2005 intermittant starting
Legacy777 replied to Mikeleb's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWelcome to the USMB. Does your Outback have a manual or automatic transmission? I'm going to move this to the new gen forum where it should get some more attention.

new member in western MA
Legacy777 replied to 1999IOS's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWelcome to the USMB. If it's possible, I would recommend using all the timing components off the original engine. Additionally, I'd probably suggest swapping the intake manifold. I think the auto and possibly California spec engines have EGR. If you use your original intake manifold, I would suggest just using a bolt or similar to plug the hole on the head. I am going to move your thread to the New gen forum as more people review that for technical questions.

Louisiana \ Texas \ MS \ AR \ OK \ TN... meet?
This was a state meet we had back in 2002. We actually had a brat at it. I think he had the oldest vehicle, and my 90 legacy was the next oldest. http://main.experiencetherave.com/subaru/images/dallasmeet

TSK1 repair sleeve seems cheaply made...
Legacy777 replied to Mr.Atlantis's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThanks for the update and information on the clutch repair kit. I will likely get one of these when I replace the clutch in my 97 Impreza.

'NOTHER STOLEN IN SEATTLE!
Legacy777 replied to Olnick's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXMy brother got his car back almost 2 months later. Based on what he found in the car it appeared that the theives were likely "all around" low lifes. He thinks the only reason they ditched the car was that the registration was about to expire. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/147499-brothers-1996-legacy-wagon-was-stolen-from-northgate-north-of-seattle-found/ He's in the process of cleaning things up and will likely be installing a kill switch and another anti-theft device, which I thought was pretty ingenious.

Louisiana \ Texas \ MS \ AR \ OK \ TN... meet?
There is a pretty decent size Subaru following in Texas. We haven't had an "official" state meet in a couple years. However there are shows or events that pop up. The most recent was the "Big Event 6" in Houston. Here's some info, http://www.gillmansubaruhouston.com/the-big-event.htm. They have done it every year for the past several years. So that may be something to plan for next year. You may also want to check out the SE regional forum on NASIOC to see if there is anything else going on closer to you. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=21

Total Newb to Subaru's
Yeah....it's a little hard to tell. I've had some very un-adjusted lifters that caused an unholy noise. I would recommend having a shop take a look at it. The valve covers come off pretty easily and the rocker assembly again comes off without too much effort. Can you try and narrow down whether the noise sounds like it's coming from the center part of the block or more towards the heads?

Total Newb to Subaru's
The timing belt has an automatically adjusting tensioner. It's possible one of the idler pullies has worn bearings that may be causing the noise. Can you take a video of the noise and post to YouTube?
