Father's wrecked 1992 Subaru Loyale
Durania replied to suba258k's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The bright side is that summer is just around the corner and it will make a great ride. -
Should I go for this? UPDATE: I went for it!!!

GD, way to play the devil's advocate with that last spill. I thought about this the other day when I drove to town in the Brat. Where did they all go? Oldest thing I see from Honda is the 4th gen of Accord. Take today for instance, I seen an 84 GL Coupe getting off the interstate that was in great shape (will send you a pic to your camera phone). My fiance drives an 04 Accord with the K series motor in it. Great motor being that it utilizes the timing chain design and gets great gas mileage. Time came the other day to change the air filter and the guy working design that day made things difficult. What happened to just a few pop clams to remove a filter cover? Gotta get an extension and socket to get the thing off and after that, there is no room to meander it out of the air box, I had to loosen the fuse box! Jordan, change the timing belt and water pump and keep that thing on the road. Hope you have more luck than I do with used cars. Everything I buy needs an axle and wheel bearings replaced. -
I sat in the 09 last time I was at the dealership and loved it. I am glad to see that you bought actual wheels and not the hubcaps that was on the white one I seen. I wish they would have went with a different style of tail lights though, I am about tired of the altezza look. They have a ton of room cabin wise and cargo wise. If you got the 5MT, you need to check out the black shifter knob they offer, its pretty sweet.

I looked at it the other night and thought the same Jordan. You can't go wrong with an Impreza. Plus side is that it is easier to find parts for. I talked myself out of one at the Harriman dealership a few days ago,'99 2 door Impreza L 5 Speed, $4200, gonna hold out for a 2.5RS. I say go for it, and swing through and show it to me when you go and get it. I would be skeptical about the two different tires on it though. -
heater core in - no start!

I just flushed my heater core as well. Got good heat and currently having 60 degree mornings. I had to flush mine has the Brat was running a little warm. -
Uh-oh: Using coolant, fouling plug.

I have a weber carb on my EA81 and always thought about doing the SPFI mod to it. I don't have any trouble with cold start ups with mine though, guess just how I got it setup. Jordan, that sucks with your luck with the EA82. Might want to look at your intake manifold gaskets just incase. You can't go wrong with an EA81 though. -
Replace your alternator first.

...and consider buying a backup vehicle. I drive my 83 BRAT everyday but when something breaks, thats why I have a 91 Legacy. Looks like he drives an EA82.
-
I know that it has been addressed before. Whats involved with changing over to the analog? I always find it funny when these things break. Its a 25 year old car, you would've thought this kind of stuff would have broke sooner.

If obtaining parts is an issue, you can always throw up a wanted ad in the wanted thread. I am willing to bet some people will not have a problem doing international shipping.

If doing belt buckels, I would just like one with a big Subaru symbol (New Gen).

By drive shaft I am having to assume you mean the CV axle. What comes to my mind with "drive shaft" is the shaft that runs from the back of the tranny to the differential. As for axles, MWE and Subaru axles are the ones to go with. I have made the mistake twice of using a parts store axle. For example, my Brat's left side axle knocks under acceleration and my Legacy with an axle installed in January, clicks when turned all the way toward the left. Just go to the dealership and save yourself the time, money, and trouble.

Shawn, I would like to see these pictures of these stickers. I have never heard of those before. -
I seen this at my local Subaru dealer back in the summer. I still get weak in the knees when thinking about it. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=78576
