'82 Brat: Solid Axle Build *** DONE! :) ***

Featured Replies

not really. been too busy with my money pit house... or working on my '72 K20, though I did pull off the old winch cable that was damaged, and replaced with synthetic...

I just drove it a bit last night and parked it in the garage so I can swap in the Legacy MC.

I guess I did rebuild the carb this summer too.

OK, Mr. McBRAT, you owe us an update on the life this beast has been living

  • I'm hoping to get back out to WA sometime for one of the shows, but it will probably be a couple years from now....

hey, a little more done...

I forgot that about 2 weeks ago, I took off the damaged winch cable and replaced with 9k lb synthetic

Tonight:

1. took off stock MC and replaced with Legacy MC.

2. cut hole and mounted e-brake handle from a '97 4-runner.

3. made 1 bracket and tapped 3 holes so far for the axle mounting of the e-brake cable. 2 other stock '85 mount points I can use, and I'll have 1 or 2 more to make, and I'll finally have an e-brake again after 3 years...

  • Author

woo hoo! e-brake is functional!

and I also made a hold-down for the boot around my t-case shifter...

and swapped adapter brackets side to side on the Cavalier seat as it was a bit too close to the door...

thing looks wicked. Solid axle subaru looks like it'd be fun to wheel.. We might start a project similar to that this winter with an EA82 body

  • Author

overall, I'm really happy with the build, but it's less fun to drive in the street :)

something about an old, beat-up, stock/slightly lifted soob thrashing around the snowy streets just can't be matched.... :)

finally got out to test drive it today with the new MC... it's awesome. feels like it would stop on a dime now! and parking brake is nice too. finally having the hole in the floor to the tcase/shifter is nice too. takes a little bit of the noise away...

I had a slight left roll... lost both turn signals, and caved the side in a little more than it already was...

and you are looking up a hill climb here.  the Brat was almost flat upside down.  The pics from above help show actual position better.

took me 4 tries to make the hill climb... and this was my reward :) all of the other climbs in this area continue to the top so you can loop around to the others..... just not this one :)

Holy Cow!

I Really Respect that Custom Built Subaru, is Wonderful; so I Hope you'll Straighten it, and maybe is time for a New Paint Job? :brow:

Kind Regards.

That had to be a fun extraction

1st winch pull was from the side to right me.

2nd set of pulls were from my front bumper to get me pointed up the hill. a couple short pulls and releases with some wheel turning to help

3rd set was hooking another winch up to pull me more away from the wall.

4th was the first winch pulling me up to a less steep area so I could pull the plugs.

after the cylinders were cleared, and plugs reinstalled, it started right up. one on my plug wires came apart and I jammed it together as best I could. after I drove back to camp I split the boot and repaired it better... and straightened out the fenders a bit...

this particular area of the park is called Crash Canyon :)

Man you should have got that on video! Im trying to figure out exactly where you were headed and how you ended up there.

Glad there were no casualties or crushed fingers!
