Ya not much power stock but....The thing I did for my brother on his ea81 wagon was to pull the intake off and grind out those puny little ports and then pull the heads off and give the intake a good grinding and a little polishing on the exhaust side. We cut some holes on the sides of the stock air filter housing and put a k&n filter in to make the carb draw more air.The result was very noticeable with alot more torque and quick revs.

Where is that one located?Sounds familiar.

WOW!!!! That is so nice.Install looks very clean.I bet there was alot of cutting involved in getting the motor in there and back by the turbo for getting around the tranny crossmember.Very well done.I cant wait to see more pics.

where you goin?

I believe mudrat79 makes them.I know that he used to.There are a few people that do it just by tracing the outline of the tranny and the back mounting plate of the motor and centering it up to get the size they need.I believe Subarino has a pic of one that he built for his hatch.

Well I guess I by now everyone has noticed I have been looking for a dual carb intake manifold for the ea81 motor.I am not sure how many fingers I have to cut off to be able to find one.:-\ I know that they are a hard to come by but I will keep trying.....Anyway I thought I would see if anyone has tackled this on their own by frankensteining their own one together using parts from 2 intake manifolds to make one?I have seen some renditions of the intakes used on the suby aircraft engines but I just had to ask .Anyone have any pics of projects they are working on like this?

I am looking for a dual carb intake manifold for ea81 w/carbs or w/o.....I was asking all of you a few months ago but nothing was available then so I will see if anything has changed....Early thanks for replies. I was also wondering if anyone can recomend what kind of grease to use when repacking my muffler bearings? HAHAHA:lol:

I had emailed them earlier this summer and they said they would resume making them this fall(which should be about now as he said sept.).It did take a while for me to get a response from them.I wish I had saved the email.

ultimate subaru road trip!!
Jerry DeMoss replied to PeterD's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Depending on conditions(what month you go in) you should not have too much trouble. The roads are kept much better than they used to be.I went through before in January and didn't have a hard time. I used to live in Soldotna,Ak and my brother and I drove through a bit to minnesota and to washinton.I would take the brat if you can.Sounds like fun. -
(TurboXT) I will have to show you on your car what can be done to block off some of your vac hoses that go to the air cleaner box on top of your carb.I had to deal with that when I decided to create more air flow by cutting holes in the side of the air cleaner housing on my '88 hatch I used to have. Oh and by the way they make a K&N air filter for your style car that I bought when I had mine and it helped alot. What I did was have 2 filter housings one for winter and one for summer(had all the pre heat hose stuff taken off)seemed to be good for when its warm.I had a good idea for making a snorkel work on the carbed motor, just need to find a cheap housing to cut a bit at Pull n smell.

I saw these lights on ebay and they appear to be just the light enclosure.I thought these may be cool so you don't have to replace the whole thing all the time and have the ability to run stronger bulbs.I am sure someone out there has used these on a brat or hatch.I just don't know what size bulb must be used with those. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CLEAR-HEADLIGHT-subaru-BRAT-82-87-truck-head-light-lamp_W0QQitemZ8000051705QQcategoryZ33710QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I'd love to go to a meet and see who lives around the area. The only problem is I would be forbidden in my '02 Jetta.Since that is the only thing that is drivable for me right now.I do have a gas powered radio control subaru.Does that count? ;-) Don't really think that could haul me around that well.Haha

For starters good choice...tons can be done.I agree head swap over to a 2.5dohc head is a good start. You could use the wrx turbo or go for the sti turbo. I recomend switching over to the sti injectors.Use the intake manifold off of the 2.5dohc and do some minor mods and fit an sti TB and MAF.I for one feel that the block from the ej22t is stronger than the wrx.Cobb tuning may have some stuff for that engine like forged pistons if you want to go that route allthough the stock pistons and connecting rods are good for 300+ hp.Very cool project.

Turbo rebuild kits?
Jerry DeMoss replied to [HTi]Johnson's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
First off we need to see what turbo you have...I believe that that engine has a IHI turbo.Check out the website of TEC here in Golden,Co.They do some cool fab work as well as turbo rebuilding/overhaul.They also can build custom intercoolers. http://www.turboengineering.com/ -
Raising compression on an EA81...best methods?
Jerry DeMoss replied to Brettm57's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I personally don't have experience with the ea71 heads but I have heard of many people running the ea71 pistons and then you can also mill the heads and take .040'' off of them.I am guessing that the ea71 pistons and milling the heads down will get you a little above 10:1 cr.I personally would like a little more....But I may be weird. -
I wanted to see peoples opinions of these two coils. One being the one I am familiar with that I had on my '88 hatch is the msd blaster coil. The other which I don't know that much about is the big yellow cube one that accel makes.I would like to know if anyone knows what one has higher output voltage. Thanks:drunk:

Just a suggestion since you got it this far apart .....may want to rering the pistons.I thought also with it this far apart maybe clean up you ports on the heads.Definately a easy way to gain a little extra hp especially since you got new cams. The two together would just complement each other....especially on a turbo motor if you plan on boosting it up a bit.Cheers!

e85 in my ea81 conversion =p
Jerry DeMoss replied to archemitis's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Sounds like fun.I am looking for the highest cr for ea81 pistons I can find and then do something like that.Modified intake manifold from ea82 cut down to fit the shaved heads as well as a really ratty cam(for low to mid thumpin').Let me know what you decide to do would be a neat project. -
