yesterday i noticed a scueaking kinda sound coming from my front dr side wheel. it kinda sounds liek the sound a tire will make iif you are driving with it worn down to the point the steel belts are showing. i also noticed that when im cornering i can hear a something that sounds like the the rotor is rubbing on the brake . now i just put in newer axles on both sides bout a month ago and i just had to snug up the axle a little bit yesterday because i was noticing it was wobbling a little bit, now the wobbling stopped but now its making the noise. i know the noise seems real bad if im on a steeper incline sideways with the drivers side as the low side. does anybody have a clue what this might be from??? forgot to mention my tires all have over 1/2 inch or more of tread on them, but that front tire was flat when i bought the car so does somebody think it might be a steel belt bad inside it

ok thanks torque i really appreciate it -
well the column on my 85 is still in great shape, i had just wanted controls on the steering column, but since apparently it wont fit without swapping a bunch of stuff over i guess its not worth it, especially since the rest of the 87 is probably getting turned into a washer dryer combo lol, well i guess time to take it to the marketplace

ide believe it torxxx, they are not a subaru friendly place around here in trying to find parts. from what i could tell it didnt even look like there was even an o ring there anymore so i dont think im gonna have much to compare to -
thanks for the info pyro sounds like i had the basic idea to it. im gonna try with the brute force by hand way first and if that dont work ill have to try a different way. im gonna try to get it to the 3rd spot because among other things im gonna be putting my class 3 hitch on the soob and that thing alone is gonna be about 50 lbs so i want to have it well compinsated for it

well i got the spring pin out today but couldnt seem to get that connection piece off, after fighting with it for a while i just said screw it and put the stuff back together and for those guys wanting a part# i called every atuo parts place in the area and they all said dealer only, i think when i go to my storage area tomorrow im gonna get my package of orings and see if i can find 1 that will fit well and see if i can stretch it over the other pieces to maybe mostly seal the leak -

hey pyro where would you find that gasket stuff, that sounds like some good stuff to have in a pinch. 84 gl ill let you know how much trouble i have finding the gasket, ill give you a part # when i find it and let you know where i got it. yeah you will want to get it before it gets as bad as mine, mine is pretty much soaking the side of the tranny and also soaking the cat -

hey pyro i was gonna do my front ones as well but i think they may be most of the way already i noticed that my front wheels are tipped in a little bit on the bottom. after your thread on the rear i went and took a look at mine and my rears werent even on the first setting so after i get my cherry picker and tools outta the back after i fix my leaks im gonna crank those all the way up -

yeah its the piece right next to the dipstick. i dont think its cracked im kinda thinking its because the tranny was probably never in 4wd for years and then sat for almost a year before i bought it and then once i got it going i have put it in 4wd many times with offroading and whatnot. i could be wrong but im pretty sure its not cracked -
ok im having some probs getting the linkage piece off of it to put a new gasket in it since its leaking badly. if im not making sense about what im refering to im talking about the piece on the tranny that the 4wd shifter bolts up to. for the life of me i cant seem to get that spring pin out of the piece on the tranny to remove it to get another gasket for it. anybody know how the hell you are supposed to get it out with the wonderous amount of free space we have in out engine bay??? also anybody know a part # on that gasket or exactly what the name of it is?

Too fast fast idle, help please
dragonwingsubaru replied to pyromanic's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
my high idle is the same way as well, my high idle speed is somewhere around 1800 rpm, and this really seems to stay the same no matter what you set the idle at, my slow idle is set all the way down to 500rpm now and it didnt change the high idle at all, and i let mine warm up on high idle on the really cold days for a cpl of minutes before i idle it down -
yeah i didnt know what to think either i would have firgured better fuel flow would make the idle higher not lower,, but i got 1 of those carbs with no air, fuel setting screw, so maybe it electronically reset the fuel flow or something and brought it down. i had changed the whole fireing system, cap, rotor, plugs and wires, i have a feeling that my miss is because the rear plug hole on the dr side was crossthreaded and i was only able to get the plug in about 90% of the way. need to dig around for my tap and die set and rethread the hole im thinking it will probably get rid of that miss.

adjust rear strutts up one notch?
dragonwingsubaru replied to pyromanic's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
pyromaniac what i mean by that stuff is shaved emblems means remove all emblems and fill in what needs to be filled and made smooth. and on the custom split hood i mean to basically cut it in half and have both halves open to a different side, if you are haveing trouble visualizing it look at the need for speed underground 2 game at the split hood section its gonna be the one that splits to the dr and pass side. dont worry about understanding the stuff yet it took me a long time to understand stuff, but i will admit i still have alot to learn!! these forums are a great place to learn, there is always a few gurus in every forum that can help you learn stuff. -
the way i had my idle set it was idleing about 750 rpm's after i finally decided to get around to replaceing the fuel filter it dropped all the way down to 450 to 500 rpm's not that im complaining but is this normal? i noticed on the hood info sticker it said the idle was supposed to be 700 rpm's now if i can get rid of this damn miss i got it will be running real smooth

adjust rear strutts up one notch?
dragonwingsubaru replied to pyromanic's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
thanks for the info ross, ill take another look at mine today to see if i can adjust them at all. i know that the suspension stuff like the struts and coilovers look completely different from the ones that i pulled off my 87 -
help me pick some wussed out tires please
dragonwingsubaru replied to archemitis's topic in Off Road
forgot to mention before i ran one set of at's a while back that were tough as hell. ill have to dig through my old pics to see the name of them for sure, but i think they were plainsman rt's, they have almost the same exact tread pattern as the bfg's. when i ran them on my lifted astrovan they lasted at least 3 times longer than the bfg's did -

dont mean to sound stupid but how the hell do you adjust the rear coilovers?, ok just noticed that you had said struts or these things supposed to have struts in the rear? ive seen paople mention a few times how the 85 suspension is adjustable but ill be damned if i can figure out how to do it!!
