  1. Rear discs make a big difference. Swapped them onto the '85 BRAT years back as those drums were shot, adjusters siezed up, what have you. Much, better braking....
  2. The vacuum supply for the 4WD shift solenoids does come from the same line that supplies the heater controls. There should be a "Tee" fitting in the vac hose coming from the manifold, and it's close to the White canister mounted on the PS strut tower. Hose comes off "Tee" goes to a checkvalve then to a hard plastic line running under the leading edge of the hood opening. Then more hose to the solenoids mounted on the DS strut tower. Recently pulled all of that stuff from a '92 to install in my '88 for the center diff lock on the FT4WD trans.
  3. You won't find exact matches to what you need in Stainless, but you can get close.
  4. One of your pics from post 242. Maybe you can see how it all mounted using your method of pic blow-up.
  5. Choke should be fully open on a warm engine. It really should be full open before engine reaches operating temp. I can't give you an exact temp or time on that though. Disty timing could have an effect on your bog. Play around some with the base timing. Stock is 8*BTDC, but you can run with more advance with the Weber. I've had the same Weber setup on 3 different engines, all of which liked a different timing setting. Does the vacuum advance unit on your disty work properly? Accelerator pump could cause a bog also. May have to adjust it's linkage.
  6. That's the silencer for the Air Suction Valve, (ASV). They'll start melting when the reeds in the ASV's break, allowing exhaust to pass thru them, melting the silencers. With the Weber swap, all of that can be removed. Follow the hoses from the Silencers, you'll find the ASV's. Then there's metal piping that goes down to the exhaust. If you can get the nuts loose that holds the metal tubing to spacer, remove the tubing. Then cut it just past the nut, flatten it, then weld the end, re-install nut. Then you can remove all of the associated other parts. Link to pic of welded tubing, http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/319353_284760298207865_100000216909175
  7. Thanks for the offer of assistance... But I wouldn't be able to do anything to it when you're here. It would take about 3 months to get it un-buried.
  8. Nice collection of Subarus.......
  9. New rockers are looking awesome. Got an '82 BRAT here what could use your skills at rocker replacement. I can do it, just need the time. Yeah,,,,, right.......
  10. Not to sure about the Wing, but it's looking good otherwise. How many Subaru's do you own? This is the 3rd one you've posted about.
  11. No luck this past week getting with Glen about the windshield, he hasn't been in the shop when I stopped in. Will try this coming week. Started it up yesterday to jump-start my riding mower. That thing is really begining to irritate that crap out of me with it's "No,, I don't want to crank over today" crap. Anyways, after getting mower started, and taking care of the jumper cables, Christopher asked if he could drive the Wagon around the yard, told him to do so. Probally put a whole whopping mile on it doing so, but it needed some kind of trip put on it to get the rear diff lube circulated around. Did hear a light scraping noise from DS rear as he drove past me to park it. Could just be rust on the rotor, maybe the dustshield is rubbing. Have to look at it. But he did have a big on his face after getting out of it. Said it took a bit to get used to the short throw of the shifter, but it felt good. Whole lot different than driving/shifting the BRAT. Well DUH!!!! Only thing under this Wagon body that isn't from the XT6 is the EA81 engine. So it had better feel way different.......

That hose goes to the idle-up diaphram on the manifold, near the throttle linkage. Has a "L" shaped rod that would pull the linkage back some to increase idle speed for when the A/C kicks on. Looks like you have eliminated your A/C, so it's not needed now.
  13. Nice XT6... I'm so wanting another one. Diff Lock is for the diff in the transmition, not the rear diff. Do not drive it on pavement with it locked. Loose stuff only..... I'll have to dig around, but may have a power antenna here, somewhere.... http://www.subaruxt.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=5680 Lot's of usefull info in the link, including a downloadable FSM.
  14. Well, I believe I could do more with that hood than my current one. I can fix stone chips and small rust areas. No can fix hood what got bent over the roof of the car... Atleast, I can't,, well ,,,,,, just don't want to acutally..... I'll take it.. Let me know price. Bring it with you if you come down here for the Mini-Meet over the 4th. Otherwise, I'll figure a way to get myself up there to get it.
  15. Chapter 15, page 90 has some wiring layout drawings.
  16. It's all good though, just prefer beer now. Anyways,,,,, back on track here. Going to swing by Glen's shop after work today, see what he wants to install the new windshield, and if he wants the Wagon there or is willing to do it here.
  17. The main wiring harness runs along the inside of the doorsill where the fuel/brake lines are on either side. There is a section of it that should run along the crossbrace under the front seats going to the trans tunnel for the E-brake and such. I believe the power window unit mounts to the two holes seen in the 2nd pic of the wiring, under the PS seat. For the most part, the harness will lay back in by it's self, and give you an idea as to where it runs. Don't try to undo any of the bends it has in it.
  18. Long Islands are good,,, but I like them to much.. Beer is good...
  19. Don't have to have a Beer with us Tom, we usually have some iced tea in the fridge, brewed from bags, not instant.... Unless,,, you were talking a Manhattan or Long Island, Iced tea. No have all the "ingrediants" for those......
  20. The bearing in the idler pulley is replacable. Should be able to source one from a local bearing supplier.
  21. I want to say it's about a 4 hour trip depending on route traveled. Made mention of you and Fox coming over here around the 4th of July. James said he may have to make another trip down.
  22. Got another winshield for it yesterday curtesy of MechanicalMisfit. James brought it down to me in exchange for the D/R 4-speed transmition I had here. Spent a few hours talking Subaru with James, mostly dealing with swapping parts between various models and years. The Desert Fox Wagon looks good in person. So now, I do need to get plate and insurance on this here Wagon..... Got a friend that owns a glass shop, need to get the Wagon up to him.
  23. Not sure when they stopped doing so, but vehicles from the 50' and 60's had springs wrapped around the drums. When I asked him, my Dad said it was to stop the drums from vibrating during slow speed braking. Maybe it would help, can't say. Buy a couple sreendoor springs and wrap them around the drums. Not to sure right now on how one would keep them in place, but you'd want them near the inner lip of the drum. One spring per drum. Can't do it on a ribbed drum....
  24. With a whole lot of cutting and welding and bending,,,, it could be "made to fit"..... But it ain't no bolt-on for a Carbed engine, nor a FI engine,,, unless it's Turboed..........
