dude.. did you or anyone in the car get hurt?! thats brutal, something you will remember the rest of your life, I'm sure. Ah, if you havent sold that lift I would possibly be interested in it. I have a 84 hatch to lift, but no money for one, most likely be a home jobby! Thats crazy you drove it home....

I have done the conversion to my hatch, I took all that motor and shield off, I just used the whole bracket it was on and took off the olf bracket, cut out in my grill peice and wired it up on a toggle. Its so bright!!! good luck

yea, I have access to a wagon, it is newer, not sure of the of the compatibility between trans mount. but if im putting in the ea81 trans member in, wont it fit right in, or is there linkage issues.. totally,I am going to make this swap. I get the brat in about a week or two! It is pretty decent considering the price, lots of extra parts with it. I have another delima now. The 86 wagon suffered a good/bad (depends how you look at it) blow to the frontgrill, it was ugly. I will have pics soon and more of an idea on when this is going to happen. we will have to meet up sometime this week? I had my 83 wagon for sale but has become the daily driver... probably seen it around town it has two chrome rims in the back and two white spoked rims up front pretty rusted! later on thanx for the support Ill need a hand...

so what would be needed for an ea81 into a '78 gen 1 brat? I know that the brat has the ea71 with top mount starter, the ea81 is side mounted, so if I can come up with a tranny (4 speed d/r) will it drop right in? I have a motor alreday... out of my hatch:) Yeah its gonna be fun. the ea71 has a bad head or something... head gasket my guess, but I want the power of the 81 but with d/r. thank you all this site is home for me, besides the mtn...

Can't find a throttle cable for EA81!
Urabus-84HBDR replied to markjs's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I have been looking for an answer to the same problem, my 84 gl hatch has been sitting cause the way cable had to be routed, it would be fine but if you got into it and it went past a certain point itd stick wide open. The cable was too long. this has me thinking... -

Well my 83 wagon is ready to go and get muddy, just need to change out the cv, today, put in new brake clips. give R.D. a call 509-362-2120 or 509-447-5730 when you want to go out and play in the mud or snow. SNOW is so much fun!! Im workin @ 49* North and everyday the parking lot is empty when I leave so have a litttle fun, gettin better at rallying! -

need some creative advice
Urabus-84HBDR replied to PeterD's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I got a parts car with most of it there, trying to part it out and get rid of it. I bought some snow/hwy tires from Discount on the N. side, (division), pretty good had them siped! Only about 45 bucks a tire plus 6 or 7 to get 'em siped their Warriors 185/70R13. I work at 49 and the tires do great up the mtn roads, no need for tire cables/studs. Hey we should meet up sometime soon and go rallying/wheelin'! Ill be in spokane this week a couple times. The tries are on my stock steel mags fit both wagon/hatch. -
this ever happened to your soob?
Urabus-84HBDR replied to Urabus-84HBDR's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hey guys thanx, I had sometime after work today, the mtn opened, first in E. Wa, n e way, pulled off the tire, brake caliper. Just as I thought the pad was worn way too far bad on my part... the one left on the inside was all cracked and no line/groove on it at all. Adjusted the piston back in to where I can get both new pads on and put it back on,filled the brake fluid, pump brakes and blead, but the pad is only held on by about an 1/8'', not right, I'm pretty sure that the brake disc is worn too thin, it doesnt keep the ad seated right . probably never been changed. I didnt have enough time to go and get parts off the parts car, hopefully they'll work, but will post soon. Any other info would be nice! THANX for all the input. hey hondasucks; I have put on a new hub and disc rotor on my hatch that was vented in between the two discs and didnt change out the caliper but have had no problems with it. -
So Im on my way to work (1st day) about an hour away, Ski Resort, get to the base of the mtn and start on the windy road. I am turning on this long gradual corner and felt like I hit something, looked like mud/rock in the road. I didnt see anything in the road?? coulda been. Anyway got to the next corner and go to slow down, its a sharp L corner, push on my brakes and they go to the floor, oh sh*t, luckily there was a dirt raod/driveway I downshifted to a stop. Pump my brakes and they still go to the floor, I get out and look at my front rotors/pads. The driver outside pad was GONE, nothing there except the caliper and clips. Has that happened to you or anyone you know? I think the pad was super old and finally broke, I assume; not sure. wtf?

nice dude, I got an 83 wagon 4s/d/r for 200 bucks; pretty rough but runs awesome. Those are the best ones! the ones you didnt expect or anticipate it, mine was spurr of the moment

Need opinions for sube accesories
Urabus-84HBDR replied to [HTi]Johnson's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
yeah, I wouldnt want to pay more/less than what I paid for my soob. my wagon was only 200 bucks, my hatch 300. a lift kit from AA or BYB is more than double and still have to install myself, rather make it as I go. though not as many people are able to do so. things like access to tools/shop/materials or the know how is all a factor, rare but not totally out of the picture. so there is a market somewhere. I actually have been thinking the same, only doing custom jobs like making and installing lifts, putting ej's into ea's, F.I. intakes, double carb set-up, or trans swap 4 to 5 speed or 2wd/4wd to D/R... unique and functional items are better off than bumpers roof racks etc., in my opinion.83 wagon 4s/d/r s.t.b. 5 d/r 84 hatch 4s/d/r lift in the works -
let me know when your gonna do it, I have exp. installing a clutch. pretty easy, got all the tools? i can bring some if need, air tools make it fast. I wouldnt expect anything, just want to help some subie lovers out, make friends, and gain experience with these cars! I have a clutch alignment tool, might be different from ea81 to ea82... not sure. try carquest for parts, they have been good to me and my subarus! Im busy the 12, 13 of nov. but open...

sweet thats the first lifted subie I've seen in spokane. my neighbor in newport has a few lifted subies, probly remember them from wcss, 2 years ago. blue brat with chevy v-6, 10 inch lift, nissan t-case, bunch of other stuff, and the unhatched, hacth; he cut it off, gots a 6 inch lift, swamps. we should definately meet up and go wheelin sometime soon. It is snowing here! I should have my hatch back together in the next few days. working on getting the no-how from him on lifts, gonna do it myself!

Jiffy lube Visit etc.
Urabus-84HBDR replied to Rick James's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
not all jiffy lubes are that way. i got a few buddies that work and manage a couple of shops around spokane, wa. their shop is number one in sales and customer service for their region, area, whatever. they hook me up all the time, all i do is buy my fluids and they take care of me, I probably shouldnt say this could get them in trouble, but I have actually went to their shop and used their tools to change my oil, coolant and, still didnt have to pay! no oil disposal fee, nothin. In my eyes they are a good group. now if your some high calss doc/lawyer or educated idiot, you might not get that of great service, I will admit that. -
haha check out this video with a ea81 wagon
Urabus-84HBDR replied to soobmater's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
jumping over a subaru aint too hard, but jumping a subaru now thats alittle harder, and not just a foot, he got some air! Its in a snowboarding video; I think technical difficulties, its made by mdp (mack dawg productions), a pro shredder jumps an ea82 wagon, dont look lifted or anything too crazy customized but jumps this road, real steep approach, road, another slope/landing! its sick I'll dig in my movies too find out exactly who and what movie it is in... -
im in and around spokane often, and am always looking for someone to go out and rally/crawl @ the ORV park or anywhere really. I am a proud owner of two subarus! my first was an 84 Hatch 4s/d/r, my synchros are bad but am putting a new trans in currently. FUN! my other Soob was a score, $200! The hatch was cheap but the wagon was even cheaper!! 83 wagon 4s/d/r pretty much stock cept the coil, if it matters. I would like to meet up with some of the spokanite soobs, I've seenb a red brat in the valley with alloy pugs and a lift. not sure who it is. Also looking for tips on do-it-yourself-lift for the hatch, I am too broke to buy a lift from AA or BYB, Id rather make it, but need a little help from someone who has done a subie lift Thanx all!

push button 4wd vs D/R 4wd
Urabus-84HBDR replied to kel's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
yeh subarian and zye have it right. if its got 4WD its good! It will get you up the mtn! My buddie had a hatch that was 2wd and it got us up the mtn on some bad days!! (usually had a tools + strap j.i.c,) If its a good deal I'd go for it, or nice. Like subarian said you can always put in the D/R, I am doing a trans on my ea81 hatch right now but not real difficult, though the 82s have alot more hoses to deal with. Good luck whatever you do, most people I have come across with the push button are happy. -
New From Spokane WA
Urabus-84HBDR replied to ekimyerac's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
I drive a light blue hatch in and around spokane, mine has a 5th eye cut out in the grille and no shutter. I live north on hwy 2, but did work in town. I am trying to get a few subies to get together and go wheelin @ the orv in 7 mile. I also drive a silver 83 wagon. The hatch is getting a new trans right now, well yesterday and tomorrow, what do you drive -
7 mile ORV park is a good all around park for whatever you like to do, I got some friends that like to ride out there, its fun to go out and wheel around! We should go out this week and meet up, I should have my hatch back together, I'd like to drive it out there. I was out a couple weeks ago when it was rainiing and muddy, kinda cold. Ill be in town this week, wed or thurs.?! Sounds fun and should be decent weather.

hey ah, I'm currently working on putting a 'new' trans in my hatch, EA81, d/r, I want to put in power steering, itd be nice! I have all the pump, hoses, whatever off of a parts car, just need to know if I have to put in the rack + pinion, or power assist/ steering assist? The vacuum boost? Thanx any other info would help and be appreciated

K I think I've came up with a way to get one of these beaters around runnin' n drivin' again! Got this Luv truck that had a deer run into it, k it hit the deer. bad news smashed the whole front grille/bumper/lights/radiator, etc. K I got this parts Subaru wagon, Im going to take the front end of the wagon and put it on the Luv truck!!! How cool'd that be? I think it would be one of a kind. Too much fabrication to make it Soob powered but the front end, lights, hood, all that will work. Let me know what you think, not that it matters this project will come alive sooner than later! By the way the Luv is jacked 4'', 28'' TSL S. Swampers, hyped 2.2 w/ Weber. Pictures soon.

Transmission bad; change with...
Urabus-84HBDR replied to Urabus-84HBDR's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
well got the 'new' old trans in today, rain/snow prevented me from finishing it up, yeah no shop to work in soon. the wires/plug are the same, along with everything else! Sweet cant wait to drive it again! Got some free parts today; two rims/tires, burly rack, cool toggle, and a motor if I wnat it, but the score a 5 speed d/r and all the parts for it. thats for my wagon though. chrome stock bumper, rear custom steel plate bumper with hitch, for the hatch.
