'82 Brat, EJ22T Swap, Which Transmission?
Turbone replied to Lifeisgood's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
Look for Renobs thread in this forum. He installed a EJ22 in his Brat. Cant recall what he's using for a trans, but he Rally X's his quite a bit. I have the stock trans in my RX with a EJ22T swap and the original trans grenaded after 3 weeks of running. The one I have in now is doing much better but eventually I plan on swapping the trans to a EJ. Its a lot more involved then keeping the stock trans. Finding the cross members, having a driveline made up etc. -
I wanted something a little more stylish/sporty with more adjustments. I picked up a pair of Mitsubishi Eclipse (turbo) seats for $25 total. I have a pair of these seats (N/A) in my Brat and love them. BUT, as the EA81 and EA82 are quite different, the install was more complicated in the RX than Brat. A lot more cutting and welding to make the rails work and the seats to sit correctly. It took me 2+ days to fab everything, but it was worth it in the end.

Thats why I make it a point when at a wrecking yard to look in every black box for links. I probably have more than any dealer The black ones are harder to find tho, it seems like they only came in GL10's or turbo models. Heres the specs from the FSM.

Welcome to the USMB. While your doing all that work under the hood, you will definitely want to replace all the coolant hoses. Especially anything close or having to do with the turbo. Also any upgrades increasing boost will shorten the life of the engine, its not the greatest design from Subaru. There a few threads in the Retrofit and Old School forums that will explain a lot of this.

How about Leavenworth? Lots of stuff to do and see there and Lake Wenatchee is a nice place to hang out. -

If everything is there, I would connect it properly. I know my old EA82T could have used one and the current EJ probably could also.

It will need to be made. Expect a good chance of it leaking because of the size.

Hey, mine lasted almost 3yrs before I purposely ended it I knew it wasnt going to last (bought from CCR after the owner retired) and I had all the parts for my swap. And it did run with the WRX guys, quite a few times. I had a STi owner that was following me on a run ask me what engine swap I had it in. The look on his face when I told him it was a just a 1.8 (slightly modded) = priceless OP, PM me if you want info. I also live fairly close and can meet up with you sometime.

Not much to do. My t-case lever comes up behind the center console and the handbrake works fine.

You might be better off lifting it a little and keeping it.

Need some advice on identifying 3 problems
Turbone replied to SubaruGL's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
#1 is part of the emissions system and comes from the header exhaust port. #2 looks like the breather hose, it shouldnt be connected to anything. #3 looks like grease splatter from when a CV boot broke. It usually makes a big mess all over the firewall and exhaust. It will burn off eventually. -
The MAF adapter I got from someone on the forums. It was a few years ago, so I dont remember the details. Some folks go to Home Depot and get a dryer vent line connector. Not sure if this will work in all applications. I made brackets to mount the IC to either side of the spare tire platform.
