  1. i had the same problem with my bearings. i was turning left and i felt a clunk and then heard metal on metal from my right front. i could barely go in a straight line, the front tire was wobbling back and forth and jerking the steering wheel around. i thought it was the axle at first since the outer boot on that side was ripped completely off from the band that holds it to the stub. replaced the axle and i still had the same problem if not worse so i bought bearings and seals. couldn't get the old mangled ones out after trying for many hours. it got put back together and driven to the shop. i had to admit defeat on that one.
  2. hah! i did the same thing on my loyale when i first bought it. it didn't fit but i couldn't return the bulb at that point so i just trimmed the bulb socket a bit and it fit fine. my high beams didn't work though, and one was more bright so i wound up buying the right bulb in the end.
  3. on the island we rarely get drifting snow, only enough now and then to make the roads slick. we got a big dump in november and the hardest thing about driving a sube in it is avoiding all the other idiots in a hurry.
  4. 90 loyale has 213000 (kms) so it's still in it's youth. 88 hatch had less but can't recall since i no longer own the thing.
  5. nice! i have that shifter in my loyale. there's a gen1 brat in my neighborhood that looks like its used to haul sods of grass around or something. it isn't for sale though.
  6. my clutch was stiff because of a really burly return spring. got a factory one and all was well. when i bought the car the HH was disconnected for some reason so i never missed not having it. could the cable be lubed up too? (sorry, first manual transmission car.)
  7. taking my spokes in to get sandblasted...got em for free but they're real rusty. once that's done i think i'm not gonna paint em black. white looks better now that i think of it.
  8. yeah man, don't berate yourself. i did the same thing on dry pavement in my first car, an 87 grand am. didnt hurt myself but the car rolled onto it's side. if i hadn't hit a fence i would have went onto the roof and something else worse could have happened. drove away from it too.
  9. heh, i live in port alberni and still need to go to saltair all the time. they're expensive though. i'm on my own when i have to fix my car because there are no sube guys here. haven't had any trouble so far.
  10. yeah, my hatch had corroded terminals on the cables. it would start sometimes, but not always. other times the solenoid would click, but there wasn't enough juice to crank the starter. i replaced the cables and battery and it was fine after that.
  11. saltair is the same. a fender and a bumper already off the car cost me 200 big ones. no where else to go and they have an ea82 d/r with my name on it, pretty much.
  12. good job. you accomplished what i once wanted to do but couldnt obtain the parts for, so i bought a loyale instead.
  13. i was in a similar situation when i owned an 87 pontiac grand am. my shoes were wet and i was braking for a light and my foot slipped off the pedal just enough to bump the late model sunfire in front of me. i put a nice 2" wide by 3" long scratch on their rear bumper. 200 bucks later and the thing is repainted, but months down the road the lady (not in good health to begin with), complains of neck and shoulder pain, apparently from the accident. i had to take the car to the claims center for an inspection to see how bad the accident was (pushed the bumper's shock absorber in about 1/2" and bent my license plate a bit.) anyways, i chose to dispute the claim at a hearing as my insurance discount was at 30 percent. didn't hire a lawyer and figured that i could tell them what happened and i would leave there without hefty fines but nope. got a 40 pecent surcharge on my insurance premiums. and that's why there's always a disposible camera in my glovebox.
  14. my friend also had an eagle and said pretty much the same thing til the doors fell off and rear diff grenaded while in a school zone. i hear ya about surprising people with the sube. we recently had a good dump of snow (a foot - big dump for southern bc) and i was fine on the unplowed roads. i surprised myself with it.
  15. that's cool. wish my loyale was an rs. a black rx wagon would be sweet.
  16. my hatch had similar symptoms a while back but it turned out to be the modulator on the auto trans. every time i started up there would be a cloud of bluish white smoke that was real thick and smelt vile. new modulator from subaru and it's been fine ever since.
  17. my loyale which akin to your 87 never came with an intermittent setting. it's either off, slow, or less slow. as for exhaust, you're almost good with just deleting the cats unless its unlawful in your region to do so. i'm not sure how much of an advantage a wider pipe would be though.
  18. a loyale toad is a damn good idea. my grandparents had an 88 gl10 sedan they used as a toad. a hatch would be neat to see i think.
  19. good score! there are pretty much no rust free gen2's near me or else i would have a couple. i want my hatch back but not 2wd auto.
  20. i hit a lamp post in my hatch going about 30 km/h and bent the same rod. just grabbed a junkyard one. the bolts were damn hard to get off though.
  21. i've slid through a few stop signs snow driving, and did a 180 into a ditch and somehow rolled onto the drivers side door. pushed it over and drove it home. that was in an 87 grand am though. i had sticks somehow make their way past the bead of the rim and tire and stuck between them somehow (in my pic) and i bent a tie rod a bit too. can't say i've had any trouble in either of my subes in the winter though. i need snow tires for my loyale, i picked up some wagon rims for it last week. no snow here yet, only crazy storms.
  22. 7k rpm still shouldnt really hurt your engine though.
