn it to get it so the bottom of my tires arent leaning in? and i will admit i may have missed where it said it which way. any help would be appreciated.
  3. not meaning to hyjack this thread but exactly where is that skinny hose supposed to connect to?
  4. might be a difference, basically after i took off my hitch i had about 5 inches of clearance from the top of my tire to the wheelwell with the stock tire size
  5. man all the way on page 3 lol. i take it nobody has measured before and after they adjust their suspension? took my hitch off yesterday afternoon and noticed a decent difference in height, adjusted my front up a bit as well
  6. when you say the owner had the tires at 40 psi what were they rated at? the ones on my soob are rated for 44 psi max. welcome to the soob madness lol you can have alot of fun with these at stock height, but from what i have seen even more fun if you lift them.
  7. im curious what is the actual difference in height people get adjusting them from the first notch to the last notch?? i went ahead and adjusted my coilovers today and i had almost a 2 1/2 inch difference in height, and that was with my 50 lb class 3 hitch bolted on the back as well. the crappy haynes manual says at most its only gonne be like 1 5/8 inches i think. and btw i learned that it is very simple to do if you leave the shocks on the car, i just hooked my strut compresser in there at the best angle i could and tightened them up and did the twisting crap. had both tires done and back on the ground in a 1/2 hour at most.
  8. looks nice with the outer area like that, mine were crappy silver when i got the car just painted mine all gloss black though, your way looks much smoother
  9. well im gonna go up to my storage area tomorrow and get it so i can double check it, but like i said b4 i never had a single prob with it, and i did alot of jumpstarting with it since i had a car with a battery that kept going dead. but ill look tomorrow to be posative about which 1 i got, i know the fins are the same on that 2nd 1. i may not technically have either of them
  10. thanks for the great links guys! sorry to bring up an old topic, da$% i need to learn to use that search button!!! lol i double checked at the astro site and its a 105a output on it so when im ready to add some lights and whatnot that should be more than enough power
  11. lol it figures i left my bad axles in my 87 when i had it hauled off, why couldnt you have posted this a cpl weeks ago lol
  12. the brackets on the first one look the same but the, overall style of the 2nd 1 except for the bracket is closer to what i have. i never had a problem with the alt working after i got it muddy and believe me it got muddy lol my engine bay usually stayed muddy. my astro was my last mud runner dustyrider ty for the link im gonna check it out after i do this post
  13. ive seen a few of you guys say in your sigs that you are running gm alts, im kinda curious about doing this since i still have the one i pulled off my astro, and it was only 6 months old when i pulled it off. it came from an astro with all the power goodies so i imagine it is fairly high output. im curious what kinda mods do you have to do to make it fit. since i had been stripping my astro i have all the plugins for it as well, i know i will need to change the pulley over to a v-belt 1. but other than that what mods do you have to do? if you got any pics it would be appreciated. ill have to double check but im pretty sure my alt has an internal cutoff(or whatever the voltage control part is) but ill double check to be sure.
  14. im just curious how did you hold on the front wheel without the axle in it???. i know when i pulled out my axles out there didnt seem to be anything there to hold the hub to the spindle, is there something different on different years or what?
  15. its downloading fine for me, since i can only connect at 24k out here in the boonies it might be done downloading by tomorrow lol
  16. ok today i got all four wheels up off the ground today put it in 4 wd and then 2wd had the wifey put it in third and give it some gas, about up to 3k rpm's and i will be damned if i can see anything wrong on it!!! about the only thing i noticed is if i put my ear up to the front drivers side wheel i could hear a little scraping kinda sound. now when i drove it after that i noticed that when i took a really sharp left turn it would do a clunk-clunk-clunk noise, and i had looked at the axles when the car was up and in gear and couldnt see any movement in them other than the normal movement. this whole damn thing is starting to get me really frustrated. oh btw when i had it up on the front wheels the drivers side would turn but the pass side was doing very little movement unless i held onto the drivers side tire, but both the back ones were spinning, it this normal??
  17. lol turbone, well me and the family took it up a trail up star mountian yesterday evening, made it about 3/4 of the way up before it started to run hot so we turned around and decided to try it again this weekend i did notice that after i got back to the tar i can feel the front end wobbling again, not quite like before but its still wobbleing, and i really need to get my rear main replaced, i know i shoulda done it when i put the motor in but it looked almost new. oh well eventually i will get this damn thing figured out, and i did check the axles, there was a tiny bit of movement right whare it connects to the tranny on the drivers side but thats it. im curious is the front axle the same for an 85 d/r 5 spd as a 87 auto 4wd? since those are the ones im running on it right now.
  18. well it turned out being notings real serious, i guess when i put the axles in a cpl weeks i forgot to tighten a bolt or 2. well here is what it was: the main problem was apparently the strut mounting bolt was loose on the spindle, as soon as i jacked it up and yanked on the wheel i seen it. i was also missing the bolt in front that helps hold the strut on. a couple other things i noticed was that my bolt for my caliper was missing and i was missing 1 of my hub bolts, i just pulled the bolts off of my parts that i have kicking around and now it drives great again. feels much better offroading as well, thatnks for all the advice guys. you know this would make one of those great diagnose the problem threads lol
  19. not yet 85sub my lazy butt slept in this morning fixing to go out in a few minutes and get started on it, will post it up when i figure out the prob.
  20. actually i still have the spindle from my 87 with a newer set of bearings in it i may just switch the whole spondle on if i cant find anything else wrong with it. im gonna check it out real good tomorrow to see if i can figure it out. and i noticed the last time i drove it, that its getting worse and, now its starting to wobble again. whejn i figure out something ill let you guys know, and thanks for the advice so far ill check all the stuff out. the balljoint didnt have play when i checked it out a few weeks ago but it also wasnt making these noises then so ill check that out again tomorrow. any other suggestions?? ill check this thread in the morning before i go out to work on the car.
  21. ok now its making a different noise its doing the others still but i noticed on a sharp corner like turning around it does that funky tire sound and a clicking type of sound, but its not an axle clicking sound its something else, btw i havent had a chance yet to grease the bearings
  22. hey subiemech ive done that 1 quite a few times while offroading i believe most engines need a redline every now and then if nothing else to clear the crap outta it lol
  23. no i didnt change the bearing when i changed the axles. i can try to tighten it a little more but i dont think its gonna go much tighter. im gonna grease the hell outta the bearings today and see if that helps any
  24. no its not the indicators the pads still have 3/4 or more of the material on them, and that sound isnt a constant i only hear that sound when im cornering
