91 Legacy 2.2 idle
Legacy777 replied to SUBARU3's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYeah, you should not touch the throttle linkage screw. It's precalibrated to flow a specific amount of air around the throttle. Adjusting that will also throw off the TPS calibration. The TPS can be readjusted using the previous link I posted. Glad you got it all sorted out though.

TSB from AU/NZ concerning Gates timing belt installlation
Legacy777 replied to Turbone's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI'll throw in my two cents on the guide plate. When I did the timing belt on the 06 Legacy I previously owned I noticed the newer style timing belt tensioner doesn't appear to hold the belt and "tight" as the older style tensioners. As a result of that, the guide may be there to help prevent the belt from jumping a tooth. It looks like on the Legacy line, the plate didn't get added until the 3rd gen Legacies, even though the newer style tensioner was used on the 2nd gen Legacies. That tool that Gates came up with is pretty cool!

Anyone have photos of 1st gen pre-facelift Legacy sedan w/ outback suspension/wheels?
Legacy777 replied to rxleone's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI don't know if I've seen too many, if any sedans with the outback suspension on them. Hopefully someone will have one or two. Additionally, you could try looking on the Legacycentral BBS.

91 Legacy 2.2 idle
Legacy777 replied to SUBARU3's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXTodd, He's talking about the screw/needle valve I mentioned in my post and in these pictures. http://www.main.experiencetherave.com/subaru/images/TB The 90 MY and some early production 91 MY Legacies were the only ones to get this adjustment screw. So just because your car is a 91 MY, that doesn't mean it will be there.

2005 Legacy 2.5i Coolant
Legacy777 replied to 9098's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe only reason I recommend the Subaru stuff on specific cars is due to Subaru's past history with head gaskets and the 2.5 liter motor. The ej253 is supposedly better than the older 2.5's, but I've heard comments that even the 4th gen (05-09) Legacy 2.5's can potentially have headgasket issues at higher mileage. On the 2.2's and older motors....I run prestone or the regular green EG antifreeze.

Ea82 help please!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm going to move this to the old gen forum.

2005 Legacy 2.5i Coolant
Legacy777 replied to 9098's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWhen I had my 06 2.5i, it took regular green coolant. I do however think I bought Subaru green coolant since the 2.5 can sometimes be prone to headgasket issues. The other thing to note, some cars called for an added coolant conditioner to be used. Your local dealer can use your VIN and determine whether it should be used or not.

making an air tank?
Just out of curiosity, what was this tank used for previously? Do you know the pressure rating of the tank? If you don't know or know the pressure you're going to be filling with could exceed the rated tank pressure, you should install a relief valve of some kind so the tank is not overpressured.

95 Legacy AC issue
Legacy777 replied to SUBARU3's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYeah....low side will typically be in the range of 30-40 psi and the high side probably around 200 psi or so....again like you said it's going to vary with ambient temp.

Plastic filler for bumper
Legacy777 replied to rxleone's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYou should be using a polypropylene plastic welding rod that is melted into the holes/gouges on the bumper. The factory manual gives a little bit of instruction/guidance. Starting on page 79 of 206 for the Liberty manual you can see what it says. http://www.main.experiencetherave.com/subaru_manual_scans/1992_Liberty_FSM_-_FULL/1992_Subaru_Liberty_Service_Manual_Section_5.zip

91 Legacy 2.2 idle
Legacy777 replied to SUBARU3's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYou really can't adjust the idle on these cars without it kind of wacking out the ECU. If your TB has a needle valve/screw on top of it like this: http://www.main.experiencetherave.com/subaru/images/TB You can unscrew that, which will allow more air to bypass the throttle plate. You can verify the TPS is adjusted properly with these instructions: http://www.main.experiencetherave.com/subaru_manual_scans/FSM_Scans/TPS_testing3.jpg Short of that....some people adjust the throttle stop, however I would recommend against that as it throws the factory calibration out. Another thing to note is that on the Legacy tachometer, what people think is 500 rpm is actually 750 rpm. The darker hashes are 500 rpm increments, while the lighter hashes are 250 rpm increments. Here's a pic of the tach. http://www.main.experiencetherave.com/subaru/images/combmeter/images/IMG_5845.JPG

95 Legacy AC issue
Legacy777 replied to SUBARU3's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXTodd, Any chance you've put a set of gauges on to see what the pressure is doing when the compressor is running? I'd try and start there to see if the pressures are normal. If so, then it's probably a bad switch or might be the temperature sensor in the evaporator.

Parking light issue
Legacy777 replied to laseron's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHave you tried disconnecting the battery for an hour or so to try "reseting" the keyless entry module? If the problem is narrowed down to the keyless entry system, you may want to see if the subaru dealership can plug into the system and see what might be wrong.

high idle linked to blower motor
Legacy777 replied to aa8jzdial's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYou may want to have the alternator or battery checked. I know when the voltage is low the ECU will raise the rpm to increase voltage and charging.

99 OBW, squeaky, creaky, rear end corner
Legacy777 replied to Rooster2's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIt may just need to be cleaned or adjusted so it's not so tight. When you pull up on the parking brake handle, do you have to pull up a lot or a little amount of "clicks"?

Impreza Legacy hood hinge differences?
Legacy777 replied to idosubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWell I looked in the parts book and there are different part #'s between the 95-99 Legacies and 93-01 Imprezas. As for the specific differences, I'm not sure. This isn't the greatest picture, but it's all I have at the moment. http://www.main.experiencetherave.com/subaru/images/imprezahellasupertones/IMG_2021.JPG There are different part #'s between the 2nd gen Legacy. If you can get the build date, I can give you the part #'s for the hinges. They're only like $15 at Subarugenuineparts. It may be easier just to buy new hinges.

Can't open tailgate (Legacy 1991, EJ22, Station)
Legacy777 replied to stickedy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIf you can't get the cladding off, you could try drilling hole with a hole saw through the cladding so you can at least reach in there to unlatch the tailgate. Then you can just get a round rubber plug or something to fill the hole. That would probably look better than completely destroying the cladding.

Fuel sender and starting issues
Legacy777 replied to a-marshal's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXNot sure if you got this resolved, but it's possible the wiring to the fuel pump is also bad, which is why the car won't start. I'd recommend replacing the entire fuel pump assembly if the corrosion is that bad.

Drivers Power Door Lock Wiring, 98 Leg Outback
Legacy777 replied to lmdew's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXLarry, Not sure if you got this figured out, I don't have wiring diagrams for the 98 Legacy, but do have them for the 97 & 99. Hopefully one will work. http://main.experiencetherave.com/subaru_manual_scans/FSM_Scans/1997_Legacy_Door_Lock_Wiring_Diagram.pdf http://main.experiencetherave.com/subaru_manual_scans/FSM_Scans/1999_Legacy_Door_Lock_Wiring_Diagram.pdf

99 OBW, squeaky, creaky, rear end corner
Legacy777 replied to Rooster2's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYes, you would need a puller to get the bearing out. If you get a new hub, anything from a 90-99 Legacy and 93-01 and possibly 02-06 Impreza should work. I think the newer Impreza stuff should work, but I'd probably suggest sticking with something closer to your model year.

Impreza Legacy hood hinge differences?
Legacy777 replied to idosubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI looked at my 1st gen Legacy and 1st gen Impreza and the hinges are different. The rear bolt/mount on the impreza goes back under the cowling. The Legacy doesn't. If he's still trying to figure out which is which and can post a pic, I can probably clarify.

Thinking about a DIY vinyl roof overlay
Legacy777 replied to NWSubie's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXMy 97 OBS has similar issues on the hood scoop & vents. I think it's just an issue with poor paint. As for the vinyl, it will likely be kind of difficult getting it perfect. I've got a friend who does vinyl work for a living. He and friend wrapped his STi in vinyl and said it was a big pain in the butt.
