  1. Yeah the early gen legacy trannies weren't that great. As it's been mentioned....not a lot of people can rebuild them properly. I do know of a shop in the north seattle area that does excellent work. He's a friend.....however I'm not sure if anyone is even around the area. Your best bet is probably to try and find a used one with low miles. A big killer with these transmissions is people not changing the fluid regularly. Once they start to go, there's very little you can do to get them back to tip top shape. A valve body rebuild on mine helped for a little while, but towards the end, shifts were sloppy, tranny was slipping, and gas mileage was absolutely horrible.
  2. yeah....not regularly changing the fluid on automatic transmissions is a real good cause for premature failure.
  3. Actually I'd say the 94 GT's are more rare, because they were an option pack you could get. I've definitely seen a lot more 91 turbos then 94 GT's.
  4. First I'd find out what code the ECU is spitting out and go from there. You have a link for the 97 ecu I/O page on ravensblade? I can take a look and see if there's anything in addition to the MT/AT pin. I sort of think there is...at least from memory and talking to a few people that did a swap on a newer model impreza.
  5. There definitely should at least be lines running into the radiator for cooling. Maybe they're on the other side. I'm sort of at a lost....
  6. You may want to ask on nasioc. There may be someone in the texas forum that might want to swap http://forums.nasioc.com/forums
  7. The canister purge solenoid is about $75-$85 USD or something like that IAC valve is like $300 USD, so if you do replace that, I'd probably suggest getting it used.
  8. It's not easy to change from AT to MT. Check out my write-up and the pictures. That should help give you an idea on what's involved. The tranny filter is held on by a clamp. Once you get the lines off the filter, it should come out.
  9. yes there is a hose that goes to the throttle body from the canister purge solenoid. Not sure if that would be your only problem, but it might be a contributing factor to it.
  10. hmmm......well the canister purge valve should be independent of the IAC valve. I'd suggest replacing one item at a time. I'd probably do the canister purge valve since it's cheaper then the IAC valve, and they do tend to go bad.
  11. going to have to get the from the dealer more then likely You may be better off just looking at another transmission to buy. Unless you're doing the labor yourself....
  12. nope....won't work....95 the computers went OBD2.....95 actually is different from 96 even.....
  13. The idle air control valve adjusts the idle and everything. The canister purge valve just deals with emissions, and to be honest, that's what it sounds like the CEL issue is. Mine went a while ago, and the light would stay on...go off.... What I'd suggest is clearing the codes...driving the car again, and if/when the CEL comes on again, check the codes and see what's there.
  14. You may want to check the TPS. The idle switch is built into the TPS. This procedure tells how to set/test the idle switch http://www.main.experiencetherave.com:8080/subaru_manual_scans/FSM_Scans/TPS_testing3.jpg If you test it and it tests ok, or if you readjust it, and the CEL doesn't go away, you may need a new TPS.
  15. Take the belt off the ps pump and turn the pulley by hand. If it doesn't turn smoothly, it's possible there is some bearing damage and replacing the fluid may or may not prolong its life. I had one that was making noise. I replaced the fluid, and was quiet for a little while, but started making noise again, so I just replaced it. It wouldn't turn freely at all. It was toast.
  16. They are not that rare. All the numbers floating around the net are grossly incorrect. If it's in decent shape, it'd be worth looking into. If it's a POS....just keep looking. BTW, the turbo legacies were only offered for 1991-1994 MY's.
  17. I'd suggest trying to find a used one. You should be able to pick up a used one for around 100-200 bucks. I'd try these guys http://www.4subarusuzukikiaparts.com/ http://www.superrupair.com/ http://www.boxer4racing.com/ http://car-part.com/
  18. Sounds like you have the cable adjusted ok. I'd probably recommend just getting an OEM clutch/pp, etc. Or look into an Exedy unit. They make subaru's OEM clutches.
  19. Excess wear on the outside of the tires is usually caused by an improper alignment, specifically, too much positive camber. I'd suggest getting a 4-wheel alignment done at a good alignment place. Should cost you around 60-70 USD.
