  1. CHEAP!!!!! I am on my 4th EA82 Wagon.. total invesment so far(cars and all the parts I havbought) less than $1000:D
  2. I have both.. a never been used donut under the hood and a mildly used 14 inch pug on the roof.. you can never be too careful:D
  3. Thanks! Pssstt.. Rob...the Turbo 4EAT uses 25 spline... hehe
  4. The different connectors can easily be changed.. only takes a couple of minutes.. Not sure about the advance, but I am guessing through use of different distys that they are all the same. In my experience, the 87 uses the clips, and the 88 and up uses the screw on type cap.
  5. Taller tires = ground clearance.. Thats what I prefer, unless you want the car lower..
  6. Not to upstage rob, who definitely knows his stuff, but..... Being an auto 3 speed, the axles are 23 spline(sorry rob, been there, done that) about the tranny.. I have the factory service manual for the 88(same info for the insides of an 86 trans) I don't recommend tearing into the tranny.. special tools needed.. more labor intensive than switching to a manual in my opinion. It would be best to find another 3AT auto to replace it with.. I know where there is one around here that could be had fairly cheap, but I'm all the way in Texas.. If you do decide to swap the tranny for a manual, you would be better off finding a D/R from an 85 or newer.. the 84 is a 4 speed, the 85 is a 5 speed.. and the 84, being an EA81 tranny, would probably require a combination of EA81 and EA82 clutch/flywheel parts to make it work. I recently did the 4WD auto to 4WD manual conversion on an 87 GL-10 Turbo..can give you more tips if you like. Oh yeah, the ratio on the 3AT is 3.7, the ratio on the D/R (non RX) is 3.9 Hope this helps.
  7. The tumblers are as strong as any other cheap little japanese car.. they won't just roll over with any generic key.. However, give me a slim jim and about 30 seconds....(yeah, I know, I'm slow.. a little out of prcatice ) .. One picks up all kinds of neat tricks when one has worked at a wrecking yard
  8. I am familiar with that noise.. my 87 Twagon disty made a noise like that.. I never remembered it doing that before the motor was out either... shortly thereafter, the ignition module in the dist died(probably unrelated) and I pulled it out and stuck my 88 disty in there.. noise gone.. BTW any EA82 CAS disty will work.. it doesn't have to be from a turbo.. 87 has a different wiring pigtail than the 88 and up, but they just unplug from the disty.. total swap time on mine, with wiring change was about 10 minutes.
  9. Your best bet would be to move to the NorthWest, where soobs are plentiful!
  10. if you want front lsd, it would have to be custom made. rear lsd, find a FT4WD 5spd XT6 and pull the 3.9 lsd out and bolt it into your wagon, or find a 3.7 out of an RX ot FT4wd GL-10 and follow the instructions in the USRM to make it a 3.9.. or get a VLSD from a turbo legacy
  11. Mike, that film doesn't happen if you actually wash your car every once in a while
  12. Every FT4WD 5 speed I have ever seen has come with an LSD.. I have heard of one or 2 that didn't, but never seen one personally.
  13. Mine did that when the windshield was only a little wet.. it would stop when the rain really started coming down.. I found that putting a little rainX on there helped the problem quite a lot. Being a washington native(up until about 7 months ago, I lived about 20 minutes from you), I am a firm believer in the powers of RainX:D
  14. To add to skips post, The vacuum lines for the 4WD solenoids and the heater controls both come from the same source. the white canister thingy on the passenger side firewall.
  15. GD-- I recently assisted in a motor install in an 88 GL-10 FT4WD with locking diff and LSD.. factory.. 89 is not the only year. Edit: Meeky is right about the XT6 3.9 LSD.. forgot about that one.
  16. Unless someone changed it, you don't have an LSD. LSDs in EA82 cars are 3.70, they come from RXs and GL-10s with FT4wd(manual) best way to get one is from someone on the board or at a junkyard. Inorder to use one, you will have to change your tranny or change the LSD to a 3.90. Somw legacies had a 3.9 VLSD that is a straight swap
  17. Your car is a mutt! No, seriously , its a GL-10 And GD, I know that what I said was EA82 specific.. it even says so in the first line of my second post... For the most part, I dislike EA81 cars, so most of my efforts have been put toward EA82 cars.
  18. Preface: Everything I know applies to later model (EA82) GL-10s only That being said, I just wanted to point out a few things on Skips Fairly complete list. Not All GL-10s had black door handles. That was 4WD only. 2WD GL-10 only had front mudflaps Many 4WD GL-10s only had rear mudflaps Some Later models(87-up) were SPFI Of the 8 I have seen(3 of which were mine) only one had the rear swaybar(my current one).. one was 86, 7 were 87-up So as you can see, many of the GL-10 'options' were variable.
  19. Theres tons of little things that are different.. its a trim package.. nicer seats, digidash.. the 4wd ones had black doorhandles and stuff.. A lot (not all) of them were turbos..Rear headrests.. trip computer.. some were 2wd, some were 4wd.. There was a really long detailed thread about this a while back.. you might be able to find it with a search
  20. Only if they came from a non turbo car.. we all know the rx D/R is 25 spline.. Also, my PB S/R 5spd is 25 spline.. its from a turbo car..
  21. He followed that up with an ER27.. even better
  22. I have never had that happen with any of my wagons.. Never heard of it being common.. you might post your question on the old Gen board where there are more GL/Loyale drivers.. It does sound a bit like moisture in the fluid.
  23. I have heard the same thing. Very common for use in legacies in Japan and Oz.. thus easy availability
  24. LOL! I saw that, but thought i would cut you some slack this time:lol:
  25. I have extra grounds running to the engine and the chassis.. It was very helpful in keeping my digidash under control .. this is on my 87 GL-10 Turbo
