May 29, 200619 yr I had a protractor but I broke it.I left it in my backpack for a bit to long.its in numerous pieces. found a long straight piece of plywood and a protractor.I got 30* appoach and 25* departure. Those are really kind of guess's as the plywood was 3/4" thick. so it was a little har to get to point where degree is.then the protracto had 1/4" of plastic before the measuring line.btw how do you remove those "bumper protectors"? they must be stealling a good 3* from each end.
May 29, 200619 yr too much work...too much.. outsideness Too much outsidedness? Are you serious?!! Does it make you shrivel up and wince with pain? I'll get a better profile pic and try to do the real measurements with a board in a couple weeks.. I've actualy been curious what the approach angle is now, thanks for starting this by the way, Andy......
May 29, 200619 yr Looks pretty good! Tip: to get a more accurate representation, you need to get the camera really far away, and then use a telephoto lense. This will make the viewing angles more accurate to reduce error. A shot from infinity (kinda hard to do!) will make the tires on each side line up perfectly, and the ground appear as a plane parallel to your camera sight. ditto...
May 29, 200619 yr you shouldn't even need a protractor... measure your height at the bumper/rad support/etc, measure the distance from the tire to the previous measurement point across the ground. you'd have two sides of a triangle and at least one angle (90 from ground plane to vertical plane. with geometry you should be able to figure out the angles. (i've been out of highschool too long to give you the formula you'd need to figure out the angles although i'm sure you could find it online)
May 29, 200619 yr gotta get into the math people. Its all about the trigenometry or however its spelled. I can do this in my head:D My english on the other hand sucks!

May 30, 200619 yr I'll have to get some pics of mine, im curious to see my my aproach angle is based on your avatar picture, i'd say between 40 and 45
May 30, 200619 yr I think mines gonna be like 10 degrees on my RX... maybe less since I'm getting coilovers and I have a front airdam:lol:
May 31, 200619 yr I think until you do the "Plywood Test" you really can't get an accurate measurement. Too many deceptive camara angles and parts that are lower in the center of the vehicle.
May 31, 200619 yr So when do we start talking about all the other fun stuff? RTI, departure, breakover, and off camber goodness? I know mines still stock but that doesent mean I cant just scrape the plastic bumper off first

May 31, 200619 yr My 2002 Forester got the following scores on a homemade 20 degree ramp, with the tires at 36psi: Stock = 397 Anti Sway Bar end links Disco'd = 458 http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/forums/showthread.php?t=2832
May 31, 200619 yr back to approach angles.the brat is right at 38 degrees.with the bumper on it right now,i am losing about 10 degrees. 4 inch lift in front with 26 inch tires. when i am done with the new bumper it will be approaching 50 deg.that is without the core support cut out.
June 1, 200619 yr Ok, you've all probably been waiting for me to show mine:rolleyes: But someone else has to do the math, I dont have CAD (or math skills, for that matter)
June 1, 200619 yr Ok, you've all probably been waiting for me to show mine:rolleyes: But someone else has to do the math, I dont have CAD (or math skills, for that matter) Look at all that room! Me thinks you need bigger tires on that hatch! Anyway, looks like about 45.6 deg. with the push-bar and 49 deg. to the bumper. Perspective is likely throwing everything off though.
June 1, 200619 yr That pusher is going to have a Warn 6000 mounted to it shortly. Cant sacrifice just a degree or 2 for that.

June 2, 200619 yr If I don't have the clearance, I just give more right foot and clear it.(or get hung up)
