Think the ground wire to radio chassis is part of the issue. That will do nothing for a aftermarket, as the ground is in the wire out the back, and black. Putting the stock ground chassis wire to the new chassis is not what the new radio is looking for stock radio is different setup. also, in my experience, the aftermarket radios cannot accept "dimmer" input from a Japanese make car. They can only accept "illumination" so you need to cut out the dimmer wire and not even hook it to the aftecrap/market radio. The "dimmer wire" on the aftemarket radio would work with a USA made car, but no Japanese car i know of. Not Honda, not nissan, not toy, not subaru.

Has anyone taken their BRAT to the dealer for service work recently, say brake work or a coolant check.. Just a thought to ponder, and I wonder what the dealer says.

best and cheapest to replace the trans with one from a junkyard. Should have a 30 day warranty from most yards so if that speedo unit is bad in it too, keep trying til you get a good one. Make sure you keep the ratio right for the rear diff. Or you can buy the parts for about 45 bucks and split the case yourself and be done. the drive gear is is about 30 and the driven gear about 10, well those are prices for the automatics, but the manual is bound to be somewhat same for price.

What was wrong with keeping the factory radio and have working lights?

they still have the loyale at Car Country junkyard in newton, where they let you go get your own parts off and sell for next to nothing. Or you can wait till one shows up at wrench n go.

The time of year is now, when everyone complains of getting worse mpg, gas mileage, petrol useage, etc. Nobody seems to figure in the time the engine is running,m warming up, defrosting the windows while the ODO is not moving. Car is running, so it is using gas. But the MPG seems down, but it is not really down as much as you think. Also, winter blend gas....bad. ethanol bad. long live the Subaru winter warriors. just remember this post before searching or posting about bad mpg in the winter. Any car idling to defrost the windows, is getting ZERO MPG, yes 0 mpg.....so of course you must think.

aw, come on. You could clean it up, find out what it is. etc. You should call the guy at Subaru Heaven, he has the stuff you need. I can get you his number if you pm me a request for it. Before he sent the last batch of 800 Subaru cars off to the scrapper, he filled the 8 huge buildings with parts from those cars.

without pics cannot say 100% but it is most likely the breather lines for the trans, they vent to air.

82 has running with 85 for best 82: cyclops light only that year, better trans ratio, and plaid seats

any car, older than 1991, with even a slight dent is going to get totalled. You know the reason? Because, body shops simply cannot order new parts, fenders, doors, bumpers for them anymore, and insurance companies mostly do not allow use of used old parts, they require new parts. So if new cannot be bought, then yeah they total it out. I will bet anybody who has a BRAT claim, will get it totalled for even a tailight broken a=or a dented front bumper.
