February 9, 200620 yr welll, not much to it just a bunch of 2x4ish tube...(still needs some more parts but its on the car now.... and I have pics i still need to mount the new mini-turn signals (they will go on the top of the bar, so they wont easily get squished... and I need to find a better way to attach my license plate-instead of zip ties!
February 9, 200620 yr I need to find a better way to attach my license plate-instead of zip ties! Always duct tape
February 9, 200620 yr Author actually.. I found a welder, and made it myself! it just took a few hours
February 10, 200620 yr damn you Austin!!! beat me again.... i'm getting the steel for mine tomorrow, or monday.. .just you wait.. muhahaha
February 10, 200620 yr Just a heads up, if you have air bags in your car, steel bumpers will alter the G forces that your car experiences when you crash, so the airbags will either deploy at very low speeds, or won't deploy at all. So if I may, my .04 cents of opinion, if your car is equipped, this is not the best of ideas.
February 10, 200620 yr Author that has been taken care of on the imp no bag, no sensors, and no computer! I know, I know.. im asking for trouble
February 10, 200620 yr +10 for the lifesaving ability of Airbags truthfully these cars are pretty safe (even the models without airbags) and I'd take my 91 legacy w/o airbags over one of these new 19million airbag plastic cars any day
February 10, 200620 yr truthfully these cars are pretty safe (even the models without airbags) and I'd take my 91 legacy w/o airbags over one of these new 19million airbag plastic cars any day And the Wonder Brumby- they are built light but, damn are they rigid. Nothing beats a bit of metal on the front (20 million Aussies are not wrong). Nice Bar, well done! Steel beats plastic every time. Old boat building saying - Woods good, plastics fantastic but........STEEL IS REAL! People get out of your lane faster now I bet.
February 10, 200620 yr looks cool dude, nice job. i think it makes your Imp tougher looking. i have to agree with everyone else steel is the way to go
February 10, 200620 yr total hawtness. looks real mean. I think you should paint it yellow, would look awesome with the rest of the car.
February 10, 200620 yr Damn that looks good. I can totally imagine your imp with a 6in lift and moster mud terrains.
February 11, 200620 yr If your going to die in a car your probably going to die in a car so go ahead and unplug them airbags = ). I would rather them not go off while im wheeling myself. could just get a better harness if you really want = ).
February 11, 200620 yr Oh yea btw, your Imp looks SICK!!!!. I love that bumper its great. Im planning on welding one soon myself. What kind of welder did you use?? All i have is a tig welder. did you use a mig?
February 11, 200620 yr douchebags might pull u over +1 to calling cops douches But seriously how much does that thing weigh?
February 11, 200620 yr FYI, removing airbags from an airbag equiped car is a federal offense. Plus, If you have an accident and they are not working or not installed, you could be liable for all the damages and then some. Its best to just leave them in... Anyway, I like that bumper Looks mean. You need to do it to the rear bumper as well.

I beleive it didn't come with it....it's just an L, used to have a 1.8l, don't think it's got ABS either.
February 11, 200620 yr I beleive it didn't come with it....it's just an L, used to have a 1.8l, don't think it's got ABS either. All Impreza's have had driver and passanger side airbags. Heck, if it wasnt as big of a deal to remove airbags I would have done it a long time ago from my L... But its just not worth it with the potential legal risks.
February 11, 200620 yr I think a steel front bumper for a set of airbags is a good trade Just think of how much safer he is now that he's not being protected by styrafoam and plastic. Lookin good Austin! -Brian
February 11, 200620 yr just remember, you're protecting your 'crumple zone'... lol.... a buddy of mine made a bammy basher, bolted it directly to the fame of his truck.... i'm very scared to drive in front of him
