Is that the same centralia that was like on top of a burning coal mine?? I read that in a book somewhere but never though it was true. The book said that the town was still emitting smoke from the fires.

I was doing some cleaning in the wagon and after carpet removal I found a piece of the metal floor had been factory threaded. It was pretty prominent too, raised above the rest of the floor. Any ideas what it is for? I was thinking it might be an alternative place for the spare tire but the bolt that holds the spare down is too long.

Ya, hooking up a snorkel is probably one of the most important things you can do before water fording. With just the stock airbox, air (and water) would be sucked in in front of the passenger wheels very close to the bottom of the fender. Even fording a little puddle with a stock airbox would result in sucking in some water.

92 Loyale with newer Subaru wheels?

What do you have on there for tires in the picture Numbchux? They fit ok with no lift?? -
How to remove door trim without bending?
EYE_WHY replied to TROGDOR!'s topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
When I took the trim off my wagon, I easily pried the trim from he clips, then used an exacto knife or razor blade to pop the plastic peices out. You should be able to get one side tab of the plastic part out, then just use the razor to push the other tab in and it pops right out. -
So for the "Moderate lift" no other fabrication is needed right? Just straight bolt on and go? I thought I saw some people taking about trouble with steering or shifting? I really want a lift that is just bolt on and drive away with no problems. How fast is it safe to go with a moderate lift kit installed? How much would shipping be to Bangor ME, 04401? Thanks for all the help guys, lotsa questions here

Northern New England/NY,etc. Meet???
EYE_WHY replied to moosens's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
I would love to have another Soob enthusiast in Bangor!!:banana:I have seen a few older Subarus around here, one DL I in good condition for $750 that I was thinking about buying. Lots of Loyales, GLs ec. but haven't seen many early Subarus. I am having a tough time finding good yards up here, most of them are NOT pick and pull and usually don't even let you go in the yard to look around. I did find one in Milford that you can walk around the yard but I only saw an early Legacy or two and most of the cars there were trashed beyond salvage. I was actually down in Freeport visiting my friend, I wanted to stop in to a few junk yards there and in Palmyra, but I didn't have time to check anything out. That junk yard meeting idea is great, I am always looking to explore new yards! -
I'm thinking an exhaust gasket somewhere came loose or split off? This is pretty loud almost and I really need to try to quiet it down a bit. Anyone have ideas?

Sorry Milt, I am looking for a 4wd :-\ Nice to know there are other Soob lovers in Maine though.

How difficult are the A.A. lift kits to install? I know it's just a bolt on but I am worried about rusted bolts/parts and having bolt heads twist off on me. I really want a lift but I don't want to be without a car for weeks.

Ya, plenty of places to go, but it's tough to find people to go with. Maybe if I buy a lift kit and you stop by Bangor, we could have a lifting party:rolleyes:!! (I wish). -
How many days are left? I am contemplating getting one but nothing definite yet.

Darn, I wanted to make this one but I don't think I would be able to stand a 12 hour round trip drive from Maine .I'll keep my eyes open for some meets farther up north. -
Haha, I got ripped a new one after coming home with my Subaru covered in mud. Didn't have time to clean it off before the parental units saw it. No car for a week, it was worth it though. I was mad I didn't get to drive it to school all muddy though . . .

That black under the trim looks sweet!!! Reminds me of a paint scheme I tried to pull off on my wagon . . . -
Quick question about the AA lift or any lift kits in that matter. Is highway speed (70-75mph) still attainable and safe? One of my buddies seems to think that after a 4" lift, the wagon becomes unsafe to drive on the highway.

No worries, I never complain about free help! I'll give the exhaust system a full lookover tomorrow. I just hope I don't mess up anything major.

Mapquest says a little less that 2.5 hours from Bangor, definitly do-able. Is the car 4wd? D/R? M/T? Thanks

After a recent offroading session during which I bottomed out and got stuck a few times, I noticed my engine had a way different sound to it. It now as an underlying deep throaty chug as if I put some new muffler on it. Hopefully nothing to worry about? Nothing seemed to be wrong with performance, just that louder deeper chug. Maybe just an exhaust leak or I whacked somewhere that put a hole somewhere in the exhaust system. Actually sounds kinda cool but I am still a little concerned about what I may have done.

How far is Roque Bluffs from Bangor? I may be interested.

When on an incline with clutch in, press the brakes almost all the way in. Take your foot off the brake and the clutch should hold your place. Neat feature, don't know how to adjust it though. Also, I think it only works on an incline, not a decline.

As long as I don't have to drive through more than two states, I'm down. And yes, we do get the internet here in Maine (well, most of Maine anyway . . .) It would be pretty sweet to have a bike n' drive.
