It has pics, but not of a cored out gov. http://web.archive.org/web/20050227203610/www.usmb.net/repair/?CurrentDirectory=FOLDER_3f29b58f50d9b8.15492800/&FileType=Article&File=ARTICLE_3f57fdb83de231.34713659.art

87 XT Turbo
A lot of times the temp gauge wont register a correct temp because of a lack of water. Make sure the water is topped off to get a accurate reading.

What color are you looking for? Have you posted in the Wanted forum yet?

87 XT Turbo
Its possible the t-stat is stuck, but I doubt it. Its most likely a headgasket is bad.

Build Thread: Angie's Monster Wagon
The 85 and 86 RX trans is part time 4wd with D/R. The gearing is the same as the S/R trans. And its still 3.7 ratio.

Installing Winch - Need Help
This is the winch on my Hatch. Its a Warn 6000 mounted to a standard winch bumper thats mounted to a steel channel front bumper. It has pretty beefy mounting brackets mounting it to the frame rails. I have actually bent the mounts winching myself (and others) over the years.

1986 turbo xt transmission problem
I guess have a try at the modulator then. I'm far from a guru when it comes to a transmission, but I would say if this doesnt do the trick I would be looking for a replacement or swap in a 5spd. Not sure how your missus would like that, but it would solve having to deal with it again. This make of trans from Subaru is notorious for going bad and fixing one is more costly than replacing.

What is this little box?
Its a solenoid valve, part of the EGR system. You can use one off of your other intake. Just be careful, they are usually pretty brittle.

1986 turbo xt transmission problem
You could try draining-replacing the fluid. Not sure I would do a flush on it, may be more hurtful than helpful. I dont think theres a filter for it either, my parts book doesnt show one.

upgrade
Try doing a search for EA82T, should come up with a few results. Dont expect a lot of them to be good tho. I see you're some what local, if you want help or parts just let me know.

1986 turbo xt transmission problem
You can check to see if the governor is apple cored. Its on the passenger side of the trans and has a round cover that sticks out on it. Try calling 1 866 528-5282 or ordering a new one at http://1stsubaruparts.com/ Heres someone else that had the problem, but it sounds like in the end he probably had to replace the trans. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=47309&highlight=governor+service

Spillmaster ftw. My RX... My old GL-10 T-Wagon... And the GL-10 again, but with a type that fits in tight spaces.

Something Unusual (1958 Goliath)
Some unique stuff there. Like how the cooling fan is run by the generator. The transverse leaf suspension is the same as the old Opel Kadetts.
