Best year wagon to look for
For an all around car with capability to get to some of those hard to reach camp spots, my 87 turbowagon has been great. Its only single range 4wd, but I also have 14 inch wheels with slightly larger than stock tires for a couple of inches extra ground clearance. Its not a hardcore wheeler by any means, but it does everything from grocery shopping to camping and everything in between quite well. BTW .. I really want dual range too

high rev
...And sometimes the bearings go to hell just from starting the motor up..Sorry snotrocket.. couldn't resist.

Fuel pump problem
Here Ya Go There are 2 relays located above the ECU just to the left of the steering colum. One is for the ignition, one if for the fuel pump. They both look like the relay in the above pic.

Dyno Day, serious numbers, real proof, real pictures.
I have been trying to get a Euro ECU from marnix for over a year.. lucky bastard... But, then again, I couldn't go to Germany to get it.

high rev
NorthGuy.. You obviously don't have a Turbo:lol: Mine doesn't do much past 6500.. runs out of breath.. with the stock air intake, it would run out about 5800. Shifting at 5500-5800 gives me pretty good reponse. How high you can safely rev a stock EA82T really depends a lot on the condition of the motor.. remember.. these things are 15+ years old.. too much, too often will spell disaster.. its only a matter of time.

Fuel pump problem
The fuel pump relay and the ignition relay are directly above the ECU. Loosen the 3 nuts that hold the ECU. Its not necessary to remove them. Then drop the ECU down . Right above the left hand side of the ECU is where they will be located. If you aren't sure what the look like, I will take a pic of one tomorrow and post it.

2005 Outbacks to be Light Trucks
calebz replied to RodA2003's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXALl they have to do is bring out a hybrid to balance out the fleet MPG average, and the OB can go back to being a car.

'04 Impreza Gearbox
calebz replied to impreza555's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAs has been said.. with first, its like that for a reason. With reverse, grinding or clunking is common on a lot of cars.. even brand new ones.. A habit I picked up from one of my Saab owners manuals was to put it in second then put it in reverse.. works every time with every car I have had since that first saab 10 years ago.

???power
On an SPFI car? More air in .. more air out. Better intake.. better exhaust. For offroading, look in the photos section. More more specific info, do a quick search. theres tons of info here about the questions you are asking.

update 86 turbo xt mods
In dj's defense, its an 86.. bypassing the overboost control is easy on 85-86 turbo cars.. its 87 and up that are troublesome.

calebz replied to JonOfScio's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI doubt it.. Your best bet wyould be to get a front cut so you have all the wiring.

EA82 engine specs
That must Hurt!!

87 RX quit running
it would be the driver side, thats the one that turns the disty, just turn the motor over.. if the rotor doesn't turn, the belt is broken To check the passenger side, just pull a couple of the cover bolts out and either peek in or stick a couple of fingers in there and feel for slack
-
Ground wire
I have 4 extra smaller grounds coming off the bat to various places on the engine and body.. it stops the digidash from weirding out when the car is under electrical load(lights, heater and stuff all at the same time.)

gas mileage questions
That sounds like a vacuum leak. Have you checked for error codes? The surging could be caused by the EGR solenoid.. notorious for going out. Have you checked for old cracked hoses? Pulled your plugs to check for signs of running lean?

gas mileage questions
Thats about all I ever got out of my 3AT turboWagon.. that combo of turbo and slushbox is terrible for gas mileage. If you want your mileage to go up, drive like an old lady.. don't engage the turbo.. if you want it to go up higher, slap in a 5 speed.. thats what I did.

continuation of my emissions removal
I'm with Jon.. Carbs are bad...

87 RX quit running
Is the rotor turning when you crank it? sounds suspiciously like a broken timing belt. Pull the distributor cap and make sure the rotor is turning.. if its not, make sure the little screw hasn't fallen out of it.. if thats still there.. and it isn't turning, you broke the drivers side timing belt. not the end of the world.. you live in subaru land. lots of people in your area that would probably help you learn how to replace a timing belt.
