well had a very hard time getting fire in her hole this morn after some investigative research under the bonnet they were very lucky to make it. The ignition points had closed down (rub block wear due to lube pad not touching) to less than 0.002"!! Did a little burnishing and reset (by eye!!) to 0.018" (Well not quite my "eye" set them to 0.019") Touched the key to start and she fired so fast I barely had time to release it. "That's the way a Suby should start" I told myself. All tune up parts appear brand new, new alternator, new rad Finding the dip stick was a small challenge. I luv this baby Make date 12/77 BTW The muffler did not fall off, stud departed the head. Gasket she be toast. Will see what threads are left, may oversize and retap. Gonna check NAPA for a "close enough" gasket.

Right you are Caleb shame on me and my lame brain

you hit fuel cut at any boost pressure over factory it may be altitude adjusted and maybe your boost gage is a pound off or so. You could try a voltage clamp on the MAF signal wire

My Nu 2 me 78 Brat is home at the ranch.. Wagonsonly and his Dad drove it a total of over 11 hours most of which without a muffler (fell off early on) They then jumped in the GL 10 I sold him and headed back for another 9 hour stint. These guys clank when they walk - 20 hours + in these old Roo's, gotta luv'em. Cirque du Soleil - Wagons flies to Atlanta next weekend to bring back his gorgeous clamback wagon. Bass solid brass Thank you gentleman - well done and I honor your fortitude

loosing coolant possibly? cracked head in the exhaust port (pass side guess) probably drop the X-over pipe and see "you're in the fluid"

injector question (ea82t transplant)
Skip replied to dneufeld's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
well lets do the math this is DC 'trisity although the impedance of the injectors is quoted by sources as they are fed an alternating voltage pulse and they are coils aka inductors the resistor is 6 ohm the injector is 3 ohm = 9 ohm wattage (i.e. power DC) = V x I and I= V / R ala ohm law so W = V to the two / R = 14 x 14 / 9 = ~ 22 watts where does that take us ? To the Rat Shack? -
Acouple of '94 Loyale Questions
Skip replied to EYE_WHY's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
use the white connectors not the green for checking codes this might help http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/article.php?a=44 from the repair manual on the page header -
right you are Glen about the short on the fuse issue he said the CAS was working I have to assume the ECU has power. Maybe time for him to go fishing in the bay of E for a FSM Or download the Finley web copy Why has he never mentioned the ig amp?

injector question (ea82t transplant)
Skip replied to dneufeld's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i don't think the injector coils would like you by passing the dropping resistors -
my FSM says it's fuse number 11 that feeds power to the coil?? the power transistor (ignition amplifier) is connected to pins 37 and 43 wonder of an open or shorted power transistor would cause a no pulse situation
-
Glen is correct about the ground, the bracket must be connected to the negitive side of the bat. but the ECU does send the signal to the amp The ECU gets it's signal from the crank angle sensor (cas) in the dist. If you hear the injectors clicking the cas is talking to the ECU

Strange Idling w/ 89 Subaru GL10
Skip replied to jazzician's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
have you tested the aux. air control valve? This valve is what the ECU uses to control the idle when the engine is cold. Mounted on the upper rad hose "goose neck" It has a line going to the intake manifold pinch this line closed when it is idling high and see if it affects the idle speed There is also a idle speed compensator used when the AC is on. It compensates for the drag from the compressor -
sounds like your forgot about the ignition amplifier Many posts on the subject it is mounted on the bracket that holds the coil directly under it. The impulse signal from the ECU is too small and must be amplified to fire the coil

I wanna Turbo My wagon... What will i need?
Skip replied to ausubaru92's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
au92: Thanks for explain on the surge tank, never had a tank cut up. Have heard tell of swirl pots used on airframes I believe wgnist: Da Bomb is a storage tank and dash controlled solenoid valve, it dispenses a mix of ATF and MMO into the intake manifold => huge cloud of smoke out the tail pipe Used as an antitailgater tool The ignition timing is controlled by a slipper clutch on the disty and a stiff cable (like from a manual choke control) The control knob is mounted under the dash. It can move the distributor from lock to lock, used when the petrol octane and the engine are having disagreements. The aux injector is a cold start injector from a Bosch CIS system. It is triggered to add fuel at 8 psi and above. I had a small bottle of LPG connected to it for a while. Simply an antidetonaiton help. I run this only at 12 to 14 psi but they need help at this pressure due to the current ECU map and injector size. Good on ya mate, hope this helps -

These engines respond very well to an open exhaust and a cool air intake. Here is a picture of one of my setups. I have a cobra hood scoop feeding air thru the IC Read around the picture, if you have questions about any item please ask -

I am sorry for sounding a bit daft Would you be so kind as to explain what a "surge tank" is and why you feel it is such a necessary entity. As far as I can tell none of my four turbo Subys have one. The factory service manuals make no mention of them. Fuel Tank -> fuel pump -> filter -> injector array ->FPR ->return to tank -

Thanks guys, it will be first on my list. Off to find a cheap 83 or newer disty. Here Moosey Moosey now about this leaded Gas? -

Thanks Will, I'll take your advise and will make this a decor beside my blue 86., with the gokart as a center piece. Mary, To quote a famous little big man "We shall endeavor to persevere" while being cautiously optimistic, I might add -
wrong connectors Those are for setting the timing and for select monitor use try the white or if you have them black connectors beside the green ones

Come to think about it. I use to use carry matches. The match book cover is approx. 0.018 " I would use it as a feeler gage in an emergency. With the age of "the Bic" I don't know if I can find a pack!! Another old school trick - use a dollar bill to "burnish" the points, I would use a 20 as the were cleaner. With the economy as it is....I don't carry one of those either!! --- this thing probably has one of dem carb-a-tooter hickies too!! I'm in a world of hurt ;^) -
Ah Hti he said "downpipe" I'm sorry you misread as this would not cause his turbo to loose exhaust pressure. The turbulence could disturb the spool rate though. This is the reasoning behind a twin tube down pipe (see below) Subi guy, I have seen this problem created by the mounting bracket that is connected to the engine/bellhousing missing or out of alignment. The mount under the tranny and the one mentioned above must keep the connection at the flange from being stressed as the engine rocks under acceleration. Might want to also check the dogbone (pitching stopper) as it is what limits this rocking. Being an exhaust fabricator Why not make yourself one of these?
