  1. I did some research on here and found that if a water pump shaft is loose, then it is usually a sign that it is going bad. I flushed the crap out of cooling two weeks ago and things have been fine. Driving around town yesterday I noticed that my temp gauge was just a tad high and my heat temperature was feeling low coming out of the vents. Today, I took it up the road today and got things up to operating temperatures and came back home. Popped the hood and felt the front of the rounded part of the water pump and I could feel play in it, not much, but could tell. Is it time to replace?
  2. Nipper is right. Subaru alternators are easy to change and can be done with just a regular ratchet set. That many miles, it should be about time for it to go anyway.
  3. Gary, off the top of your head, what is the current going rate for Subaru axles?
  4. Don't feel bad. I've made the mistake twice now. Brat's axle knocks under acceleration. Legacy's clicks when turned all the way. I am going with MWE here in a few days when I can work more when school gets out.
  5. You did good. I would have jumped on that thing real quick. I have always wanted a black/white XT6, good luck getting it back up to spec.
  6. I would have probably have kept the Legacy, that is my backup car for when the Brat takes every other month off. I hope you didn't sell a '95 for $600. The clock issue has been addressed several times with the EA82's. Northwet use to offer a repair service but I am not sure if it is still done or not. Regardless, here is the link to that: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=26603 I must applaud you for keeping another EA series Subaru on the road.
  7. Jess' car is looking like time has came for a new axle. Stock axles and 110K, not too bad. Car is an Accord with the K-series 4 Cylinder. I am going to go with a honda axle since I have had nothing but bad luck with parts store ones for my Subarus. Is there anything special about doing these that might be different from say an EJ series Subaru? Will the thing have to be pressed into the hub? Thanks, Kyle
  8. Miles, I seen that picture on your facebook page and was waiting on you to post it. I've seen a few of the things you have done before and I bet that worked without a hitch.
  9. How about draining the oil down into the nominal level on the dipstick and give yourself peace of mind?
  10. Good point. I borrowed a friends laser temperature checker. Great tool.
  11. Imagine being the guy that accidentally put the turbo decals on a naturally aspirated Brat. Whoops! Thats a great project though man, wish I had that kind of place to work on all of my Subes.
  12. Those tail lights look different than the ones on my 83. Did the EA81T's get a different style of tail light? So did you change out the Turbo gauge cluster in favor of the N/A one? Also that looks to be some pretty low oil pressure. I like it.
  13. The bright side is that summer is just around the corner and it will make a great ride.
  14. Nothing says custom like Krylon. I too thought the tires looked to be on backwards.
  15. Alternator is the key. Loosen the right hand bolt on the main support and you might also have to loosen the one on the left just a tad, it should drop right down.
  16. GD, way to play the devil's advocate with that last spill. I thought about this the other day when I drove to town in the Brat. Where did they all go? Oldest thing I see from Honda is the 4th gen of Accord. Take today for instance, I seen an 84 GL Coupe getting off the interstate that was in great shape (will send you a pic to your camera phone). My fiance drives an 04 Accord with the K series motor in it. Great motor being that it utilizes the timing chain design and gets great gas mileage. Time came the other day to change the air filter and the guy working design that day made things difficult. What happened to just a few pop clams to remove a filter cover? Gotta get an extension and socket to get the thing off and after that, there is no room to meander it out of the air box, I had to loosen the fuse box! Jordan, change the timing belt and water pump and keep that thing on the road. Hope you have more luck than I do with used cars. Everything I buy needs an axle and wheel bearings replaced.
  17. Rob, I think I just vomited a little in my mouth. I can't get over the seats NOT being touched by paint.
  18. I only ran it like that for about 5 minutes is why I was asking. It sounded cool but that was it. Thanks GD.
  19. I have a Weber and when 86BRATMAN was down the other day, he showed me that if you remove this thing, you get a sweet boxer rumble out of it. Since you are on the subject of extra Hitachi junk, what is the harm in running with out this thing, only effect I noticed was a sweet sound.
  20. I sat in the 09 last time I was at the dealership and loved it. I am glad to see that you bought actual wheels and not the hubcaps that was on the white one I seen. I wish they would have went with a different style of tail lights though, I am about tired of the altezza look. They have a ton of room cabin wise and cargo wise. If you got the 5MT, you need to check out the black shifter knob they offer, its pretty sweet.
  21. I looked at it the other night and thought the same Jordan. You can't go wrong with an Impreza. Plus side is that it is easier to find parts for. I talked myself out of one at the Harriman dealership a few days ago,'99 2 door Impreza L 5 Speed, $4200, gonna hold out for a 2.5RS. I say go for it, and swing through and show it to me when you go and get it. I would be skeptical about the two different tires on it though.
